1883 : Best Review of 1883 ☺

Best Review of 1883 ☺

Just finished the last episode.
The series began really good and then turned into a soap opera.
With many historical mistakes in it. ☻
What a pity!
Don't want to lament over it cause laughed so much about this great customer review:

You get a monologue and you get a monologue and you get a monologue!

Warning: Spoilers

A solid but mildly annoying series this was. The acting was pretty much on-point for everyone. Even Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were better than I expected they would be. Sam Eliot was the real star of this show though. I'm glad they didn't try and soften up the violence and language. It gave a more realistic feel to what the brutality of the trail must have been. Our main character is a wild and untamed girl named Elsa. Elsa has big dreams of seeing the world and exploring the Oregon Trail on their way to the Pacific Northwest. She is very impetuous much to the worry of her father. But even when many of the group start to die by the dozens, Elsa still finds time to placate and monologue about grass and leaves and the sky and dirt.

As the group progresses along the trail, people continue to die by the boatload. Elsa doesn't seem to mind as she's too busy looking at the grass and monologuing about life and colors and dreams. Seriously, this girl monologues more than a bad guy in an action movie. She does this 3 or 4 times each episode and it really starts to become annoying. She's 18 and she thinks she's a "woman" now and that she knows love so she shags the very first male that shows interest in her. Hopefully he doesn't get killed along the way! Uh oh! He does. More monologues about color ensue. About a week after her cowboy dies she meets an Indian man who she races with her horse and in the middle of a dadgum tornado she stops screaming so she can make out with him. What??? Oh and she shags him too. Hey guess what dad? I'm a Cherokee now! Just like that!

Elsa and those who are left (seriously it's about 12 people left) continue on to Oregon where she says she will return to her Cherokee "husband" after the winter. Ok then. They get ambushed by Lakota Indians and she gets shot in the gut. She acts like she's had worse bee stings in her life. Her dad is like: "Yeah she's going to die." So her dad accepts this but tells his wife they will lie to their daughter so she can have a good last few days alive. Soon though the daughters fever breaks and everyone is hopeful. She's going to make it! Yeah about that. They meet some other Indians who are friendly and the chief tells Tim McGraw about a beautiful place to make a home not far from there. Unfortunately the wagon train would take a week to get there and since little miss shagalot won't make it in that time, her dad takes her on a horse so they can get there sooner. I'm not sure where Elsa realizes that she's not doing so hot but in between her going in and out of consciousness, she tells her dad: "Hey, you lied to me I am going to die." Yeah big surprise there.

So Elsa's mother and brother say goodbye to her as her and her father leave for this mystery destination which somehow they magically know exactly where it is because the chief told them to "follow the ridge." They end up in a beautiful-looking valley with trees and the daughter tells her dad to stop because she knows where she wants to be buried now. So they do and they share a heart-warming daughter-father moment where Elsa babbles about birds eating worms after the rain and then she dies.

Fast forward to a year from now and Sam Eliot's character has made it to the ocean as he promised his dead wife he would. He says: "Isn't it beautiful?" and then shoots himself in the head as I'm sure his wife would have wanted him to. It then shows how Sam Eliot's buddy and his new wife did indeed make it to Oregon. It doesn't however show if the rest of Elsa's family made it. What??? Wasn't that the point of the whole show??? Then we get one last emo monologue from Elsa about death and how beautiful death is. Uh, ok. She rides off with her Cherokee hunk and credits roll. This could have been much, much better without the annoying aspect of Elsa's character.

Someone cant get over the fact that they were rejected for a job at Rotten Tomatoes.

Talk about the series or go back to the Soapbox, flat head.

Re: Best Review of 1883 ☺

"It doesn't however show if the rest of Elsa's family made it. What???"

I'm pretty sure that 1883 was a prequel to the smash hit Yellowstone. And that Elsa's family are the ancestors to the Yellowstone family dynasty who founded themselves in Montana territory.

So the assumption is they would never had gone all the way to the coast, and dropped out somewhere near Montana.

But yes, would have been better to get clarity in the finale on that aspect.

Yep, the series 1883 is a prequel to Yellowstone.
Everybody who knows the "smash hit" Yellowstone knows that, as the customer reviewer knew it.
Your "assumption" is correct.
