Titanic : Dumbest line in the movie

Dumbest line in the movie

[while the ship is sinking, Jack and Rose break out of a room, damaging the door]

Steward: What do you think you're doing?! You'll have to pay for that, you know. That's White Star Line property!
Jack and Rose: SHUT UP!!

Uhm, ship is sinking, things are breaking around you....who cares about a door

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

The sinking hadn't effected the ship to list very noticibly by the time the scene you're referring to is evolving, especially when being inside and seeing nothing what's going on outside. People believed that Titanic would never founder. So, the steward was right to reprimand the "criminals".

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

Yeah, what you gonna do? Arrest them till the ship arrives into harbor?

I call BS on that. People were already panicking and running to any lifeboat they could.
Caring about a broken door when the ship was falling apart should never have made it into the script

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

Yeah, at that point, as an employee, he should have known that the ship was sinking. Hell, the passengers had a pretty good Idea.

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

As crazy as it was, the steward did say it in real life. But he said it to R. Norris Williams, in 1st Class.

Mia Carrick's a neat gal.

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

Titanic was big. Different people on different decks experienced it differently. Being in the bowels of the sinking Titanic closer to the stern gave you an illusion that everything would be OK (in the earlier stages of the sinking). Even the second officer Lightoller believed in Titanic and thought she would stay afloat (at least for the most time of the sinking) let alone a common steward.

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

it continued to show how terrible white star was

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

How is it a dumb line? It just shows how greedy and self-entitled some employees can be. Also, it was there for comic relief.

Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

Exactly. It showed that 1st class passengers were too materialistic to actually care about a sinking ship. That's why the older man and his son (?) were dressed up and refusing to go above the ship when it was sinking.

"We've dressed up in our best and are prepared to go down like gentlemen." -perfect example.

Exactly. It showed that 1st class passengers were too materialistic to actually care about a sinking ship. They're still snobbish in chaotic times. That's why the older man and his son (?) were dressed up and refusing to go above the ship when it was sinking.

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

What does first class have anything to do with the line or the scene? The two passengers that were dressed in there best had nothing to do with line being discussed.

were dressed up and refusing to go above the ship when it was sinking.

Wtf does that even mean?

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

When don't you understand something? lol

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

Eh to me it just showed how stuck up first class was. Sure he was an employee but I don't think third class passengers were waited on hand and foot.

Little Mikey Myers that lived across the street.

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

What does that have anything to do with first class?

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

Actually, a lot of stewards in the lower classes didn't even know the ship was sinking until it was too late. They just knew that they were ordered to lock down the lower decks. So, Jack and Rose smashing that door down just looks like typical 3rd class criminal activity to that steward.

Your first sentence is correct, but not the second. Surviving third class stewards affirmed that they did not think the ship was sinking, and though they kept back the passengers until the call came to send women and children up, they did not lock gates.

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

I love this movie, but some of the dumbest lines are:

1. "Something PIcasso. He won't amount to a thing! Trust me." (Eye-roll worthy attempt to make Cal look foolish and make the audience congratulate themselves for knowing better.)

2. "Ah, forget it, boyo. You’re as like to have angels fly out of your arse as get next to the likes of her.”

3. "Remember they love money, so just pretend like you own a goldmine and you're in the club."

4. "Monet!" "You know his work?" "Look at his use of color?" "I know, it's extraordinary." For two supposed art-lovers, they never had anything actually insightful to say about Monet's paintings other than "look at his use of color!"

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

It does show you just how far removed from reality the elite class was. You see lines such as "Grab me a brandy" as the ship is sinking as a way of showing you that they were oblivious to what was going on, or at least didn't want to be bothered by it. When you are in first class the truth is there were probably a lot of people who didn't actually have it "hit" them until they saw the frigid water rushing into their room. Ignorance is bliss, but they still died. So yeah, I could see things like that being said quite a bit on that ship.

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

The guy who asked for a Brady wasn't being ignorant, he knew full well what was happening and therefore dressed in his finest to go out in style. Curiously though, somebody actually went a broought him a brady, wonder if he had to pay for it as that was not covered by their fare.

For me, this Irish mans was a tool, hana

Re: Dumbest line in the movie

"Jack! This is where we first me." - Such a godawful corny-ass line.

Yes, this is really me.
