The House That Screamed : Best Murder Scene Ever…

Best Murder Scene Ever…

In the greenhouse:

Slow motion, hand covers the girl's mouth, superimposed image of the knife stabbing her, blood spurting between the killer's fingers...all set to a slow, haunting, piano piece...then the girl crumples to the ground...

Pure artistry. Wish more horror movies had scenes this good.

I'd never seen The House That Screamed before, and bought it as part of a two-disc collection hosted by Elvira. The other movie was Man-Eaters Of Hydra, which wasn't near as good. Now, THTS is one of my favorite horror movies ever, and everyone I show it to walks away liking it.

"and everyone I show it to walks away liking it."

Yes, it's pretty amazing, isn't it? If you scour the internet, it is hard to find a bad review of this movie. Yet, it has fallen into obscurity and it's one of those films that few have ever heard of.

Re: Best Murder Scene Ever…

really were they watching this movie? this movie is worthless. it didn't entertain me at all bc nothing ever happened. it might be the most empty and worthless movie ever made in fact it has to be. we get zero character development and they just do the same thing over and over again with the people in charge using private school behavior against the girls.

I agree. This stunning scene never ceases to amaze me. I just hope you have it in Widescreen & in Spanish. A truly magnificent movie. Once seen, never forgotten.

Re: Best Murder Scene Ever…

yeah, both murder scenes are exquisite, particularly the green house one. And I love how pervasive and prowling the camera is, really sets the mood of the film, like at the beginning when Teresa arrives and is shown around, focusing on windows etc where she may being watched. The ending, too, literally made me gasp, even though you pretty much expect the outcome. It's a perfect ending.

I came across this because I'd bought Who Can Kill A Child on dvd, which I thought was almost as extraordinary, and I'm surprised the director's only had 2 theatrical releases. Thoroughly deserves more. I can't stop singing his (and his films) praises to everyone.

Re: Best Murder Scene Ever…

Yes, that was a beautiful murder set piece. It reminded of another similar death scene, in the original "Black Christmas," where the girl gets stabbed with the crystal Unicorn. do you know that scene?
"IMdB; where 14 year olds can act like jaded 40 year old critics...'

Re: Best Murder Scene Ever…

Was that death scene (house that screamed) only on the uncut version? I watched it on cable, and they did'nt show much detail of the death.

Re: Best Murder Scene Ever…

The death scene is more intact in the uncut version.

Re: Best Murder Scene Ever…

too bad it's one of the maybe 4 small parts of this movie that is good. nothing ever happens in the story of this movie.

wow guess your friends are boring people. no offense but in this movie literally nothing happens until the very end when we find out who the killer is.

the spend the whole movie in one place which only works if you know how to make the story interesting and they don't. we get very little backstory of the characters the characters never give us enough to care about any of the characters. and all it is is a showcase of polite and oppressive girls private school things and girls getting tormented by other girls.
