Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

The Star Trek Original Movies are such Epic Cheese , and I say that in a great American Cheese Way !! I'm very fond of them all , Wrath of Khan though , being my least favourite . I also like the Next Generation Movies , with Generations being my favourite Trek movie , and First Contact being my least favourite in that Series . I have had no real interest in the Reboot Movies , but I'm sure they're a great Set for the younger and newer Fans , so Good luck to Them !

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

i'm really not into "Wrath of Khan" either.

out of the Next Generation Movies "Generations" is my favorite and "First Contact" my second

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

Yes , there is a lot to like in Generations , even though the death scene in the finale seemed to be underdone . First Contact is a well made movie , but I found the close-ups on the actors accentuated their age some . The good thing about the Original Movies is that there was an ongoing story through the Set .
I'm also a general scifi fan and have followed the Brits with Red Dwarf and Dr Who as well as many others . How do you compare Star Trek to these ?

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

believe it or not i love scifi but haven't seen any of those

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

I must say I'm surprised , Kurt ! Red Dwarf premiered on British Tv in 1988 and has continued to the present 2016 , with the same actors over 11 Seasons , with a 12th on order . It is a Space Sci-Fi Satire/Sitcom , about a group of futuristic buddy's marooned in space in a malfunctioning spacecraft . Their very eccentric or male attitudes to their situation have kept the series aloft for 28 years . My wife hates it , and it is banned from being on Tv , when she is in the room !

Doctor Who has run from 1963 to 2016 over 37 Seasons , with other numerous book , multimedia , radio and television spin-offs . It is about a Time Lord/Holocaust Survivor who is trying to rectify the Time War/Disaster . He is hiding in Britain and trying to help them . The situations the Doctor finds himself in lead to the Series eccentric entertainment .
For a newbie , it's best to break into the Who Continuum with the 2005 Series 1 and go from there !

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

i heard of Dr Who but not Red Dwarf

are you saying i should watch Dr Who first, then Red Dwarf?

i always wanted to watch Dr Who

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

Both shows are very British , with that embedded subtle British humor . With non-British viewers it's 50/50 , some love it , but many can't get into the culture or humor of it , because it's British with many waiting for the action , that never comes .

Red Dwarf started as a low-budget comedy for the BBC's 2nd Channel , but has become increasingly refined and noticed.. but it is still a comedy on a busted interstellar ship .

Doctor Who is full of twisted plots with weird people and creatures . You can jump into any Season , but the storyline is ongoing , and it can get confusing .

Doctor Who Season 1 2005 was the beginning of the new updated modern Doctor Who . The Series from there is quite long and involving , and it is really up to the viewer if he has the time to become part of the weird and wonderful Series to be enjoyed .
So , The Best of British !

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

I have the "Red Dwarf" novels as well as the scripts from the first few seasons. "Steptoe and Son in space on acid" was how the creators described the initial concept. I also have a few of the episodes on video cassette. One of my favourite episodes is where the snide and cowardly Arnold Rimmer meets his alternate self from another dimension - a Rimmer who is dashing, charismatic, brave and modest. I also like the episode where Rimmer contracts a "holo-virus" and goes mad.

It's a pity they felt it necessary to remaster and "improve" the show by adding in a whole lot of sophisticated high-tech SFX, even changing the shape of the spaceship. When the writers first came up with the idea, they wanted to emphasise the ordinariness of life on a futuristic spaceship, with very low key production values. The pilot script said that the interior of the spaceship could look like the corridors of a TV company.

I'm a Doctor Who fan as well, though I tend to prefer the "classic" episodes.

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

Great to hear from another Dwarfer , Greg ! I love this show , from it's simple and pleasurable beginning to it's mature bombastic period.. comedy in it's purest form for many years . It is still good comedy , even though it is sophisticated now , but I think we're looking at their farewell , soon !

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

I haven't seen them in quite some time and don't remember either as well as I should, but the two that I've rated the highest on IMDb are:

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991)

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

I kind of like the Abrams films so far. Not crazy for them, but I like them.

Metallica and Iron Maiden are Bronies

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?…

For 'TOS' it's TWoK; for 'TNG' it's FC.

Top 3 are:

3. TVH.

2. FC.

1. TWoK.

I'll let you know when I come-up with a new signature, .

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

My favorite is First Contact. The only Star Trek movie I haven't seen is Beyond, but considering that I'm not a fan of the J.J. Abrams Star Trek movies there's virtually no chance that it could supplant First Contact.

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

First Contact is very good. just watching TNG series and can't wait to watch the movies after

Re: Favorite Star Trek movie?

For me it comes down to two movies.

Star Trek the Wrath of Khan, easily the best acted, the best written, the best villain, exciting, thought provoking and contains the most emotional scene of any Trek film with the death of Spock, a rousing score by the late great James Horner.

Star Trek the Motion Picture Director's Cut is by far the most epic, the most cerebral, the most awe-inspiring, incredibly beautiful visuals, the score is my favorite of any Trek film and one of the best ever, also the most unique in that this is the only Trek film where the Enterprise feels like a real spaceship and the much maligned uniforms I now prefer over all others.

So it's a toss up for me.
