Saoirse Ronan : Cast Saoirse

Cast Saoirse

Which movie would you like Saoirse to star?

Here are my ideas:

- I think she would be a great Amelia Earhart in a biopic, of course it would have to be when she is older, because she is too young right now.

-I would love to see her in a Tim Burton movie, since she likes to play different characters.

-I think she would have a lot to work with as a depressing character in a Lars Von Trier film.

-A comedia with Kristen Wigg, it would be fun to see her work with her idol.

Re: Cast Saoirse

I'm not imaginative like th b68 at.
I do hope she gets to work with Kristen Wiig because she wants to. Also with Helen Mirren because Mirren wants to work with her, and Meryl Streep because I want them to work together.
Otherwise, I like to be surprised.
But there is one, though it may never be made, "On Chesil Beach," based on the novel by Ian McEwan with the screenplay written by him.
Saoirse got her big break as Briony Tallis in McEwan's "Atonement."
McEwan has said whenever he thinks of his Briony character now he always thinks of Saoirse and he wants her in On Chesil Beach. But the screenplay has lagged for several years. Carey Mulligan was originally attached but she's 30 now and the character has to be in her early 20's.

Re: Cast Saoirse

I just read the plot for this book and it sounds great! Just one question, considering this is the same author of Atonement, does it ends well?

Re: Cast Saoirse

No, but no one dies.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Well, at least i will be prepared when i read it.

Re: Cast Saoirse

It's a wonderful novel, but much smaller in scale, basically a two-person drama covering one day with narrative flashbacks.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Oh, I love this book, that would be a great character for her. Ian McEwan´s such a brilliant author.

Re: Cast Saoirse

you got your wish!
Let's hope she keeps the role

Re: Cast Saoirse

I'm ecstatic. From what I'm reading it sounds much more solidified than the Carey Mulligan-Sam Mendez version ever did. Saoirse has said they start filming later this year.

Re: Cast Saoirse

I could see her in a Lars Von Trier movie since the "pure and innocent young woman has horrible things happen to her for 2-3 hours" genre seems to be something he enjoys.

Re: Cast Saoirse

I thought of your reasoning as why I wouldn't want her in a von Trier film

Re: Cast Saoirse

Wasn't necessarily saying it ought to happen, but that I could see him wanting to cast her

Re: Cast Saoirse

Why Jlent? I think it would be a baity role and she would be able to upload her suffering acting skills.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Actors definitely want to work with him and, I guess, most appreciate the experience. But John C. Reilly walked off the set and Bjork hated the experience. I have yet to see a performance in one of his films that struck me as extraordinary. It's all about him and he seems to be a bit of a sadist. Not sure the end results of all the emotional wringing make for a special performance.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Wow i didn't know about the Bjork and Reilly thing, thats too bad, i am disapointed

Re: Cast Saoirse

Yeah, Bjork was traumatized and O'Reilly walked off when they killed a donkey just for the cinematic experience.
On the other hand, Stellan Skarsgård has appeared in six Von Trier films and German actor Udo Kier holds the record with 10 appearances.

Re: Cast Saoirse

In my opinion Von Trier has sort of turned into a troll. A lot of his recent work (Antichrist, Nympho) seems designed just to get a rise out of people and be shocking. I wouldn't be particularly thrilled if I heard he was working with her, but if it was a movie like his earlier work it could turn out well.

Re: Cast Saoirse

What about Emily Watson in Breaking the Waves? She was excellent in that. That was a great movie by Lars von Trier.

Re: Cast Saoirse

And you think that Saoirse has played many of those kinds of characters?

Re: Cast Saoirse

My hobby horse:

Cast Saoirse as the character Hanna in a new Jason Bourne movie. Hanna has a similar background story to Bourne and I think with a good script a mash-up could be a winner. For example it was never revealed who Hanna's biological parents were.

The Players of The Game are the scum of the earth.

Re: Cast Saoirse

That sounds interesting. But wasn't the woman who have birth to Hanna her real mother? I thought they had used her egg when creating Hanna.

Re: Cast Saoirse

I can't remember whether they said they used Johanna's own egg or if she was simply a surrogate. The film was ambiguous about Hanna's biological mother, even dropping hints that it might have been Marissa Wiegler. So I think there's some wriggle room there.

All we know for sure is that Erik wasn't her biological father and the father was not named.

In my mind the ideal for a new Bourne/Hanna film would be Jason Bourne as the biological father and Nicky Parsons as the biological mother. But that would be a bit of a squeeze because of the age gap between them and Nicky being quite young when Hanna was conceived. So really the time lines don't match unless they age up Nicky by five years or so.

Although I've heard a rumour that Nicky has been killed off in the new 'Bourne' movie that is currently being made so that would make things awkward.

The Players of The Game are the scum of the earth.

Re: Cast Saoirse

There were moments in the movie when i thought Marissa could be her mother, but the idea of she donating her egg seemed weird.I am not familiar with the Bourne series, so i can't give my opinion about the matching time lines.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Astute observation Poetswan. This board's activity really started to heat up when Hanna debuted. mysteryfan was posting even before then, and jlent and I came along with some others who're still with us and post occasionally. Some of the regulars have disappeared. We had a lot of discussion about the film.

If I recall correctly, the man who wrote the script created it when he was still a writing student in college at one of the Canadian schools. Marissa was indeed her mother in the earliest version of Hanna. My guess is the producers/director probably felt audiences would have reacted negatively if she killed her mom at the end of the film.

Actually, if you changed the ending, Saoirse and Cate could've had a bunch of interesting scenes together. It might have become a more complex film in a psychological sense.

Re: Cast Saoirse

It would have been so much better with Marissa as her mother, like you said, so many interesting scenes! What a missed oportunity.

BTW Brooklyn will finally come to my town It will premiere in only one theater, this friday, and i will be there. Thought I don't think it will get a big audience, because its the same day as the deadpool premiere.

Re: Cast Saoirse

That's great. Give me the link to your local cinema so I can check it out along with the listing. Do they have really large. screens? You've going to love seeing it on the big screen.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Yes, they are really large screens. I was mistaken, the premiere is thursday not friday, here is the link: http://www.cinepolis.com.br/programacao/cinema.php?CIDADE=2&cc=2 you have to click where is written 11/2 à 17/02/2016

Re: Cast Saoirse

Thanks. Brooklyn has been here in Southeast Florida since the third week of November, and it's booked through this Thursday. I'll have to check tomorrow to see if the film retains its locations through this coming weekend and beyond.

I'd love for you to post about your experiences when you have had the chance to see in on a big screen.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Just checked out some of the images of the venue. It looks very nice Poetswan.

Re: Cast Saoirse

That would just be really odd and out of left field. In a big movie like Bourne, tying it in with a small movie not a lot of people remember. I know it's probably just a fanfic thing you think about for fun, though.

Re: Cast Saoirse

I was going to say first that I wanted to see her in an old-fashioned romantic drama, but that's pretty much what she just did with Brooklyn. Maybe an old-fashioned screwball comedy type thing?

I could see her playing aristocratic characters frequently in the future. She seems to have the kind of face for it, especially now that she's aged.

She should stay away from the Marvel-esq blockbusters and keep doing good movies with good directors. I'd like to see her work with lots of top shelf directors like Spielberg, Eastwood, the Coens, Paul Greengrass and I'd especially like it if she becomes a Wes Anderson regular on his future films.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Another Wes movie would be amazing, he is my favorite director.

Re: Cast Saoirse

I think a comedy would be great and really round out her resume. She's got big dramatic theater roles coming up, in film with The Seagull and onstage in the Crucible, and a goofball role, maybe with her hero Kristen Wiig, would be wonderful.
As for royalty, I don't know if Mary Queen of Scotts is still in the picture. I just googled it and couldn't find word one about it since October 2013.
The big directors should come. They're already there. Spielberg signed off on Saoirse for his production of The Lovely Bones that Peter Jackson directed. Wes Anderson coming to see her at the New York Film Festival is a good sign of future work together though it's hard to predict that wild bird.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Ladies and Gentlemen, a few totally reasonable suggestions:

- Since Helen Mirren has mentioned over and over again with that Grandma pride how much she loves Sersh and dreams of working together, same as Cate Blanchett, somebody, please get to it. There have to be at least a hundred great inter-generational dramas or comedies going around for them to play grandma-mother-daughter. And let's add Vanessa Redgrave, because of course and because Saoirse is also inheriting from her. This seems like a job for James L. Brooks or something.

- Something with the McDonagh brothers.

- Some people have commented that a young Hillary Clinton and Saoirse had similar looks. I read once that a movie about her early years was being developed. Whatever you might think of her, that is certainly a meaty role for her to take. I think it would work better as a HBO-style TV Movie, to get her closer to the E in that triple crown of acting.

- Finally coming around to that Mary Queen of Scots movie. Fun fact, you know who played that role and Nina in The Seagull in the previous major film adaptations? Vanessa Redgrave.

- Some new approach on The Troubles, that is neither cliché or melodramatic.

- And finally, the motherload. Did you know that over 800,000 women fought in the Soviet Army during World War II? In all branches? And that there were ace fighte b68 r pilots in that bunch? Someone should adapt the stories of Yekaterina Budanova and Lydia Litvyak (links below), female Nazi killers and friends. Let's check the boxes:

1) Set in World War II-
2) In the criminally underrepresented Eastern Front
3) Two *beep* strong, real female characters
4) Any of which could be played convincingly by Saoirse (Lydia's face is more similar, though Yekaterina had the striking blue eyes)
5) Characters who had rough upbringings and yet accomplished badass things while very young
6) Characters which were also very complex and colorful
7) Could lead to a sprawling series of movies on these women, including the Night Witches, who broke havoc over Nazis with obsolete biplanes
8) Seriously, why hasn't this been made into a movie yet?

I guess it would be the proper thing to do to have one of them played by a Russian actress, while Saoirse could be the English-Language markets "catch". In the unlikely case some producer is snooping around here, for *beep*'s sake, feel free to "steal" this idea as long as you make damn sure Saoirse is cast as one of these women. And also, have Katherine Bigelow or Ava Du Vernay directing.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Saoirse with Vanessa, Helen and Cate would be epic! I really like your idea about the WW II pilots, but i think its unlikely that producers from US or UK would accept to make a movie about sovietic soldiers.

Re: Cast Saoirse

F|UCKING. YES. TO THIS!

Ugh, no thanks! I despise Shillary with every fiber of my soul.

- Some new approach on The Troubles, that is neither cliché or melodramatic.

You know what? I've actually thought about this too. What I had in mind was that she would star in a film directed by Steve McQueen (whose directorial debut Hunger was about the Troubles) set in Belfast in the early '70s, where Saoirse Ronan plays one of the daughters of a Republican family who is also an informant for the MI5/MI6. Frequent Steve McQueen collaborator Michael Fassbender would play her handler, and Chiwetel Ejiofor could play a British officer whose unit is deployed to Belfast. Lupita Nyong'o could play Fassbender's colleague within the MI5/MI6 (her and Ejiofor have also worked with McQueen). It would be similar to both Shadow Dancer and '71.

Finally, cadelano, let me say that I adore your suggestion of Saoirse Ronan playing Lydia Litvyak or Yekaterina Budanova! However, because both of our ideas are so good, we'll sadly never see them. The odds were always microscopic anyway, but still.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Hi!

Ugh, no thanks! I despise Shillary with every fiber of my soul.

I see your issue with Hillary, but it is precisely because she is such a complex, duplicitous character, that it would be great to see Sersh's take on her. Just remember how great Julianne Moore was as Palin in Game Change.

I'm guessing a movie about the Soviet ace women could get financed as a multi-country European coproduction, thus Saoirse could attract a whole swath of investors and distributors for the non European market. On the other hand, Russia just produced its own 30M Stalingrad movie on their own... so if they wanted to do this one, they certainly could.

I love the idea of a McQueen take on the Troubles with Sersh as a traitor, which is that mother of a role for any actor, involving a *beep* of work with facial expressions. I would love to see this one as a gut-wrenching, Irish Love Actually, bringing, somehow, Fassbender (the dad?), the Gleesons (uncle and brother?), Broadbent and Walters (the grandparents?), Neeson (friendly local cop?), Farrell (IRA leader 1), and Daniel Day-Lewis (IRA supraleader). Steal these ideas if you are reading Mr. McQueen.

Yeah, I see what you mean by that.

Which sucked, allegedly.

bringing, somehow, Fassbender (the dad?)

No, I imagined him being her contact in the MI5. Kind of like how Clive Owen is Andrea Riseborough's contact in Shadow Dancer.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Working with McQueen is a major honor for anyone. He´s uber talented and is in total control of what he is doing. I hope she can work with him in the future, i really dont mind the project. Just to work with him would be glorious.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Just read that the sequel to the seminal Blade Runner has a Jan.12, 2018 release date. Helmed by Sicario director Denis Villeneuve and starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, it's due to begin principal photography in July.
No other cast have been announced as of yet (as far I can ascertain), so I'd love to see Saoirse in that.

Re: Cast Saoirse

It would be great for Saoirse to be in the sequel of this classic movie!

Re: Cast Saoirse

Me too! The reports state that it will take place some decades after the original's setting. Gosling should recommend her for a role there. And since Villeneuve has introduced some pretty great female characters in his filmography, it stands to reason that there should be a female role that is not "The Girl".

Re: Cast Saoirse

eah, but not sure she can enter this project due to her schedule. I think her year of 2016 is full already, the play in the first semester and shooting two films..

"How is it possible to feel nostalgia for a world I never knew?" - The Motorcycle Diaries

Re: Cast Saoirse

The Blade Runner sequel sounds like a bad idea to me and is completely unnecessary. Not particularly hoping she or anyone I'm a fan of gets cast in it.

Re: Cast Saoirse

So major Kudos to whoever predicted that On Chesil Beach casting spot on... though, of course, if that person happens to be her agent, then it doesn't count.

Since we already had one pretty great casting guess here, I'm gonna go ahead and take a wild guess. Have you heard about the TV adaptation of Jonathan Franzen's Purity? Well, Daniel Craig will star and Scott Rudin will produce in a limited, 20 episode run (though that should be good for two seasons and is kind of a stretch considering the book is around 500 pages): http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/daniel-craig-purity-jonathan-franzen-showtime-drama-1201705677/

Since the lead character in the book is a young woman trying to discover her past with the help of a mysterious tech-wiz, to be played by Craig, it seems a rather fitting role for Sersh. Now, considering that Rudin is also producing Lady Bird and The Crucible, it wouldn't surprise me if he would consider Ronan for the role, being exactly the kind of interesting project that projects her 5b4 ... and also pushing her closer to that EGOT. On the other hand, the plot does sound very similar to Mr. Robot...

And for some additional casting ideas:

1) Zelda Fitzgerald in a biopic about her and Francis Scott Fitzgerald, you know, the writer of Tender is the Night among others. I've read once that instead of trying to adapt his novels, they should totally make a movie about their extraordinary and sad lives. A perfect title for this movie would be The Beautiful and the Damned, but apparently it was already taken by this novel from the 30s.

2) Franchise time: So, Tom Cruise, crazy as he is, has been producing and fronting some of the finest popcorn movies in the last five years. The guy knows how to surround himself with some damn clever and talented people. At the same time, as his priority is the quality of the movie, he has had no problems allowing Emily Blunt and Rebecca Ferguson to steal the scenes in his last two movies. Well, Top Gun 2 is getting made, and since the plot will be about him being the mentor of the last generation of jet fighter pilots, against the rise of the drones, it would be a lot of fun to see her as the pupil/maverick/pain-in-the-ass. I know many of you will think that a project like that is below her skills, but every über-talented actor has done franchise-popcorn films (it pays handsomely after all), and if you're going to make one of those, do it w 5b4 ith someone who has 30 years experience doing silly fun.

Re: Cast Saoirse

I haven't heard about this book Purity yet, do you recommend it? I think Saoirse going to TV right now would be a really strange move, since her movie carrer is skyrocketing right now, but if its just 20 episodes and its with Daniel Craig and Scott Rudin producing, why not?

I just read a little bit about the Fitzgerald and Wow their story would make a great film, maybe even a miniserie. Now i want to see it, great sugestion👍🏻
Top gun 2 would be fun, Saoirse needs a blockbuster to become an A-list actress in Hollywood

Re: Cast Saoirse

Read ´Save me the Waltz. It´s a wonderful book written by Zelda that has many parallels to her real life with Scott. Saoirse would be great playing the main character, it´s such a nice story and character.

Re: Cast Saoirse

Thanks for the recommendation, i will definitely check it out.

Re: Cast Saoirse

I think the Purity project sounds great. I mean, I´m a fan of all Franzen´s book (havent read Purity yet), but at least trust the material and the people involved so far. Id love to see her playing the main characters, she´s supposed to be leading a film with all that talent, to be honest.

Re: Cast Saoirse

I'd love to see her in all of them except for Lars b68 Von Trier's because she's gonna have to go nude :) which I really wouldn't want.
