Sleeping Beauty : Dark and surreal

Dark and surreal

What stood out in Sleeping Beauty in my eyes is its look and mood. The colors have a dark shade, brightness is unequivocally avoided for most of the film, whereas the mood is chilling at times.

Maleficent is a marvelous creation, it is a testament to the character's durability how she's been able to stand throughout the years to the point of having a live-action film made about her. Sleeping Beauty's major fault lies in the lack of interesting heroic figures to counteract the villain. Aurora, as beautifully drawn as she is, lacks a firm characterization. It's up to the fairies to carry the film which isn't always successful.

Re: Dark and surreal

I liked the darkness of Maleficent in this which tops Angelina's Jolie's more ambivalent portrayal. In fact the character Stephan takes over the villain's role in the live action version.

We don't talk about that version......
