Alice is pretty long, isn't it? I've only seen the movie and went on the Disneyland ride

Re: Books

It's a normal size. Did you know it is often also the sequel attached?

Re: Books

I didn't. I used to go to the library a lot and I remember this book about a tiny horse

I loved it but I can't remember the name

Re: Books

I remember a book in an old, used book store with a picture of a cat carrying its baby, an illustration.

Some things stay with us

The thing about this horse was it was real small, like a toy and I think it flew

Re: Books

Oh good God, I couldn't list even a fraction. I'm a voracious reader, and have several glass-front bookcases, absolutely filled with books, sometimes 2 deep, sometimes books on top of books. I enjoy reading actual books and not kindles or anything like that.

I love biographies and history the most. Looking at just the single bookcase across from me, a few titles are:

Mary Baker Eddy

Leak

My Fight is Your Fight

Mary, Queen of Scots

A Genius for War

Patton

Evolution

Daring Greatly

Cleopatra

Breaking the Surface

Katharine Hepburn (including Me, My Life, Kate Remembered <–I highly recommend this one!)

Broken

The Six Wives of Henry VIII

The Princes in the Tower

Doris Day: Her Own Story

"Life is tough. Get a helmet." – Candace Owens
"Not today, Satan!" – Blaire White

Re: Books

I haven't read any of those but I almost exclusively read non fiction

Confucius

Re: Books

Lots of Sci-Fi. Probably my favorite is Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy "trilogy".

😺 Schrodinger's Cat walks into a bar, and doesn't. 🤨 Let's go, Brandon! 🤨 Try that in a small town.

Re: Books

Yes! Yes! Yes! Loved Hitchhiker's Guide (book and movie both).

Do you read any Terry Pratchett? I have pretty much all of the Discworld series. That's my favourite reading that is fiction. One of the best fiction books I've read is Good Omens.

Re: Books

Best seller

When I worked in a book store the only book I read while there was The Lovely Bones, a customer recommended it and it was good but heartbreaking

Re: Books

I did the same thing with Robin Cook and Alison Weir. One good book that got me hooked and I hunted down everything else of theirs and read and read until my eyes bled.

Re: Books

Indeed. Given he was a practicing physician in Boston, he wrote about a lot of local facilities, and used very real and precise medical procedures to enhance his horror thrillers. If you have even a small background in the medical field, his writing is even that much more disturbing.

Re: Books

I was like that with Ann Rule

My dad used to love to read but stopped. One of Ann's books got him to read again

Re: Books

Too many to count. Sci-fi, philosophy, biographies, horror, drama, health. I don't like romances.

If I had to pick one book that made a lasting impression on me, it would have to be 'Look Younger Live Longer' by Gayelord Hauser. Although it was written years ago, his common sense health tips have stood the test of time and kept me pretty damn healthy.

Re: Books

Sounds like a good recommendation, thank you, NZer!

I have such a funny one by Davy Jones. It's called,
"They Made a Monkee Out Of Me".
So many interesting stories, and told with humor.

Re: Books

Thirteen Days in September:

This is a really good look into the inside politics of the Middle East and all its intertwined intricacies, going into broad detail about the leaders of Egypt, Israel, and the United States.

President Jimmy Carter here gets a lot of historical redemption about resolving perpetual hostilities, given credit where it is due. A richer look of Sadat and Begin is also welcome, not to mention, First Lady Rosalynn Carter's efforts to keep fragile negotiations from stalling. This is an easy page-turning reader.

Re: Books

Sounds interesting. Politics is something I'll never understand

Confucius

Re: Books

All three countries, their policies and leaders had to swallow their pride;

Israel - give up land it had taken from Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon in counter invasions during wars in return for recognition of Israel by Muslim, Arabic Egypt and world legitimacy;

Egypt - reclaim their eastern Sinai border from Israel and stop being a future military threat in the Middle East in exchange for the Suez Canal being under their control;

United States - realize that it's better to delegate authority to other people in good faith and confidence, despite being a world superpower, in favor of having a new trading ally in Egypt and the loss of Cold War adversary Soviet military presence there through peaceful means.

It is a moment, however brief and fleeting the feeling was, that things could actually get done in spite of how incredibly unlikely it is - hope is real.

Thank you for explaining that ~ That is something to hope and pray for
