Did the common cold wipe out the Neanderthals? Filmboards exclusive

We are discovering that having larger levels of Neanderthal genes leads to an increased mortality risk from the coronavirus COVID-19. COVID-19 isn't the only type of coronavirus, there are many, a couple of which can cause the common cold. Now the cold is not deadly to the human population of today, but it is quite deadly to some of our primate cousins, like the mighty gorilla, and given that Neanderthals were stronger than humans, i.e. mighty, we can safely assume the cold would have been deadly to them as well. I posit now that the common cold first emerged around 40,000 years ago, or was brought to Europe by early humans, and nearly wiped out the entire Neanderthal species. Only those Neanderthals who had bred with homo-sapiens and acquired our superior immune system were able to survive. Thus solves the mystery of the missing Neanderthals.

Nice imaginary scenario with a lot of plot holes.
