Grant Williams : Died of an acute infecdtion at 53…

Died of an acute infecdtion at 53…

Mind you this is purely speculation but this gorgeous guy, a confirmed bachelor dies of an "acute infection" in 1985 at the age of 53. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?? I worked in hospitals at that time & witnessed the coverups so I speak from personal experience when far too many young people died of mysterious causes. And the reality of it was the famous & near famous had press agents & faimilies hide the real truth. I welcome your thoughts & comments.

Re: Died of an acute infecdtion at 53…

I did not recall reading any actual cause, even an accute infection. Obviously, that is purposely vague, though I will not venture to speculate beyond that point. When we have so little fact to go on, no purpose is served by speculating when we could turn out to be wrong. The simple fact could be that the family i 5b4 s private by nature, nothing more.

OK, so what's the speed of dark?

Re: Died of an acute infecdtion at 53…

I dunno. WHAT are you thinking?

Re: Died of an acute infecdtion at 53…

Fecking conspiracy theorists! Tossers.

HE DIED OF PERITONITIS ... now go look it up.

Re: Died of an acute infecdtion at 53…

it is possible it was AIDS..dosent matter..a true talent in any regard.

Re: Died of an acute infection at 53…

Mr. Williams was not infected with Aids. He was not gay or bi-sexual and did not shoot drugs. At the time of his death Aids had just begun to rear its ugly head and the only cases then were related to the above-mentioned sources. I knew Grant Williams, who was a somewhat heavy drinker and enjoyed the company of pretty women. He never married, due to a bit of a Madonna complex. Those who are aware of the term know it has nothing to do with the singer/actress. Grant Williams lost respect for a woman as soon as she succumbed to his charms and allowed him to seduce her. He was very religious and wanted to marry, but only to a chaste woman. Unfortunately, he never found one... This is what he told me, anyway. My late husband and I used to go out to dinner with him and one of his long time girlfriends.

Re: Died of an acute infection at 53…

AIDS isn't restricted to homosexuals and drug users you know. I'm not saying he died of AIDS at all, I'm just disagreeing with your assumption.

Re: Died of an acute infection at 53…

Thank You 'appealing_talent' I actually wonder the same things as original poster, I think many do, but I would never actually speculate on a public forum.

I always thought of his performance in Shrinking Man as one of the best in any movie let alone a 50's B&W SciFi... which are my favorite kind.

Re: Died of an acute infection at 53…

It is a shame he was so unhappy. He was so talented and handsome. He deserved a much bigger career. I don't care if he was straight, gay, or a little of both. It has nothing to do with the quality of a person.

Re: Died of an acute infection at 53…

I was responding to an earlier poster who WAS making a big deal about whether he was straight or not and made the assumption he might have been a closeted gay and THAT is why he was unhappy at times in his life.

WHAT is your argument? Or do you just like arguing?

Stop it already…

I spoke w/ someone who knew him personally for many years. He died of peritonitis as a result of a burst appendix. He'd been a heavy drinker and when his girlfriend found him, he was already dead in his Hollywood apartment w/ empty vodka bottles all around. He was indeed a talented actor and it's a pity his career didn't take off the way it should simply because he was DIFFICULT to get along with. He was smart and knew it and would argue with anyone about anything especially after he's had a drink or two. Subsequently, he alienated even his closest friends and especially the ones in the business who could've helped his career. His friend I spoke w/ said Grant couldn't stand his co-actors in Hawaiian Eye.

And lastly, about his looks: No doubt one of the best looking actors to come out of Hollywood. Heck, if I looked like him, I'd take no prisoners!

Re: Stop it already…

I mentioned much of the following, in the first message thread, the poster of which is among many who apparently find Grant's sexual orientation the source of great prurient interest. You are assuming that he looked gorgeous throughout his life. His looks dramatically altered, with age, as he smoked, tended to drink too much, not exercise regularly nor eat a healthy diet. By the time he reached his early 40's he was barely recognizable.

He definitely suffered somewhat from a case of arrested emotional development and had a "Madonna Complex." The latter of the two conditions pertains to an unrealistic search for the perfect unattainable, virginal, woman. Since he was unsuccessful in finding such a woman, in order to satisfy his basic urges he settled for relationships with women he didn't deem worthy of marrying.

The very good movie “The Couch” in which he brilliantly portrayed a psychopathic killer of women was made in 1962, when certain subjects could not be blatantly discussed in mainstream film. However, the studio officials nevertheless attempted to imply repressed homosexual desires within the script. Grant was not aware of this motivation until after he made the film and was mortified when this was disclosed, as he was not fond of the prevalent gay element, which insinuated the industry even at that time.

He was not exactly a homophobe, per se, but was rather intolerant of a particular activity that many gay men engage in. I agree that he alienated many, primarily due, both, to his intolerance and his overt feelings of superiority. He was a singer with the New York City Opera for half a decade, too, and being very talented had a tendency to look down on others, who he determined were not nearly as gifted as himself.

Re: Stop it already…

Well thank you for the insight, but he sure sounded like he was a miserable SOB.

Re: Stop it already…

Watching him in his classic film, you'd think he was a nice guy. I guess not.

Re: Stop it already…

Sad to say, I have to agree with your astute assessment... (weak little smile)

Re: Stop it already…

Since Mr Williams has passed away let's leave any speculation aside. No need in smearing his memory on what might be just rumors.

Re: Stop it already…

Accusations of Homophobia are nasty put-downs and you're nasty for using the unsuitable ploy to incite antagonism. I am not afraid of homosexuals and used the word prurient because it fits. Those who speculate about a person's sexuality do it for perverse kicks, regardless of how they try and cover that motivation up. I simply state the facts and do not attempt to whitewash anything. You are labeling me and are a hypocrite if you believe that da0 what you accuse me of being is any better than what others want to accuse Williams of having been. Take your vitriolic blather somewhere else where truly nasty people like yourself will enjoy trading barbs. I'm done dignifying further unpleasant comments from you, or any other similarly nasty people, with replies.

"You are labeling me and are a hypocrite if you believe that what you accuse me of being is any better than what others want to accuse Williams of having been."

Says pretty much everything right there...

Re: Stop it already…

As previously mentioned I'll not dignify your last irrational comment with a reply. This is just a final warning. If you do not cease and desist in flagrantly using this forum for something it is not intended, i.e. belligerently inciting antagonism, I'll have no other alternative than to call upon IMDb moderators to suspend you from commenting on these boards. You need to conduct yourself in a civilized manner. If you cannot debate issues without using name calling terminology, such as homophobia, clearly designed to bait people with, you will not be tolerated as a contributor here...

Re: Stop it already…

You forgot to add, "Now begone, before someone drops a house on you."

Sheesh.

Re: Stop it already…

Madam, you show your true colors, and perhaps some downright ignorance, in at least a few ways: First, your bullying behavior in threatening to get someone banned from the boards simply because they might disagree with your opinion. Second, the fact that you think someone can't be interested in both sexes. Third, and finally (for now), you think 'some' gay men indulge in any sex acts that some straight people don't. Almost laughable. Good day to you, Madam.

Re: Stop it already…

You, WaldoLydecker1, are an irrational loon who apparently believes that it's okay to attack people by calling them hateful names, like homophobic, for simply stating facts about someone they actually knew personally. I was a friend of Grant Williams and was just sharing my knowledge, based on things he told me. I was not the bully here. What the other poster did was in clear violation of IMDb rules, by baiting and inciting antagonism through hate speech. If you are unaware of the rules I advise you to look them up. I shall now block you, from bothering me further, as I did to him and everyone else who has added a nasty retort in an attempt to seem clever. I suggest you take your stupid, pretentious blather somewhere else where others - of your ilk - enjoy trying to intimidate each other...

Re: Stop it already…

And you, madam, are a pretentious twit and a complete and utter moron.

The worst thing that ever happened to the movies was when some pretentious twit decided they should be art.

Died of blood poisoning

This newspaper article from the time indicates he was being treated for blood poisoning. This is completely in line with the burst appendix mentioned by another commenter.
