Books : Favorite audiobook narrator?

Favorite audiobook narrator?

Mine is Edward Herrmann.

Re: Favorite audiobook narrator?

Ooh, I haven't listened to any read by him, but I love his narrating voice on documentaries and such. Any particular recommendations?

I very much enjoy Neil Gaiman reading his own work. Jeremy Irons' reading of Lolita is another favorite.

Re: Favorite audiobook narrator?

I never listened to audiobooks much, but I do remember listening to the audiobook for Out of the Dust. It was a kid's novel about the Dust Bowl. I don't remember the name of the narrator, but I loved how she read the story in an Oklahoma accent. "July, 1935". *pause* "Me and pa ate dust covered biscuits again today."

Re: Favorite audiobook narrator?

Neither do I make much use of them.
I discovered Benedict Cumberbatch's reading on a music record, Late Night Tales.
Guillaume Gallienne does readings one hour a week on France Inter, a radio show called 'ça peut pas faire de mal' (I think this year some of his stuff will be on sale, but that is not for sure)
Abbes Faraoun is the only reader I listened from audio tapes books, written by Christian Jacques, (that was in the xxth century, and I stopped having a ton of ironing to do around from that time.:)
Average, I listened maybe half a dozen audio books, and more like four of them than six.
Maybe when I'm blind as a bat with age this will change, though!

LOL. Maybe. Late Night Tales sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out.

Re: Favorite audiobook narrator?

Very good idea, imho. It's worth a try.

Re: Favorite audiobook narrator?

Sissy Spacek for To Kill a Mockingbird. She captures Scout's voice perfectly. (Beware of listening to this one with open windows, though, cuz of the N-word.)
