Screenwriters : Eric Roth

Eric Roth

What is your opinion of Eric Roth?

I think he's had a great career since winning an Oscar for Forrest Gump.

He tends to adapt novels, and even when he writes original screenplays, he likes to take inspiration from real life stories. He does great things in the genre thriller. And tends to write with collaborators.

He's written one of my favorite movies, The Insider, which made me a fan of his work. For me he's one of the best screenwriters working in Hollywood at the moment.

Re: Eric Roth

I don't disagree about the formula he puts in his movie. But I think he just tries to tell straightforward stories with a lot of heart to captivate viewers instead of alienating them.

More, his choice subjects - novels and biopics - don't give him a great margin of freedom, of course that's his own fault. If he adapts a novel, it's because he admires its structure; if he adapts historical events, he must try to portray them accurately.
