in germany, downloading a film on a torrent site is punishable by a 300 EURO fine!! the germans dont take intellectual property/copyright piracy lightly. what a fucked up system that is.

You don't need one in the United States. Advertising provides most of the profit for the private broadcasters. Subscriptions provide the rest. For public broadcasting, donations and some government funding covers their costs.

I don't bother. I download whatever I want from Pirate Bay and such. And the BBC is pretty much the Guardian online so there isn't that much worth watching
