Bewitched : Endora and Arthur

Endora and Arthur

Endora and Arthur were brother and sister, and displayed sibling rivalry. Understandably, Endora had her limits for his practical jokes, but did put up with a lot from him.

After spending most of the evening heckling her during her Halloween party (including zapping a wet dead fish into her hands when she was trying to conjure up caviar), she had her breaking point and zapped him into the fountain as a statue replacement. Arthur stood there for some time in the exact pose as the statue, so I'm assuming she arranged it so he couldn't move as water poured down him.

One thing I was surprised at was when he had her dessert squirt a stream of chocolate right into her eye. He really crossed the line, and I thought she have zapped Arthur (and Darrin, for laughing) right into kingdom come. She displayed amazing restraint. (I always wondered if that caught Moorehead by surprise, with the stream hitting her right in the eye. She played it off well.)

Re: Endora and Arthur

I dunno how well her powers would work against another witch/warlock, I think witches can do other temporary things to other witches but, I'd say the witch or warlock could undo the spell pretty easy.

Re: Endora and Arthur

The last time Endora and Arthur face off is, unfortunately, is in the horrible
episode, "Samantha's Power Failure." Too bad we never saw them again in the
Sargent years - they would've been a breath of fresh air in that 8th season.

Re: Endora and Arthur

Interesting. I never knew Endora and Arthur were siblings. Didn't even bother to ponder how/why he'd be considered Samantha's "Uncle." I just sort of took her calling him that in jest and never questioned it. Did the show ever matter-of-factly state that he and Endora were sister and brother? Were Clara, Enchantra and Hagatha also their siblings?

Re: Endora and Arthur

Oh yes, they were siblings! In a third season episode it is made clear. Endora Moves in for a Spell.

Uncle Arthur visits and Endora doesn't want him to be an undue influence on Tabitha. So she zaps up a house across the street. Their rivalry creates havoc in the Stephens household.

The two of them have a conversation where Endora tells Arthur that until he came along she was "an only child". Arthur counters with, "I've always considered you an ONLY everything." LOL

I used to think Clara, Enchantra and Hagatha were Endora's siblings. But Clara is obviously older than Endora. The other two women seem to be close to her age also. They definitely didn't look younger than Arthur. Maybe they were Endora's great aunts. It's hard to tell from the episodes. The writers were vague about those family connection

Re: Endora and Arthur

I'm thinking, Clara, Hagatha and Enchantra were from Maurice's side of the family, I THOUGHT it was mentioned once.

Re: Endora and Arthur

Well that makes sense! Endora never called Clara, "Aunt Clara".

I wonder about Serena. Was she Maurice's niece? She never refers to Endora or Arthur as Aunt or Uncle. She clearly wasn't Arthur's daughter.

Sometimes I wish the show had not been so vague. Then we wouldn't need to speculate so much.

Re: Endora and Arthur

Although Serena did refer to him as Uncle Arthur in some episodes, she tells Darren's mother that she is related to Sam on her father's side.

Re: Endora and Arthur

I could swear there was an episode where Serena did call Endora "Auntie".

Re: Endora and Arthur

My favorite Lynde scene was pre Uncle Arthur.

"Selfish! SELFISH !!!"

Re: Endora and Arthur

I have to admit, I've never understood this joke. I think I'm missing something. Was he just saying it to the person honking behind them?

Re: Endora and Arthur

Yes. Not really a joke but just a Paul Lynde thing that only he could do. Just enjoy over the top behavior.
