Re: Books you’re reading at the moment ?

Good question. Either that or Dracula. I couldn't get into the Rice novels after Interview. Or Twilight. I did enjoy The Empire of Fear by Stableford.

Re: Books you’re reading at the moment ?

Have you ever read "Dracula's Demeter" ?

If not then it is written by Doug Lamoreux and it is the story of what happened aboard the ship (The Demeter) that transported Count Dracula's boxes of Earth (and unbeknownst to the ship's crew, Count Dracula himself) to England.

Re: Books you’re reading at the moment ?

No, I haven't but it sounds interesting. One of the more chilling small scenes of the novel.

Whatever looks interesting. If I get bored, I find another or alternate between books.
Sooo today..
I started reading Celtic Tales: Fairy Tales and Stories of Enchantment from Ireland, Scotland, Brittany and Wales

It caught my interest in the non fiction section. I have no idea why it was in that section. But anyway, I wanted to compare Celtic Fsiry Tales to the ones I grew up reading and loved.

So far, I enjoy the humor. The book is divided into parts. The first part is about Tricksters. They aren't scary stories. They are humorous fairy tales. So far, every story I've read has a happy ending for the main character. I laughed at loud at the ending of The Kildare Pooka

Then I started reading Aldous Huxley's book Island. Island is pretty funny story actually.

And lastly, CLEP The Official Study Guide.

Re: Books you’re reading at the moment ?

Just finished The Battle of Life by Charles Dickens.

I am nearly finished reading Emphyrio by Jack Vance.

I will be reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens next, which I try to do every year this time.

I'll also be reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twin again.

I just finished Scaramouche by Sabatini. I haven't seen the movie yet, although apparently the stories are somewhat different.

Next up is Unconquered by Swanson. This novel was also made into a movie with Gary Cooper as the star.

Re: Books you’re reading at the moment ?

I finished up Unconquered. It is a bit of a pulp fiction from the 1940's, but it is interesting because it takes place at the start of Pontiac's War in 1763. Pontiac's War was a frontier war, where the Indian tribes banded together and hoped to force the British east of the mountains. They took several forts but failed at Fort Pitt at the forks of the Ohio. A fair amount of the latter part of the book takes place at Fort Pitt. 7

Then I went through Bernard Cornwell's lastest addition to the Sharpe series - Sharpe's Assassin which takes place immediately after the battle of Waterloo. Sharpe has to take a fort and then goes to Paris to clear things up for the Allies entrance. The usual swashbuckling fair. Not quite as strong as the Sharpe novels revolving around the big battles. 8

I just finished up "The Scarlet Pimpernel", by Baroness Orzy (1905) - This novel is actually told through the eyes of The Scarlet Pimpernel's wife. 8

Next up, I have come across a copy of "The Big Sky" (1947) by A.B.Guthrie, Jr. From which a movie with Kirk Douglas in it was made.

Re: Books you’re reading at the moment ?

No Plan B by Lee and Andrew Childs

Re: Books you’re reading at the moment ?

That surprises me. I'd have thought you were reading Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck.

Re: Books you’re reading at the moment ?

I'm almost done with The Centauri Device by M. John Harrison. A sometimes frustrating novel, it was written at the tail end of the New Wave of SF in the 70s and it shows, as the style of the novel often times overwhelms the story itself, much like the works of Delany, Ballard and Moorcock. The author himself later described it as the crappiest thing he ever wrote.
