Jack Ging : He was a great actor!

He was a great actor!

He was in lots of movies and television series (usually as a guest star) and was a good character actor. If Hollywood had used him more wisely I think he would have had an even better career. He played football for Coach Bud Wilkinson at Oklahoma from 1951 to 1953 and even though he only weighted about 152 lbs. he was a star halfback. He was on the team in 1953 that started Oklahoma's incredible 47 game winning streak. During his years Oklahoma went 25-4-2 and was highly ranked. The 1953 team beat No. 1 Maryland in the O 5b4 range Bowl 7 to 0 which was his last football game as a player for Oklahoma. After college he served his country in the Marines for 4 years and then started his acting career. He is from Alva, Oklahoma.

Re: He was a great actor!

He has a grandson who plays football for Kansas State. He is John Houlik who is a sophomore linebacker. Besides Mr. Ging, John's other grandfather is Anton Houlik who is a hall of famer running back for Wichita State so football is in his genes.

Re: He was a great actor!

Jack Ging is a God. Enough said.

Not on the rug, man....

Re: He was a great actor!

I grew up watching TV in the 50s and 60s and Jack Ging was one of my first crushes!

He was, indeed, a terrific actor. I wish he had starred in a TV series so that I could be buying it now on DVD!

Re: He was a great actor!

He had a pretty good role on Riptide for two and a half years. You can get that on DVD now.

Re: He was a great actor!

I live in Tulsa and had no idea about any of this. Thanks for the post. Does he still live in the Sooner state?

Re: He was a great actor!

IMDB says he lives near Los Angeles. It sounds like he's retired from acting. I knew his father, Raymond Ging. He worked at my high school in Waynoka, OK. My Dad says the family lived near Waynoka. They may have lived in Alva too as it was only 26 miles.
