The Tourist : For the haters

For the haters

Oh for crying out loud! It was an entertaining movie. Beautiful people. Beautiful places. Fun story. IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THE CURE FOR CANCER. Get over yourselves.

Re: For the haters

Eye candy, like a music video.

Mwuhahahahhaaa!

Re: For the haters

I actually liked the movie. Not the best movie ever but entertaining, I wasn´t bored, nice setting Depp was OK and even though I ´m not an Angelina fan, she was very elegant in it

Re: For the haters

Agreed on all comments.

Re: For the haters

Agree. Great fun, entertaining, plot twist in the end.

No matter where you go "there you are".

Re: For the haters

I'm trying to like it but I wasn't impressed when they followed her at the start in a van about 30 feet behind her.

Nor when they grabbed the courier right in front of her.

I'm not one to fuss about details but this struck me as just lazy film making.

But I'm still watching now and am warming to it.

*Edit: very disappointed in the film. Considering the budget and the cast, you'd have thought they'd have spent a bit more than 50p on the script.

Re: For the haters

Its watchable in a half bothered way as it does not need your full concentration. Expected better given the star power involved.

Its that man again!!

Re: For the haters

She knew she was followed and they knew that she knew, because she's an Interpol agent

Re: For the haters

I can live with the van following close by; slow driving in central Paris streets isn't unusual, and if you're not expecting to be followed, you wouldn't notice anyway - and if she IS expecting the police to monitor her, it's all just a show for the gallery anyway... :D

The grabbing if the courier is a bit ackward, though - everybody within a hundred meters would have noticed this! Why does the courier try to make a run for it, by the way? Same with the policeman running over to the burning note, yelling "No, stop! Police!" with Jolie only about 20 meters away... She would have a hard time convincingly ignoring these two incidents!

Re: For the haters

Agree 100%,not to be taken seriously but hugely entertaining.

Re: For the haters

great fun!

Re: For the haters

yeah, i avoided it as a result of its 5.9 imdb rating and poor reviews but my girlfriend said she saw it twice and loved it, it was on cable recently, so i thought i'd give it a go. i'm glad i did. i've seen all of the films on AFI's top 100 list, most of the IMDB top 250, watch a lot of 'artsy', foreign, and indepdent films, classic films, documentaries . . . basically, i'm open to anything and i actually found this movie to be relatively entertaining. no, it wasn't oscarworthy but it wasn't bad by any stretch, in my opinion.

i think this film was more consistent with movies that gain a 6.7 or so here on imdb.

Re: For the haters

Delongtina - I entirely agree. It maybe tends toward being chewing gum for the eyes ... but it's pretty tasty and entertaining chewing gum!

There's real life ... and then there's movies!

Re: For the haters

Agreed. Beautiful locations. I got the impression the film was not made purely for an american audience, neither was SALT, but I enjoyed both.

Re: For the haters

So it is "hate" to point out that the first twenty minutes accomplish little more than drinking a cup of coffee? That the cops chasing her are conveniently too inept to disperse a crowd? Or put in a call to halt the subway for the ten seconds it would take to catch up to her? That's about where I gave up on watching - unbearably slow opening leading to cartoonish hijinks.

Re: For the haters

I must "hate" it too. I had originally thought "this is not the most exciting or moving movie" -hate is such a strong word . Tolerable, maybe to most people but I could not continue paying attention. Gave it a fair shot but turned it off about half-way through.

Re: For the haters

This movie was a good watch on a rainy day. Huge fan of Depp, not so much of Jolie. I do think that the twist at the end was tacked on and would have been better without it. Other than that, this was a beautiful movie with great looking stars, just leave your brain at the front door.

Re: For the haters

Didn't expect it to be the cure for cancer. I didn't expect much from it when I watched it and I still just didn't like it.

I kind of don't care if the people are beautiful or not. If the story is boring, the story is boring and no amount of vain can save it for me.

You can't fake good art any more than you can fake a good meal.

Re: For the haters

I had heard this was bad from that Ricky Gervais dig, but was willing to give it a go when it came on justin.tv the other night. I had to turn it off after about 30 minutes because I was actually embarrassed for the actors. Cannot put my finger on it, but usually good actors make acting look easy. In this Jolie and Depp made it look hard.

Re: For the haters

managed to sit through this somehow, twist at teh end not a major surprise, Depp normally very watchable but this was not the right vechile for him. Glad a managed to sit through as the best them about the movie was the Muse song Starlight over teh final credits, but could have just listened to it on my ipod.

Re: For the haters

It was OK. Nothing to memorable but a nice watch that keeps you entertained.

Re: For the haters

Did you see the original film named 'Anthony Zimmer' (2005)??? That film was 1000x better than this crap

Re: For the haters

After giving this a miss at the cinema because the trailer looked awful, I just watched it on tv (it's Sunday night, there's nothing on and this has Johnny Depp in it!!!) and it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be or as critics made it out to be.

It probably didn't live up to the money spent on it but it was watchable - I didn't even mind Angelina's faux English accent and her overly glamourous look (which is partially what annoyed me in the trailer). Also, it was kind of nice to see Johnny not being either super cool or uber weird in a film for a change.

Yes, it was a bit predictable but I'd probably give it a least a 6 out of 10.

Re: For the haters

you watched it too on channel 4

I would give it 6/10 too

Re: For the haters

Yeah, I wasn't really expecting to like it but I enjoyed it just fine.

I suppose the haters didn't like it because they expect more from Angelina/Johnny Depp films but it was a bit of lighthearted fun imo.

Re: For the haters

Having seen it 3 or 4 times at home on my large flat screen (which beats the heck out of what I used to watch movies on an certainly is better than when commercials interrupt) I thought it was quite enjoyable.I just had one wish. Johnny-comb your hair. But I'm ready to see it again. It was fun. Fun is good.

Re: For the haters

I really hate the word "hater". It's just something you can label a person if you're intellectually too lazy to listen to their arguments or come up with some of your own.

Re: For the haters

I agree with your sentiment. They have labelled everyone who had a valid argument about this glorified advertisement for clothing, jewellery, alcohol and eye shadow. People must feel some kind of self loathing to go along to a patronising film because they like the stars and then feel the need to defend it by using one word. I like the stars in other films too, but this was beneath both of them and phoned in.

Re: For the haters

So true!!!!!

Re: For the haters

whoever defends this movie and found it entertaining should see a doctor.

Re: For the haters

You are the one who should see a doctor.

"Tell yourself whatever you need to hear, you're the only one listening."

Re: For the haters

Absolutely! Beautiful setting, good acting, ravishing Angelina, interesting Johny, charming story... what else can one expect out of an entertaining movie? I give it a 7.5 to an 8.0.

Re: For the haters

Just watched this movie (yet) again and I still think it's great. It occurs to me that, if it had been made in the '60s with Cary Grant and Grace Kelly as the stars, people would look at it differently and realise what a truly amusing and good looking story it is. I think that many expect different performances from Depp and Jolie so this doesn't quite fit the bill for them. In fact, watched for what it is, rather than what some think it might have been, it is an excellent piece of entertainment. Also, let's not forget that the screenplay was written by Julian Fellowes - that's a great recommendation right there.

There's real life ... and then there's movies!

IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THE CURE FOR CANCER.

No, but with all due respect, it was supposed to be a good film and you are on a thread where people talk about play pretend in films, and how good it was. If you want to discuss cancer, I am positive there are sites for that. Here's where we discuss film.

"...I have nipples, Greg. Could you milk me?"

Re: For the haters

It was O.K but it could have been much better.
There was a good screenplay somewhere but the finished product felt unfocused. It didn't know what type of film it wanted to be so it put in a bit of everything. And that made it over-cooked. It tried to be ambitious but failed.

O.K but nothing more. Probably not worth returning to.

Re: For the haters

It wasn't the least bit entertaining, it was incredibly dull.
