Obi-Wan Kenobi : Comic book territory

Comic book territory

I wasn't sure what to expect from this show. I was leery of it, but the trailers were well-made. As a fan of (most of) the franchise, I was still going to check it out.

This show did exactly what I feared. After Obi-Wan maimed Anakin, he peaced out. He disappeared. He was not planet hopping doing missions for people. He never met Leia and never fought Vader between the two movies. He hid and watched (Luke). He was not aware a resistance existed, let alone fought with them.

When Leia contacted him in ANH, that was the first he heard of the Rebellion. Just watch the movie, you can see it on his face. He saw that as an opportunity to get back in the game. Help out; just let he did in this series after hiding for 10 years. His passion was reignited. He was making his last stand.

That being said, I did enjoy the show. It showed Obi-Wan as a broken and defeated man, which makes perfect sense given after he watched the fall of the Jedi and Republic. Baby Leia was cute and funny, Reva was enjoyable after a slow start (once she tried to kill Vader), and Vader was as imposing as he should be.

Vader is pure hate. He is angry and hateful. A force of nature that serves no other purpose than to inflict pain on those who impose him. You can actually see this guy defeating Palpatine and being the most powerful person in the universe. The Marvel comics do an excellent job of portraying that. I'm super behind, but the ones I have read really showcase him as a villain. None of this "poor Anakin" crap, but the villain we all know him as. This show replicates that perfectly.

But I just can't ignore that comic book, novel cartoon - some of which I like - territory feel. You watch the old movies and just know this didn't happen. Obi Wan never met Leia. He didn't

Re: Comic book territory

But they have to fill the show with something. I liked it better when all we knew was that he had fought in the "Clone Wars" with her father and was now a weird hermit. The more the details are filled in the less appealing it gets. People who read and write Wookieepedia entries probably love all the detail but I think it is too much. It is the storytelling equivalent of how so many scenes in the later films were overcrowded with CGI spaceships whizzing around shooting lasers at each other.

Re: Comic book territory

That something has to be what we got (something that contradicts the OT)? Honestly, Vader shouldn't even have been in this show; and definitely not Leia.

Don't get me started on how disappointing seeing The Clone Wars.

It was either contradict the original or show an old man cooking soup in a cave for six episodes. I can understand Vader being there, even though it cheapens their reunion in Star Wars, but Leia was a stretch. I don't really care for precocious children in TV/film anyway.

Yeah, no. There's limitless possibilities. He lives on a planet run by Jabba. He lives on a planet where criminals routinely come and go. The comics have done this for years:

Re: Comic book territory

The problem with that is The Book of Boba Fett had already done a similar story. Even had the same wookiee in it. They needed to get Obi Wan off Tatooine.

Re: Comic book territory

"They needed to get Obi Wan off Tatooine."

No, they didn't.

Re: Comic book territory

I wish Star Wars would just fucking die and stay dead already

Re: Comic book territory

It also clarified that Obi Wan wasn't lying to Luke when he said that "Darth Vader Killed Your Father".A part of Obi may of thought that Anikan was still in there, but was being over riden by the Vader personal, and that really made it difficult to finish Vader.
