The Good Son : Did Henry want Mark as a friend?

Did Henry want Mark as a friend?

I know they were cousins but Henry is supposed to be a psychopath and psychopaths just want to kill people.

Is there a reason Henry didn't want to kill Mark when he first came over?
It really looked like he wanted a friend. But, are psychopaths even capable of having friends?

And why do you think he didn't kill his mom, dad, and sister? (Don't just say 'oh we wouldn't have a movie then.")

Re: Did Henry want Mark as a friend?

I will answer these questions according to my opinion. Someone else might have a different opinion. Yes I believe Henry was a psychopath and had homicidal tendencies. He was still a child though so what he actually could put into action was limited. His full capability would not be seen until another few years. Not sure if he would become one of those killers that only kills out of motivation and those around him or one that kills strangers for the thrill of it. As far as Mark goes I think at first Henry enjoyed his company and I think at first Henry might have believed Mark might share his twisted interests. Why else would he kill the dog and cause the accident in front of Mark. You would think doing these things in front of someone else would be risky and put yourself in jeopardy. I think that at first Henry liked his company but would of course turn on Mark any second because Henry did not form true human attachments. He was angry and jealous when Mark did not share his morbid interest and when Mark sided with his sister. I don't think he would have been able to kill Mark because Mark was on to him and this would have been harder. As far as why he had not killed off any other family members it was probably a mixture of time and necessity. As far as his sister goes though I am surprised she lasted till the time Mark got there. I guess the right timing to kill her never came about. As far as his parents he still needed them. I think he only had a superficial connection to them. His mother was useful for making him meals and buying him stuff. You could tell that she spoiled the little jerk. He was 12 and did not need her anymore except to do some things for him. If he had any love for her it was shallow. But he had no motivation to kill her until he felt threatened and knew she was going to make sure he was put away. I am sure if she had died Henry in several years would have killed his father to be the sole heir to everything. He would have killed his sister by then to. Anyway hope this helps to give some insight. Sorry in advance if it did not.

Re: Did Henry want Mark as a friend?

There's an author on fanfiction . net that has written 2 or 3 stories from this movie where Mark befriends Henry and ends up joining him for morbid acts. It's a disturbing, but interesting read for anyone who wonders what could have happened if they stayed friends. The author's username is 90thegeneral09
