The Walking Dead : How big is too big of an age gap?

How big is too big of an age gap?

My older sister is 37 and her and my high school theater teacher have been flirting and talking for months -online and on the phone and have discussed meeting one another (they live in separate states and met on my fb).

I'm not sure how old he is but I'd guess early sixties. Still attractive (if you're into artsy theater teachers) and cool -i mean that he isn't just golfing. They have a lot of common interests.

I think it's fine. I told him I'm counting on him to get her to move back here. But i was discussing it in a group chat with 5 women who are 28-33 and 3 were for it, two were very adamantly against it.

What do you think? Would you date someone 25 years older than you? Or would have when you were younger?

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

If she doesn't mind wrinkly balls, go for it. But, early 60s? I'm 45, I don't think I could date a woman any older than 50. And not younger than 35-40.

Is your sister attractive? I know it's a crude question, but if she is, she should be a bit more picky. It's an ugly question, I know. But, let's just get that out in the open.

Also, is this guy wealthy? If so, tell her to go for it.

Also, never rely on me for relationship advice. Which, I'm sure you don't and or wouldn't.

But still, he better have some deep pockets.

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

that's fair

I think she's attractive. I'm trying not to be biased lol.she's not fat, has good skin/teeth. 37 with no kids and no ex husband because, until about 3 years ago, she had only dated women. So i think that having less baggage puts her ahead of most women her age [shrug] but she has weird taste so she might prefer the wrinkly balls to someone else she could get

He's not wealthy, retired teacher but i think he owns a ranch or something, he's always posting pictures of horses and crap. So he can't be too bad off

I value your opinion always!

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

She sounds… HOT! I wanna meet her!

Sounds good. I've said my part. Tell her to proceed. But with caution, you know that age thingy… wrinkly balls..

My ideal relationship, as you know:

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

I'm going to tell her she's has your blessing. Thanks, my man!

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

because, until about 33 years ago, she had only dated women.
Don't you mean 3 years ago? It's kind of hard to already have a dating history at age 4.

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

I'm lucky no one reported me -saying I'm talking about lesbian toddlers!

Definitely 3 years ago lol

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

i think it's fine. ur sister is a grown up adult and even tho i don't know her, i don't think that she'd be super impressionable anymore? i do believe that the world of a 60 year old "artsy theatre teacher" (as u call him lol) is probably rather fascinating getting to know for a young woman and they obviously found some common interests and share certain point of views, so yeah, it's cool and not weird at all, i think.

my sister is 29 and is dating a 48 years old for now 3 and a half years. before that, she dated someone 17 years older than herself for almost 7 years. when they (she and her ex) started dating, the age gap was an issue, not gonna lie, when she was barely 19 and he was 35ish, but my sister has always been tough and everything but gullible or even naive whereas her boyfriend had the Peter-Pan-syndrome, as he himself said so, and they rather met in the middle. both learned a lot from each other during those years (7, as i've said). i was actually living with both of them for a while and we shared an apartment during my first years in Berlin, and i never felt that my sister and him had a weird power balance or sth, it was like both met at eye-level and they really loved each other for the time being. my sister ended that relationship tho bc she felt like her ex would curb their relationship and in the end her development and they didn't make much progress as a couple. and her being still so young she had to leave him… and well met her current partner who lives in another city, and after all, she left Berlin to live with him now. and tbh, her current bf ain't much different from her ex, personality-wise although he's a lot more active whereas her ex was super passive.

anyway, i'm just saying, older guys are often just older on paper, but on the same maturity level and as we all know, feelings never grow old, the feelings of a 60 year old are as immediate and vital and relevant as the feelings of a 37 year old or a 25 year old…

when i was younger i actually made out with a couple of guys that were 20 years older than me, just to test the waters and to see if it'd be my thing, and while it was really exciting to like, um, kiss my dad's best friend that one night (i was 20 i think), it also felt weird and not right, and i actually find men that are 20 years older kind of boring and really not my wavelength. the guys i seriously dated and have been in a relationship with have just been 2-4 years older than i am bc i still need someone who is into the same shit that i am and understands where i'm coming from.

but yeah, tl;dr your sis and her older fling is super fine imo.

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

I agree! 37 is old enough not to be easily manipulated. I think if she were 20 i would think more of it.

That's interesting about your sister. Had she always liked older guys. It's funny that they act less mature -not because i expect older people to be more mature, it depends on the individual, but because you'd think she would like older men for their maturity. That's usually what i hear when younger women say they like older men. I think it's fine too as long as their isn't a weird power imbalance, like you said

I completely agree about age not guaranteeing maturity. You can read stone of the fights around here to see how immature some older people are lol

I met my husband when i was 18 so i'm very dull lol. I had a high school bf and i felt like a rebel because he was two grades above me. And then i dated a guy when i was 17 and he was 28. But there was a big power imbalance because he had finished college, had a job, apartment, car -i don't think i even had a cellphone all the time (my dad made me pay for it lol). He wanted me to move in with him -it caused so much tension between me and my dad. I remember, after living together a short time, having a little panic attack because i was totally dependent on him. But i ultimately dumped him because he let my cat escape -which sounds very childish but i was lol

I would never tl;dr you, penguin!!!

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

oh yeah, my sis definitely is into older guys overall, but only bc she herself is soooo picky with guys. she always tells me that the guys younger than 40ish bore her to tears lol while she has buddies her age and all, she really only is able to fall in love with older men. ALTHO and that's my observation, the guys she ended up having a serious relationship have always been on her level and her wavelength. she's in the punk rock scene and into drugs and rock'n'roll, u know ;) and so are her exes and her current bf as well. her ex i've mentioned above was in several punk rock bands, her current bf is in a band and into the same lifestyle as she has always been, despite the age gap. the age gap simply doesn't matter anymore. would my sister be happy with a partner that was into all the same shiz yet was her age tho? nope, i don't think so.

i think she just likes men that stayed young at heart, yet have a lot of life experience to tell from bc she herself has lot of life experience, good and bad, despite her younger age and needs that exchange and also the reassurance of someone who understands, like truly understands her, whereas some guy with less years and experience in his baggage would just bore her, but that's just her, u know. i'm different, as i've said.

u are not dull tho, Bee!!! i love u for ur liveliness and wit and depth, girl!! u met the love of ur life, the one and only to be with and have a family with. u are living every girl's dream (mine too, minus the family -as of now). that's so so so wonderful and sth u can be really happy about. u shouldn't be "ashamed" of it ever. and u have made enough experience with dating the wrong guy and failed relationships beforehand.

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

Older punk rock men? Ohhhh ok. I get that. Old guys with tattoos hmmm… I get it lol. Mr bee has a lot of tattoos so hopefully he'll be foxy.

And older punks have been on the scene a lot longer, which makes them seen more legit. They're not going to sell out and go work for their dad.

i think she just likes men that stayed young at heart, yet have a lot of life experience to tell from bc she herself has lot of life experience, good and bad, despite her younger age and needs that exchange and also the reassurance of someone who understands, like truly understands her, whereas some guy with less years and experience in his baggage would just bore her, but that's just her, u know. i'm different, as i've said.

I think that's great, the young at heart part especially. It's just sweet. Like you said, feelings don't age, but i think some older people get bitter and hardened so it's cool she likes immature older men. And she knows what she wants.

I have thought that dating an older guy might be fun because it would make you feel younger and they might treat you better -like an ugly guy, because he knows he can't do better. I think I'm describing power imbalances lol

Awwww thank you, sophie! You make it sound really nice lol. I'm lucky, he's a good guy. But i swear, being stuck inside with my…"great family"… I can't take much more of this pandemic I love how smitten you are with your bf. It sounds like you have diverging very special too. And don't let anyone make you feel like you have to have kids!

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

exactly! that's a good point about older punks not being sell-outs and jumping on some bandwagon. i'm not that much into the punk rock scene myself (while i don't mind tattoos on others, my sister has her arms and her entire cleavage area tattooed, i'd never want to get tats on myself lol), so i wouldnt know, but my sister tells me that the younger punks just seem less legit and are mostly just fashion punks without getting the "real" spirit of it. the older punks have been around since at least the 1990's, the peak of punk rock in Berlin/Germany. punk rock died after that era, but the older punks are keeping it alive by still living it for all those years. and she loves punk so much herself, she really worships those times long gone she actually never really experienced herself lol…

lol and yeah that's what power imbalance kind of is, but ur sis and my sis aren't subjected to it, i think. older guys usually just have absorbed "good" manners more than younger guys bc older guys usually kind of already know what they want and are more into steady relationships that they want to last until the end, so they're generally nicer to their partner, whereas younger guys are much more erratic. i'd say?

anyway, i can only imagine how hard it is for a mother of three during this pandemic and lockdowns and quarantines when the schools are closed. u can still blame ur current president for it not handling the crisis very well, but it doesn't help ur situation right now. it must be so tough…

kind of one reason why i don't want to raise a family myself: i'm too selfish (probably) and too much in love with my freedom as an individual. being a mother is what society wants me to become, i get it, "to preserve the human species", but that's not my plan of life and my partner is on the same page with me (he is actually going to have a vasectomy after the pandemic is over). i love him to death, yes, and i'd even consider marrying him, just for the romantic side of marriage, but having kids with him is not what our love is about, not quite. my own family doesn't like my opinion on all of this at all. my mother used to be really angry at me (she probably still is, but i cut her out of my life, so i wouldnt know) for not wanting to have kids. she always told me that i'm going to regret it not becoming a mother once i'm gonna be past fertility, but i highly doubt that. of course, i'm not gonna eliminate the thought of it forever and maybe i'm going to feel different in 5-10 years and motherly feelings are awakening suddenly, but that's sth i cannot influence right now or say for certain as of now. as of now, i'm dead sure i don't want kids and don't want to raise a family, and with my mother as a bad example who really ruined my idea of a family life, i'm not the one to blame either.

yeah, well that's that. lol my sis doesn't want kids either btw.

i'm smitten with my bf but that's also bc i miss him most of the time. lol we still have to stand the test of actually living together. so wish me, us, luck!

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

Boy! You sure have lots to say!

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

i'm in a chatty mood and this topic sure is very interesting.

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

I totally get being nostalgic for a time you weren't there for. I feel that way about a few things. I was really into punk as a teenager but sold out lol. I mean, i feel like I still am in spirit, you know. Questioning authority, not being a follower, and all the political fundamentals (nazi punks fuck off thank you very much). And listen to the music -my old favs. But i don't sport safety pins anymore. I look like a karen lol -if you can't see my tattoos, i guess

I think you're totally right. It's more about them already knowing who they are.

It doesn't help but i still like to blame trump lol. So it helps a little. Thanks, it is shitty. I hate complaining because we're not sick or out of work and we haven't lost anyone close to us. So i know it could be so much worse

I respect you so much for realizing you want your freedom. There's nothing wrong with being selfish. So many people have kids for the wrong reasons and don't think about that stuff. I'm sorry your mom acted like that and i think it was brave of you to take the step to cut her out (especially from other things you've said about her). So many people say blood is blood and you have to stick it out for family but that's not true. Cut toxic people out. And like you said, you can always have kids later. You're still a baby yourself

My first was a surprise, or else i would have started having kids around now, i think. But, instead of a baby i'm about to have a teenager lol. I am happy with how it all worked out but i definitely tell my girls to be selfish

I do root for you guys and wish you luck! You're always so cute when you talk about him it's really nice to see

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

lmao shut up, cute bug, u look like a hot grown up art girl and i have only seen one tattoo. from the pics i've seen, i seriously love ur style, all dark and expressive. i think i've told u that ur look reminded me a lot of my sister's look except of that she has much more colours in her hair

thanks. yeah, well, i get the same sentiments from people my age, and i have of course friends and acquaintances in my age who have already a family, but i have a lot of friends who either feel not ready to have kids just yet or just don't think about it as of now bc they're still in apprenticeship, in uni and/or are in shaky job situations, but that's Berlin and i'm living among like-minded people. it's surely different in other parts of Germany and almost all of my cousins for instance have kids by now and they live in the south of Germany which is more conservative generally. hence, my family being generally opposed to my life plans, but whatever. i don't care what they think of me, it's not their concern, but only mine. and yes, ever since i cut out my mother (i last spoke to her last christmas), i feel much more being myself and not like a remote controlled android person anymore.

yeah, u did the right thing after all, and i'm happy for u that it worked out so well! there's the advantage of having kids at a very young age: u will be still young when they're out of the house and living their own (selfish) lives! and u will have lots of time left for urself.

I do root for you guys and wish you luck! You're always so cute when you talk about him it's really nice to see

and thanks. 😊

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

You're so sweet to me, sophie. And i feel extra complimented because i love your style too. I used to dye my hair so much! But it was always getting destroyed. Now that I've grown it out I'm too scared to dye it lol. Do you dye your hair? I remember it being dark, a pretty contrast to your fair skin.

It's cool that you're with like minded people now, for the most part. That's it, you know, you've got to choose your family and you're lucky if that ends up being people you're related to but if not, oh well. I'm glad you and your sister have each other too.

That's true! I need to save a lot of money so i can travel the world when they move out lol. If the youngest moves out at 18 I'll be 45. It feels so far awayyyyy. Lol they're so good but i like complaining, sorry

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

hahaha oh i feel u so much being too scared to do sth different with ur hair. i'm such a chickenshit when it comes to mine myself. i have natural dark hair and i really only lighten my hair in spring and then let it grow out during summer, so i would have my natural colour during winter. i've never had short hair even tho i think about cutting it real short all the time but i'm too scared to actually let it cut short. i love my hair and would want to do so much different things with it, but i always end up not doing anything drastically and having it the same length and basically the same shade forever. oh well.

complaining is fun and venting is essential.

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

Oh i love that! Like an ombre style? I think those look so pretty. You have such a classically pretty face, i bet you would really rock a short, colorful, crazy haircut. But personally i like that you look all soft and sweet, no tattoos and long hair, no one would guess what a little devil you are

I've had short hair a few times (mostly from dying it way too much and deciding to just chop off the fried locks lol) but I'm trying to let it grow out. I think it's the longest I've ever had it

Thanks for always giving me a safe space to vent. Today is one of the first breaks I've had away from the fam in weeks (and of course i spend it on here instead of cleaning/doing something productive lol) cause mr bee took them to his mom's. I hope you know you can always vent to me too!

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

thank u haha well, no one knows i'm posting here in the first place, soooooo….

ooohh i'm sure u'd look hot as hell with sth like a bob haircut with ur super expressive eyes and smooth and sweet cheeks..

yeah of course, always vent to me when u need to! even when i'm having a break from here every once in a while, i'll always have an open ear for u, u know that! and i know i can always vent to u as well, and as i've done so in the past.. haha..

Re: How big is too big of an age gap?

Lol but irl you do drugs and go to clubs. But you have such an angelic appearance. I love the contrast.

Awwww i love you! Lol

a lot of people say that but you're always actually there. A true blue! I'm getting emotional lol!

Old guys are dead sexy. Except if they are incontinent. That spoils it. Also if they have senile dementia and forget who you are. Also if they have erectile dysfunction.
