Health & Fitness : Covid is going to explode after Thanksgiving

Infections way up already + most people still planning to have a Thanksgiving + half the country thinks masks are evil = a million super-spreader events all at once. Get ready to die, folks.

There’s really nothing anyone can do about it anymore. When a large sect of the country doesn’t take a pandemic seriously what the other section does won’t matter. You need the overwhelming majority on the same page to reduce the spread.

You’re also never going to convince people to avoid celebrating a holiday the way they’re accustomed too. People are inherently selfish and have decided their personal normalcy is more important than the big picture.

A few months ago people were being shamed and arrested for house parties, and now everyone went and had one, as the pandemic has gotten worse. Either we see a massive increase in infections, or this virus isn't as bad as we have believed.

Around 136,000 new U.S. coronavirus cases were reported yesterday, a substantial decline from last week. However, as David Leonhardt explained in today’s edition of The Morning newsletter, case numbers and deaths might have been artificially reduced in the last few days because of a slowdown in testing and reporting around Thanksgiving. Hospitalization is a better indicator: 91,635 people were in hospitals with Covid-19 as of Nov. 28, almost twice as many as there were on Nov. 1, and triple the number on Oct. 1.
