It's a toss-up between Jim Caviezel and Jonathan Roumie.

Jonathan Roumie is quickly vying for the top spot with me. Although he has the advantage of playing the character over many episodes of a TV series.

Willem Dafoe.

Victor Garber in Godspell.
Re: Favourite actor who played Jesus Christ
I don't recall his name, but he was that guy from a long time ago masquerading as the son of God. He did an awesome acting job!
Re: Favourite actor who played Jesus Christ
Willem Dafoe did the best and most honest portrayal.

^ " Most honest portrayal " Gameboy being delusional again.
Gameboy took several religion and theology classes in College that did him no good.
Not knowing anything about scripture and never having the Holy Spirit come into his life in a profound way. So he is clueless when it comes to our Lord Jesus Christ.
So he thinks the actions and thoughts written by Hollywood atheists and idolatrous cretins is accurate.
These cretins ascribe Man's motivations and thoughts to a divine being. Sure he came down from Heaven and was manifested in the flesh.
So he could suffer just like any of us. But what was in his heart and soul and mind was not what all of us fools have. He was pure in thought and without sin.
The Last temptation of Christ main narrative of Jesus yearning to be married and having a Family on Earth is not only heresy but blasphemous and complete and utter fiction.
The only poster who had his account banned 4 times without ever breaking any rules each of those times.

Re: Favourite actor who played Jesus Christ
Uh, no, I've read the Bible 3 times straight through from Genesis to Revelations. Have you?
I personally believe it's evident Jesus was heterosexual and married to Mary Magdalene and had a family. The wedding described in John where Christ turned water into wine was obviously Jesus's own wedding. Why else was it put in scripture?
But even if you disagree that Jesus was married, the rest of the story is true to scripture.
The story is just a hypothetical "what if?" if Jesus had not sacrificed himself and decided to marry and have kids and forsake god the father.
But Jesus did sacrifice himself on the cross, did he not?
You misunderstand the movie. The married Jesus is almost like a dream sequence of what might have happened. It doesn't say he was actually married.
Understand now?

In this response you say something so utterly stupid that I won't lower myself to even acknowledge it.
I instead will comment on your other statement. You stating the rest of the film is accurate if you throw out the wedding.
You're a fool. The dialog was cringe worthy. Dafoe played our Lord as a hippie/nomad talking about free love without any context.
He says " I wanna get sooo angry at the money lenders and just scream, but when I go to scream , only love comes out of my mouth" .
Our Lord was only manifested in the flesh. But he was not of the flesh. He is from everlasting to everlasting. He was before creation.
That is why David is constantly quoted as saying my Lord said to the Lord. He was speaking of the Father to the Son. Centuries before Jesus came to Earth.
Or Why Isiah speaks of Christ Crucifixion hundreds of years before his actual birth.
Jesus was not a Man. He was manifested in the flesh but was not a MAN. Scorsese ascribes motivations and thoughts of a MAN to our Christ.
Jesus knew from day one what his mission was. He wasn't some empty headed air head not understanding why these thoughts of love were popping into his head.
This film trivialized his meaning of the word love.
Like it's some utopian mystical unattainable plane of existence.
" No greater love hath a man than to lay down his life for another" This has real meaning
Jesus spoke of love in the context of Mankind understanding that peace on Earth and total happiness will not be achieved by bloodshed or by conquered lands. By MAN having love for one another as his brother.
"The Lion shall lay down next to the Lamb."
I could literally pick apart 90% of this horrific film and specifically say why this scene or that scene is not accurate.
So no, it is not just the disgusting lie of Jesus having thoughts of marrying and starting a family. The wedding that is spoken of is his.
BUT NOT A MAN MADE LITERAL WEDDING. The wedding describes Jesus (Bridegroom) to the Church(bride) . The wages of sin are death.
Jesus layed down his life as the ransome to be paid. He who believes in him will have everlasting life.
I could literally just quote scripture to let God's word answer these idiotic claims.
But if I did None of you would read it as you all have turned your back to God.

Re: Favourite actor who played Jesus Christ
There is no misunderstanding. His dream sequence never happened because he NEVER had those thoughts. NEVER.
Just the fact that you yourself State unequivocally that you believe Jesus was "Heterosexual and Married" shows you have no idea who and what Jesus was and is to this very day.
If it's true you have read the Bible from beginning to end 3 times (dubious claim) then it is also evident that you literally took nothing away from it.
In terms of actual meaning and guidance for how to live one's life.

Re: Favourite actor who played Jesus Christ
I was raised Orthodox but studied LDS. Much of what is shown in the film fits in with Mormon theory. But the Mormons weren't the first ones to theorize that Jesus was married and had kids. This goes back to the 3rd and 4th century Gnostics.
You're viewing this from the standpoint of a believer. And I can respect that. I'm looking at it more as a student of religion, theologically.
First, I didn't say throw out the wedding. I said, it's very clear that the wedding in John where Jesus turned water into wine was his own wedding to Mary Magdalene. Do you think random events were just thrown into scripture for lulz?
The film really does stick to the story in the gospel. It shows the devil's "last temptation" of Christ that if he renounces his role as the redeemer who sacrifices himself for humanity, he can enjoy all the fruits of the earthly life - the wife, the kids, the joys of materialism.
So that's what Jesus is imagining on the cross when the story flashbacks. But Christ resists the temptation and sacrifices himself.
It just shows what Christ could have had and what he gave up. It's fiction of course but it explains Christ as both a man and a god in flesh and as the son of god in the most explicit way possible. I would not be surprised if many people converted to Christianity after watching this film.
You can't say Jesus' wasn't a man. He was crucified and murdered and died. A god doesn't die. A god can be resurrected though as a man.

Re: Favourite actor who played Jesus Christ
Manifested in the flesh I said like 7 times. But his thoughts and motivations were only God Like. And it was not a literal wedding and certainly not to Mary Magdalene.
Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were both false prophets who literally invented two books that were not inspired by God.
Remember Smith wrote 2 books because he forgot what he wrote in the first book. Mormons are a joke and are to be shunned.

Re: Favourite actor who played Jesus Christ
You don't understand Mormonism. As I said, it was a 19th century Gnostic revival movement.
Jehovah's Witnesses are a 19th century revival of the 3rd century prophet Arius's teachings against the trinity.
Christian Science was a 19th century movement for healing through prayer. Was Mary Baker Eddy a fraud too?
They're all part of a larger 19th century revival of primitive Christianity. They all drew on earlier Christian teachings.
You can pick at the individual prophets all you want. But they all offered something of value.
Actually there's a very important point to be made there. Those "money lenders" were Jewish loan sharks who used the temple to prey on the poor with enormous interest rates.
Jesus was a Jewish reformer.

Re: Favourite actor who played Jesus Christ
Stop looking at Jesus as a politician and his preaching as a political movement. Or suffer Judas Iscariot and Rome's fate you will. Those are Man made thoughts and ideals.
Look to a higher power than MAN for your knowledge and fulfillment.
You know absolutely nothing about Christ or Christianity.
But you do know a lot about Paganism and heretics claiming to know something.
You recanting the history of Man made diarrhea doesn't mean it has anything to do with the gospels.
One day if I have time I will sit down with you and show you the Gospels and as I read them to you, I will explain what each and every sentence mean.
I'm sure you also learned quite a bit about Nietzsche and Descartes as well.
Neither of them and what they say are meaningless when up against the Gospels.

It used to be Robert Powell for me, until Jim Caviezel took over that role in Passion of the Christ. The man was struck by lightning TWICE while filming and survived! Now if that isn't some biblical shit, I don't know what is.

Re: Favourite actor who played Jesus Christ
The Last Temptation of Christ was the best Jesus Christ movie I've seen, and as far as the whole Jesus never had any thought of temptation, such as marriage for example, it says in the Bible that the devil tempted him and he fought the temptation.
So if he fought the devil's temptation can we not assume that having a wife and kids might have been a temptation he fought? I mean were they suppose to make the movie where he fights temptation but they never give us any temptations to see him fight off? They had to fill in the blanks, with some sort of temptation didn't they?
