Woody Allen : Best film?

Best film?

What would you rate as his best film

Re: Best film?

Crimes and Misdemeanors.

Re: Best film?

That's a good one, objectively I think it would be either Annie Hall or Manhattan.

Re: Best film?

From a huge woody fan, I couldn't agree more with your favorite if his. Crimes and Misdemeanors I think is as flawless, and perfectly written, acted and filmed, but beyond all that is a story that's so amazingly layered and complex, it really speaks to so many different ideas and realities of life, love, death, religions and atheists, favoritism from status/wealth or the disadvantages from a lack there of, philosophy, and much much more, and it's combines all those elements, which is life in its most real sense, and all those elements, the characters who embody some of those traits and the different plots lines are all so perfectly inter webbed together in 5b4 a perfect symphonic semblance. And his long time genius casting agent, who's name slips me at the moment could not have matched actors to the roles of the two brothers played by Martin Landau and other actor who's name also slips me right now...I mean they look so much alike which just makes their amazing performances that much more believable. Woody Allen, who not only has said he wish he could re-shoot C&M to focus solely on the dramatic aspects, also believes he's yet to make 'a masterpiece'...I not only disagree with that humble statement of his, I'm very thankful he never get his wish in changing what is his masterpiece in my opinion, and a truly perfect movie from each and every angle. And then there's Annie Hall, Manhattan, Stardust Memories, Hanna and Her Sisters...and all of which can be argued, quite deservingly, as masterpieces too. Thank God for Woody and even more thanks for his longevity genes!

Re: Best film?

Annie Hall

Re: Best film?

Best is all subjective and with Allen, favorites are eclectic. It depends on what one connects with and many wouldn't connect to his films at all.

I enjoy Annie Hall, Interiors, The Purple Rose Of Cairo, Radio Days and Crimes and Misdemeanors. I feel Allen peaked with C&M and it was a complete encapsulation of his style and themes that had gone before. Never before had he been so profound.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: BEST film?…

Sleeper (1973)!! FOLLOWED by Take the Money and RUN (1969)! Also, The PURPLE Rose of Cairo (1985).
