FADE IN FROM BLACK

EXT. OFFICE BUILDING FRONT - DAY

A charismatic beautiful black vendor in her late fifties,
wearing overalls and long colorful dreadlocks. Preparing
several hotdog sandwiches for customers from an angel figures
decorated cart. Parked in front of one of New York's
financial square buildings. Hollering.

SOUL QUEEN
Soul food, soul food -- food for
the soul, food for the soul --
C'mon Yao...

A Crow CAWING gets her attention after it lands on the
building's front ledge. She looks nervously around. Spots...

ZANE, a handsome man, looks several years younger than his
late thirties. Unshaven, and appears as if he has not been to
sleep for a month. Tries to straighten up his wrinkled dirty
suit, tie and a picture pass badge clipped to his jacket,
approaches the building.

SOUL QUEEN
Oh...my...God...

Zane, passes Soul Queen on his confused way into the
building. Stares her down in an angry stern look. Continues
walking away toward the building.

Tries to get to him, but she is held back by a bunch of
hungry customers and pedestrians.

SOUL QUEEN
No, no, no -- youÂ’ve got it wrong
baby -- no, no, no -- youÂ’ve got it
wrong Zane...it aint like that...it
aint like that at all...

CUSTOMER
Hey -- my change? Where is my
change?

Soul Queen, with an involuntary movement, throws back of all
the money from her apron pockets. The customers start to push
one another for the money. AD LIB.

Zane, in a delusional world of his own, disappears into the
high-rise well secured building's lobby.

Soul Queen, still trying to get to him, but she is held back
by customers.

CUSTOMER
Hey -- my change...I didn't get my
change -- Where is my change?

Shouts at Zane.

SOUL QUEEN
ItÂ’s a circle.

INT. LOBBY - LATER

Running toward the elevator as it's closing, with Zane inside
of it, shouting.

SOUL QUEEN
Zane, Zane -- no, baby...no...

Two security guards block her path and hold her back.

SECURITY GUARD
Wow, wow, wow -- where do you think
you're going?

SECURITY GUARD 2
C'mon...C'mon -- lets go...

Resisting them as she shouts.

SOUL QUEEN
YouÂ’ve got it wrong baby -- Zane,
Zane -- listen to me...

The two guards drag her out of the huge lobby.

SECURITY GUARD 2
C'mon, c'mon -- let's get outta
here -- C'mon...

SOUL QUEEN
ItÂ’s a circle Zane.

Guards pushes her away.

SOUL QUEEN
ItÂ’s a circle...

Guards pushes her away farther.

SOUL QUEEN
ItÂ’s just a circle honey.

Zane, gives her a stern look across the lobby. The elevator
door closes.

The two guards throw her outside of the building. Whispers.

SOUL QUEEN
ItÂ’s just a circle...

Lullabies.

SOUL QUEEN
O Lord, trouble so hard.
My trouble so hard.
DonÂ’t nobody know my troubles but
God...

INT. ELEVATOR

Zane, standing along with other employees who moved away from
him due to terrible hygiene, as we hear a distant baby's CRY.
The elevator stops on the seventh floor and Zane gets out, to
the relief of the employees.

Speaking gibberish in rhymes with mild southern accent.

ZANE
You're gonna pay -- bitch you're
gonna pay -- what's wrong with you?
What? Stay...

Abruptly stops.

ZANE
What? What? Hey, I don't wanna hear
it...no way...

With involuntary spasmodic movements and unexpected jerky
shakes, talking to himself.

ZANE
What? What? You'll see what I'm
gonna do bitch -- Get away from me -
- Stay...

Throws his hands in the air as he rushes away.

ZANE
I don't wanna hear it -- I don't
wanna to hear it Eva.

INT. ZANE'S OFFICE HALLWAY

SOUL QUEEN, scared. (Younger replica of Soul Queen the
vendor). The only difference is that this woman is wearing
shoulder length black hair, designer eyeglasses and she
dressed professionally in a beige suit. Rushing along with...

KATE, a beautiful young woman in her late twenties. Her
heart's goodness can easily be traced on her sweet terrified
face. Dressed professionally. Rushes bypassing Soul Queen and
other employees. Squeezes between employees gathered in front
of the overcrowded office entrance.

EXT. CITY STREET

A group of pedestrians gather around, pointing up the highrise
building. AD LIB.

EXT/INT. ZANE'S OFFICE BALCONY

Zane, wearing a tie without shirt, standing on the rail of
the seventh floor balcony, trying to maintain his balance by
swinging a baseball bat.

The crowd below murmurs in trepidation.

EXT/INT. ZANE'S OFFICE BALCONY

Still swinging the baseball bat.

ZANE
Get back, step back...step back...

Reaching for Zane.

KATE
Zane, Zane -- honey -- what are you
doing? Get down here baby...

Swings the baseball bat.

ZANE
Get back -- get back...

Steps back.

KATE
It's me -- it's me honey -- Kate.

Straightens up his tie. Smiles.

ZANE
Hi, Kate...

EXT. CITY STREET - LATER

Fire engines arrive, followed by an ambulance, police sirens
are HEARD wailing from a distance, groups of pedestrians
gather around, looking up the high building, gesturing
upwards AD LIB.

Crew-cut petite black woman (Another replica of Soul Queen).
But this one is in her early thirties, dressed in an
emergency tech uniform. Jumps out of the ambulance. Looks up
following the sight-line of the gathering, freezes.

SOUL QUEEN
Oh...my...God.

Now the buzz of the crowd heightens to a fever pitch.

EXT. ZANE'S OFFICE BALCONY

Zane, waves his baseball bat around.

Soul Queen, the secretary stares at him.

ZANE
Quantum mechanics...

KATE
Quantum what?

ZANE
Mechanics -- Quantum mechanics
honey -- It's like -- it's like
looking at things from a different
perspective, you know -- it's like
looking through a glass -- like --
I'm sick -- I'm sick baby...

Hesitates.

KATE
I know -- I know honey, lets go to
Doctor Fred... Come on...

ZANE
See. You'll never understand...

KATE
I love you baby...

Rushes to his desk. Knocks over a golden picture frame with
the picture of the department store model still in it.

SOUL QUEEN
Let me get your medicine sir, it'll
make you feel better -- are you
taking your medicine?

Opens the drawer and tens of full prescription bottles fall
out.

SOUL QUEEN
Huh.

ZANE
You don't understand Kate -- you
don't understand -- it doesn't work
-- medicine...doesn't work.

Points up.

ZANE
They don't want it to work...

EXT. CITY STREET

The crowd is tense as firefighters spread a huge balloon.

EXT/INT. ZANE'S OFFICE BALCONY

ZANE
The pharmaceutical lobbyists honey
-- the Government -- they don't
want it to work...

KATE
We'll find a way baby...

SURREAL

Eva, a woman in her late twenties, the same woman in the
department store picture frame which sits on Zane's desk that

Soul Queen knocked out, dressed in a Catholic high school
skirt, shirt outfit and a boot, stretches her gum out and
returns it back to her mouth.

EVA
boo Yaa -- Hi, honey.

Stops tapping the baseball bat on his leg. Becomes very
tense.

imitates Kate.

ZANE
Eva?

Unshaven thug in his mid twenties, dressed in leather jacket,
with two earrings in both ears, sneaks in between the group
to the balcony, faces Zane, removes his dark sunglasses to
exposes a weird tattoo covering the left side of his face.

GUY
Hi mate.

Swings the bat around.

ZANE
Guy. Get away from me -- get away
from me...

EVA
Kill him, kill him Guy -- kill the
*beep* hillbilly...

Swings the baseball bat. Hits Guy.

ZANE
Get away from me...

KATE
Who's he talking to?

SOUL QUEEN
Them.

KATE
Them who?

SOUL QUEEN
These two idiots.

Pays attention to the conversation.

GUY
Who are you calling an idiot?

SOUL QUEEN
You.

Guy, angrily charges at her.

Tries to get his attention, fearing Soul Queen's anger, makes
a slicing motion with her finger across her own neck.

EVA
No, Guy no...

GUY
I don't give a *beep* -- who the *beep*
does she think she is -- I can
finish her right now.

Kicks him in the groin.

SOUL QUEEN
Is that true?

Guy, bends down in pain.

Kicks him again with her knee, in the forehead.

SOUL QUEEN
Huh?

Guy, retreats with a bloody forehead.
Charges at him and grabs his crotch. Squeezes hard.

SOUL QUEEN
Apologize.

Guy, unable to breathe due the severity of pain. Stutters.

Squeezes harder. Angry tone.

SOUL QUEEN
Ahuh.

Guy, finally releases himself. Retreats back into Eva's arms.

Wipes the floor with him like an old rug, beats him from one
end of the office to the other.

SOUL QUEEN
You're going to apologize.

Eyes Eva.

SOUL QUEEN
Both of you. Trust me.

Guy, defeated. Wipes the blood off his face and mouth, as he
lies in Eva's lap, gets up and both charge at her.

Starts to beat the Be-Jesus out of the both of them, by using
office furniture.

SOUL QUEEN
IÂ’m waiting.

Subdues them.

SOUL QUEEN
I didnÂ’t hear you.

Zane, standing on the edge, watching with unbelieving eyes.

All, watching the one sided war of Soul Queen as she destroys
furniture and flower vases.

Grabs GuyÂ’s crotch and EvaÂ’s left breast, squeezes
accordingly.

SOUL QUEEN
Apologize.

Breathless.
GUY
I'm sorry...I'm sorry. I said I'm
sorry, damn it.

Soul Queen, stares at Eva.

In extreme pain.

EVA
I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

Shrugs her shoulders and walks away, looks up at Zane with
disgust. Angry.

SOUL QUEEN
ItÂ’s just a circle.

GUY (O.C.)
Unfortunately, yes.

Soul Queen, turns back and comes face to face with Guy.

With his bloody nose almost touching hers.

GUY
It is. But fortunately - for us
that is - he's the one who's
supposed to understand that.

Walks toward Zane and winks at Eva.

Eva, seated with the ledge between her legs, stretches her
gum and places it back in her mouth.

GUY
That idiot up there.

Walks back to her and sticks out his nose to touch hers.

GUY
Not you. Him -- capeesh?

Soul Queen, murmurs after she glances at Zane.

Zane, frightened.

Shouts.

GUY
I didn't hear you.

SOUL QUEEN
Capeesh.

Walks away amidst the shocked crowd.

GUY
Now get the *beep* out of my sight. I
have an idiot to kill mate.

Soul Queen, leaves.

Zane, frightened.

Guy, long curly black hair flying in the breeze, as he walks
comfortably on the iron pole edge of the seventh floor
balcony, toward Zane. As Eva on the other part of the rail,
approaching, stretches her gum out and placeÂ’s it back in her
mouth.

Zane, horrified.

EMPLOYEE (O.S.)
The police are here.

Swings his pointy cowboy boot, as soon as he utters.

GUY
Time to get the *beep* out of my
boat...

Kicks him in the groin.

Zane, flies in the air.

GUY
Mate.

The people on the street as well as the employees sigh.

Zane, falls but holds on to EvaÂ’s boot.

Eva, sighs. Horrified.

Hanging to EvaÂ’s boot.

ZANE
Kate.

Guy, tries to grab EvaÂ’s hand. Misses.

Soul Queen and Kate, join Guy at the balcony. Scream.

GUY/SOUL QUEEN/KATE
No!
