Blu-ray Disc Releases : Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

Just curious what others do on here.

When I started buying Blu-rays back in 2010/2011, I bought them new. Since that time, I've started buying used (not rentals) discs on eBay. I can get some amazing deals. For example, I just picked up "The Social Network" for $3, including postage.

If my local JB Hifi store has the 2 for $20 deals going, I buy new but other than that, used is a lot more economical. And since most of them are upgrades from DVD, it makes sense.

What about you guys? Do you buy used or prefer to stick with brand new?

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

Yes. If it's for a straight upgrade of a title I have on DVD and the BD costs more than £5 new without an additional features.

And also if I just can't get my hands on it new.

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

not really. The only place i have around here that sells used blu-rays Is FYE

And sometimes they charge more for it it used than it costs new elsewhere

i was at FYE and they wanted 99.99 for "Star wars : Complete Saga" used

meanwhile I paid 89.99 for it new at Best buy in Janurary

I like having extras. Often rental versions are film only

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

I sometimes buy a 2nd-hand Dvd or Blu-ray on Ebay , when they are generally unobtainable in stores . I agree that JB Hifi prices are very reasonable at times too ( a Sale is on Today , Fry!)!

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

I used to buy second hand, back when there where a couple of stores in my city, who had a special permit to sell previous rental DVD and Blu-ray movies from various movie distributors.
Usually these stores had them on stock only 1-2 month after official DVD and Blu-ray release, so there i have saved tons of money on something like Disney, Pixar and DreamWorks animated movies on Blu-ray.

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

I used to buy a lot of ex-rentals. However the store I got them from closed down (scored a big pile from their closing-down sale).. they generally were in good-as-new condition unless they'd been there so long that the store stickers had dried up so some of the older ones I got in that sale got a bit of damage to the slicks. I've got a few other ex-rental cheapies that I bought online which weren't so easy to de-sticker so they look a bit crappy but hey, for a fraction of the retail price I can't really complain. I'm nowhere near as anal about the condition of my movies as I am about music, as long it plays through I don't even care if has a cover since most BD/DVD slicks are ugly anyway.

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

I usually purchase wholesale lots off Ebay when it comes to games and Blu-rays. They normally come in 10-20 titles and are between twenty-five dollars and a hundred. I get better deals that way.

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

I used to buy them at a Hastings chain in my area, but the store closed down. Now I'm forced to Buy brand new because there's no other stores in my area that sells used. I guess I'll now have to resort to Amazon or Ebay for my used goods.

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

I bought a load once from my local library (ex rental)

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

I buy both used and new.

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

I generally do not buy used ones but occasionally will. Used tend not to come with slipcover or digital codes, which is a huge plus for me. If I get a movie with a missing code then i'll obsess over getting a digital copy as well, which often tends to come in the form of just buying a brand new copy. May also be missing additional discs or dvd copy too.

For the most part I only buy 4k steelbooks nowadays unless no steelbook is available. A lot of times I will buy a normal bluray in addition to the steelbook because I generally like the look of the bluray cases better and the artwork is often better. They need to find a way to make those steelbook cases have more pop. They look very dull on a shelf compared to a bluray with slipcover.

I do

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

why oh why arent' there more movies on ebay really cheap like 5 dollars including shipping i would buy lumberjack man on dvd if it wasnt' 25 dollars like it is on amazon right now. wtf? why is this movie so expensive when it is 5 years old now and its' just on dvd?

there have to be websites that offer good deals on movie so 15 dollars including tax but what website is good other than ebay? do you know? what website has a good deal so 14.99 shipping for malena/blu ray, dread, blu ray, ayal, blu ray, and violent shit: the movie, blu ray?

i buy new if i love the movie and used if i dont like the movie but want to own the actress nudity scenes on blu ray.

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

Because shipping is $3 minimum nowadays and that's for shitty media mail shipping.

If you have a local Goodwill or such store check there, they get them almost everyday , often still sealed, and they only cost $2 each. You can build quite a collection of blurays dirt cheap in no time if you have time to check in every day for them. Sometimes they get 4k and Steelbooks as well.

Bring. More. Sheep.

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

Maybe because video rental stores are dead, so there aren't millions of ex-rental movies. And fewer brick-and-mortar retailers stocking movies, so less unsold stock going to liquidators.

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

a really sad thing just happened, fry's just closed if you go to their website it says they are out of business. so so sad and all bc of the fucking, evil pandemic. they were the biggest selection movie seller in the world.

if you went there your jaw would drop bc thy had rows and rows of movies for sale. and not just hollywood movies but small, independent movies, artistic movies.

wait who, what user do you buy 3 dollar including postage movies from on ebay?

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

I will if the asking price for new is too high. I recently bought the blu rays of Apocalypto and The Passion of the Christ. I wanted specific editions of each. Buying new versions would have cost me around $60 in total. So I bought 'very good' used copies on Amazon for a total or around $25. And they were both excellent purchases.

Also, I loved the 1990 tv series The Flash so much I wanted to get the series on dvd. At the time the only one I could find was a 'very good' copy on Amazon for $10. New ones were selling at twice that. So I bought it and you could not even tell it was used. Even the insert looked untouched.

I had the same luck with several seasons of The Simpsons.

But, in general, I will always try to find a new copy.

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

Not anymore. There's nothing that I really wanna keep except for like, The Harry Potter movie series.

Re: Do you buy second hand/used Blu-rays?

since it is no longer 2009, no I do not, I just watch shit online, often free, like normal folk.
