Serves her right for exercising her freedom of speech? She should be imprisoned for 9 years because she kneeled during a song? If you are a good American then you support free speech. The real reason Brittney Griner is being held and punished so severely by Russia is they are upset at United States support of Ukraine against the Russian invasion. Supporting Griner's imprisonment is tantamount to siding with Russia in their war against the Ukraine.

I have mixed feelings on this.

On the one hand…
She should know the laws of the country she is traveling to and needs to obey them.
Getting busted was her own doing.

On the other…
Sentenced to 9 yrs. for medical pot, or whatever it was that is pot related, seems a bit too harsh for a harmless drug.
3-5 months, yes months and not years, seems more adequate and fair.

Lol, she is so very tall. There's video footage of her open suitcase at airport security and it appears she had in it a shipping box, square in shape, but only slightly smaller in volume than a shoebox, possibly equal to one. That box contained quite a number of vape cartridges. They're very small and the box appeared to be full of them.

Like 7 or 8 years ago, when vape cartridges were new to me, I knew a guy who'd truck out to Colorado and drive back with that much or less, and he said it was enough to get him charged with Intent to Distribute here back then, as I believe she was charged with (or the equivalent of) there. Still, the max time wouldn't have been more than a year then, here, afaik. He never got charged or even caught.

It's awful the WNBA players get paid such a small fraction here of the ~million dollars they can get paid for a shorter season in Russia. She did know their laws, though.
