Star Trek: The Next Generation : Favourite Star Trek Shows?

Favourite Star Trek Shows?

In order of best to worst, how do you rate the show?

I say

Star Trek: Next Generation (1987-1994)-9/10

Star Trek: Voyager (1995-2002)-8.5/10

Star Trek: Deep Space 9 (1993-1999)-7/10 (need to see more)

Star Trek: Enterprise (2001-2005)-6/10 (need to see more)

Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973-1974)-3/10

Star Trek:The Original Series (1966-1969)
-1/10

I love Next Generation and Voyager but i slightly prefer Next Generation because of the ensemble cast and very strong lead actor, Voyager also has a great leader but some unlikeable supporting cast, only like Janeway, Seven Of Nine, The Doctor and the woman who looks like slighty like a klingon.

I need to watch more of Deep Space 9 and Enterprise.

The Original Series and The Animated Series are awful, bad and hammy acting, sets are bad and effects while may be ok then but boring.

I rate The Animated Series a bit higher because as it is animated/drawn we dont have to watch William Sh!tner's alleged acting skills which are very hammy if you can call it acting, the shows are worth watching for Leonard Nimoy as Spock, he is probably the best character in the whole franchise.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

Which episodes of DS9 did you see? I like DS9 the most simply because of the Dominion, the "anti-Federation" that subjugates almost all of the Gamma Quadrant species and wages war on non-shapeshifters like humans, Klingons and everyone else in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. It was this dynamic, not to mention the groundbreaking SFX shots in the biggest space battles that Star Trek has EVER seen, that made DS9 so popular, even if it wasn't "mainstream" popular like TNG. I certainly found the Dominion to be a far better foe to the Federation and everyone else than the Borg ever were.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

I've said this before and now I'll say it again, the only really bad thing about STTAS was the animation.

Spenser with an "S", like the poet.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

The fact that barely any of the cast can act is a bad thing too

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

cind5; The animation was great! It was 1973!

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

I guess for 73 it was good, but it doesn't hold up. I wouldn't say great even back then. Jonny Quest came out 10 years earlier and it had superior animation.

Spenser with an "S", like the poet.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

The Looney Tunes were 20 or more years prior and had far superior animation than TAS. TNG is the best Trek, baby.

Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

Looney Tunes had superior animation because they were theatrical short cartoons played in front of movies. They were originally made for the big screen and not tv and thus had larger budgets and better animators. Same with Tom and Jerry, Popeye, Tex Avery and Disney short cartoons.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

Ooh. I love Tom and Jerry.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is considered one of the greatest 1980s cartoons and yet it had the same $hitty animation, being made by the same people. So what?

Greatest 80's cartoon He-Man? How about Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors,COPS,MASK,GI Joe,Transformers(not the sh!tty Bay movies)

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

Ha, ha, I'm watching the entire run of G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero cartoons right now. It's good stuff, even though no one gets killed in them. The best cartoon of the 1980's for me is the Japanese anime Macross (1982-83). Macross became the first part of Robotech in the U.S. and other English speaking countries in 1985, but watching the 36 episode series in its original Japanese with English subtitles is phenomenal.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

The French/Euro cartoon Il était une fois...(Once Upon A Time) series were pretty good and educational especially the the Il était une fois... L'espace(Once Upon A Time Space) series is very good .

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

Actually, Nex, my all-time favourite was always Mysterious Cities of Gold, followed by Ulysses 31 and runners-up featuring Thundercats, Dogtanian and Dungeons and Dragons.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

Uh, excuse me. The best cartoon of the late 80's early 90's is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

I couldn't stand the TMNT back then, in fact I couldn't even bear to look at them. I remember some illiterate man wanting me to read out his TMNT comic book to him and I just couldn't do it, kept stalling for time or for someone else to do it. I just couldn't BEAR the thought of reading that crap out to him. What's worse, I remember he saved up for a very long time just so he could get an NES so he could play the TMNT videogame! In hindsight, and thanks to the AVGN's concise review... he shouldn't have bothered.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

What do you have against the mighty Ninja Turtles, Foe?

Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

Because out of all 1980s cartoons, it has THE most ridiculous and absurd premise: that of a bunch of turtles and a rat mutated by god-knows-what radiation, and the rat ends up teaching the turtles martial arts, somehow. Also, that herbivores would somehow end up liking pizza above all else, and have a journalist who wears bright yellow following them around covering their exploits, is silly still. Lastly, the villain is your typical rule-the-world wannabe who never gets his own way (yawn) and he's sometimes aided and abetted by two more mutants who wear ridiculous "cool" clothes and an alien blob who lives inside the belly of some kind of humanoid transport, and who ironically turned out to be the only character I found amusing. All the characters look ridiculous as well.

Does that answer your question?

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

Check out the links it was a very good series where a lot of later SF movies and series nicked ideas from,it was in many ways ahead of it's time and was treating kids not as idiots but was sometimes intelligent and educational without being to overt about it.It had good stories which consisted of single stories per episode that form links with other episodes and had a story that had a complete seasonal arc.
TMNT was later in the 80's by that time I was busy with other things ,plus it never appealed to me and if we truly want to talk about the best cartoons of the 80's how can we forget animated movies like Heavy Metal and probably one of the best animated movies of all time Akira(both of which are not kids stuff).

Is this Mysterious Cities of Gold, Nex? It sounds like you're describing it precisely.

Why are you here if you haven't seen the movie yet?

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

No it's called Once Upon A Time..... there were multiple series one dealt with;
-Man:About Human history done in an entertaining way but quite accurate and not covering up the darker sides of certain events
-Space:Which was not educational per se but still managed to provide an insight of the knowledge of the times not shying away from social commentary.
-Life:About the human body done entertainingly and quite accurately.
-The Americans:Dealing with American history from the early civilisations as Maya ,Aztec and dealing with the conquistadores, slavery and modern history.
-The Discoverers:From the Chinese to Neil Armstrong.
-The Explorers:From the first navigators until future explorations into space.
-Planet Earth:Dealing with global crises facing us poverty, fuel resources, water resources, climate change etc.
But the style of both Mysterious Cities Of Gold and Ulysses 31 came from the Jean Chalopin/Japanese production company and the Once Upon A Time series was also a French/Japanese co production(with further funding from various other European countries) Which might explain why the style looks the somewhat the same.Plus France and the surrounding countries were very much influenced with Metal Hurlant(heavy Metal)movement so traces in both serie can be found there as well.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

I highly recommend Mysterious Cities of Gold in any case, Nex - I still watch it to this day, sometimes.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

I have seen Mysterious Cities Of Gold ,Ulysses 31 and most of the Jean Chalopin series (Inspector Gadget,MASK,Jayce And The Wheeled Warriors,Heathcliff)of the 80's it was the always on the same channel together with The Starfleet-project(not Trek related).

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?

Tao was always my favourite character - there's just something about him being the last descendant of an ancient advanced civilisation, not to mention his talent for invention - maybe I just like smart people.

Re: Favourite Star Trek Shows?
