House of the Dragon : Dumbest things you've heard about HOTD?

Dumbest things you've heard about HOTD?

Saw a video by some autismo yesterday who said they "can't wait to see Laenor return and see what he does next!"

The same guy also made a video claiming the Jon Snow show is directly tied into HOTD and the Long Winter hasn't even come yet, that the ending of GOT was not the actual ending, and HOTD is just setting up the story for "the real threat to come." I can almost buy this theory, but…

He also said Daenerys will return in the show, and that's why Drogon flew off with her body. He thinks the Dragon to her body to Ashai where the fire priests raised her from the deal ala Jon Snow and Berric Dondarrion, and she will possibly the great enemy, who keeps getting defeated and keeps coming back. Killing myself now against the prospect of any of this ever happening.

It would be pretty cool if Aegon was dropped from the original show simply because in this version he just didn't show up in time, and by the time of Jon Snow Show he's hitting the coast and raising his dragon banners from Storms End to Dorne. Obviously, i'm talking about Jon Coningtons Aegon, he of the Blackfyre Pretenders storyline which wasn't even mentioned on GOT but plays very prominently in the books.

This forum is dead. Nimda killed it.

Blocked.

Re: Dumbest things you've heard about HOTD?

And so it begins…

I almost want to see this video.

Re: Dumbest things you've heard about HOTD?

Okay, the deal is, I initially scoffed at the idea, thought the video was nonsense, but… it makes a lot of sense when you think about it. At least the Laenor part.

As we know it now, in HOTD there is literally no extraneous material. If they make a change from the book, it's going to have long term effects on the story as a whole. It's pointless to let Laenor live, unless he comes back at some point.

Major book spoilers below.

In the book, there'a an event called the Red Sowing, whereby those with alleged Targaryen blood (bastards) are allowed to try to claim dragons. One of these characters is Addam of Hull, who is said to be Laenors bastard, though he is thought to actually be Corlys bastard. He not only claims a dragon, he claims Laenors dragon, Seasmoke. Seasmoke wouldn't take a new rider if Laenor was actually still alive… see the problem? But he would certainly let Laenor resume riding him. And, they actually legitimize this supposed bastard, naming him the Heir to Driftmark. All of this is very convenient. It is now supposed that Laenor will return in secret, pretending to be Addam of Hull, and basically resume his place in the Velaryion hierarchy. It really does make a lot of sense, and i'm almost sold on it at this point.

Oh yeah, the dude is even said to look exactly like Laenor.

Re: Dumbest things you've heard about HOTD?

So Leanor would return in secret as his own bastard…kind of a Jesus undertone there. 😂

Re: Dumbest things you've heard about HOTD?

Well, it would have to be done this way, because it would fuck everything up if he just returned and everyone found out about the fraud they had all perpetrated those many years ago. Rhaenyras marriage to Daemon would not be legit, their children would not be legit, and their child Aegon would thus be out of line for the throne, which he does eventually inherit.

"Addam of Hull" arriving on the scene does provide a miraculous fix for many of the problems both The Greens and House Velaryion have found themselves involved in. I'm almost 100% certain this is the direction they will go with here.

Though I don't know how they will ever convince anyone that the extremely gay Laenor, who was never able to father any children with Rhaenyra and everyone knows it, could have other bastards out there. I think they'll opt to make him Corlys bastard instead.

Re: Dumbest things you've heard about HOTD?

I'd prefer the Corlys bastard route. It doesn't make sense he'd be sleeping with other women.

Re: Dumbest things you've heard about HOTD?

Oh btw, I've been reading the HoTD book during breaks at work and it's actually really good. I think the early pages and Reddit put me off so much that I'm surprised to find something very…readable

I think it's a bit like Dostoevsky books where I'll need to make notes to remember who the fuck everyone is

Might get it for xmas and just side eye it for months before caving. 😂

Re: Dumbest things you've heard about HOTD?

I remember I got so hooked on the ASOIAF books that I got to the red wedding on a Friday night and I forewent a night out and didn't even fucking drink. Couldn't put it down.

I doubt I'll get as engrossed as that, but it's way better than my early thoughts

Re: Dumbest things you've heard about HOTD?

That and the Purple wedding….👌

Re: Dumbest things you've heard about HOTD?

Lol I've spammed you about this before but the telltale game (which I think you can't even play anymore) allowed you to see the red wedding from another perspective.

The game was written by co-writer of the expanse books, Ty Franck, who is/was GRRM's 'personal assistant'. The game has GRRM's approval, so it's presumably canon.

Caraxes is a very famous real life dragon, appearing no less than 3 times in The Bible.
