Star Trek V: The Final Frontier : Fan edit?

Fan edit?

I bought a Blu-ray of ST5 a while back when it was on sale for dirt-cheap. I feel this movie contains a good story inside, hampered by some poor comedy here and there plus less-than-stellar special effects.

I hear there is a fan edit(s) which may have improved upon these flaws. I can't find it. Does anyone have a link or a suggestion? I tried fanedit.org but they are never useful.

Re: Fan edit?

I have a copy I downloaded off Vimeo awhile back, but I don't think its still up. Its a fantastic cut; I've watched it more times then the real movie. Fast paced and engaging. I don't know how you would want me to try to send it to you, but I'm down to attempt it.

Re: Fan edit?

Having recently watched the Adywan "Revisited" fanedit and enhancement of Star Wars: A New Hope, I was extremely impressed and wish they would do this for Star Trek V also. It may be hard to go back to watching the Lucas version(s)!

The new CGI effects that were added, along with re-editing and lots of minor enhancements including fixes, sound effects and colouring made it so much more wonderful, and would greatly benefit Star Trek V.

Re: Fan edit?

I've always said that you could whittle this down to about an hour and make a really good movie out of it, or at least, episode worthy.

Still, the idea of Lt. Scanlon being God...at least he reverts back to character by the end.

Re: Fan edit?

There are enhanced CGI clips on the web but there are 2 full on fan edits i'm aware of, one is this one but unfortunately nothing appears to be happening with it for some years now http://www.thecaptainkirkpage.com/trek5se.html Youtube clips here where the guy who made them did comment 2 years ago https://www.youtube.com/user/TREK5SE/videos

The other was one where it was shortened and re-edited to become more like an episode of TOS and does actually exist and sounds alot like the version mentioned by feenix219.

Ive seen neither unfortunately, hope this helps.

Re: Fan edit?

I have the TOS episode version; its not high def but its fun and watchable in soooo many ways. I've seen it more times then the actual movie by this point, i'd say. It removes all of the most offending content and keeps the plot moving nicely. I recommend it to anyone that can find it. If someone has a spot they want me to upload it to, I am more then happy to help. Its such a fun little episode..... basically nothing left to complain about.

Re: Fan edit?

I think I found a download link guys!! Don't know how good it is... but its something. Its definitely the "proper" version. Just not sure about the quality of this particular file.

Re: Fan edit?

Cheers for that shame its only the low res version but better than nothing!.

Even though it gets bashed alot i still have some like for this film, it's the one most like the TV series and has the most intriguing story so its cool seeing what this guy did with it.

Re: Fan edit?

It moves along at such a nice pace and all feels so damn naturual. I love it. Gets us "introduced" and back on the Enterprise so quick and then we're right in the middle of the action!

Re: Fan edit?

Thanks for this link.

It is a really good version of the film, even if it is lo-res. The pacing is better, and most of the silly or unnecessary scenes are removed.
