Science Fiction : Fantastic Voyage (1966)

Fantastic Voyage (1966)

Now this is an underrated gem! I don't know why it only has 6.8, but this had incredibly beautiful effects, and not only for its time either. It's fascinating visual storytelling, and a movie which will only be even better on second viewing.

Re: Fantastic Voyage (1966)

I first saw it on TV around 1970. Raquel Welch made a deep (and lasting!) impression on my young mind. Particularly when the rest of the crew had to remove those platelets (or whatever they were) clinging to her skin-tight costume! *Sigh* A tough job - but somebody had to do it!

Saw it on its first release. Wonderful (but what happened to the wrecked sub?)

"Say it with flowers . . . give her a Triffid."

Re: Fantastic Voyage (1966)

The sub was broken down by the white corpuscles and absorbed into the body.

The stupid have one thing in common. They alter the facts to fit their views not the other way!

I doubt that: the white cell wouldn't have had time as the crew and the sub were on the point of returning to normal size.
It must have bothered Isaac Asimov too because in his novelisation the crew persuaded the white cell to follow them out of Benes' body.
Either way it's still a riveting yarn in the tiny genre marked "Non-stupid SF".

Re: Fantastic Voyage (1966)

I can't believe how lucky you are! It must have been quite an experience seeing it for the first time in the theater.

Re: Fantastic Voyage (1966)

I agree. I enjoyed it. It was intelligent and well made and the effects were impressive.

I would give it a solid 8/10.

Re: Fantastic Voyage (1966)

I also saw this in '66. At the time, the fx were groundbreaking.

Donald Pleasance was such a pain in the posterior, you only had to wait until he revealed himself to the crew and got his just reward.

If the fx are somewhat worn by the passage of time, the movie is still highly entertaining and there is always Raquel to further fire up the imagination.

Re: Fantastic Voyage (1966)

I was starting to watch it and got bored and found it to be really B movie cheesy.

Like with all those tiny radars they put outside his body!
Hilarious!
