Here's a poem I wrote:
You blame God
for your defective genes
and your ugly wife
And that is why you hate the sea.

And that is why you hate the sea.

I am an anti-natalist. You should be too. It is an advice.
Re: 10 of the Best Poems about the Sea
Hi there! I remember that thread really well, because I love poems about the sea too.
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is horrendously long, but tells a brilliant story.
No doubt you've already found every poem we discussed, because you're so quick at research.
So now, you've set me off looking again as well!

Yes. I remember that was the one we were both looking for last time. The words are full of the magic of distant lands and the everyday dirt of the English channel.
The rhythm is cool too.

I am googling each word used in that poem!
Re: 10 of the Best Poems about the Sea
Rime is a lovely choice. It's a shame that it was chastised at the time of its release as bearing a far-too-archaic diction, which is ironic considering Coleridge and Wordsworth asserted in 'Lyrical Ballads' that poetry ought to be composed in the language of the common man.
It's interesting as well that Coleridge was directly inspired by the dream of his friend Crookshanks, which entailed a skeleton ship manned by a spectral crew. The theme itself was derived from Wordsworth, who suggested that the poem center around crime and punishment: the crime being the murder of the albatross.
Coleridge, perfecting the art of blending the supernatural and the religious only later with the publication of 'Christabel,' opted instead to write of sin and penance within Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
I only know all this because I had to present on Coleridge at a literary conference.
Man is not truly one, but truly two.

I especially love some of the last few lines :
“He prayeth best, who loveth best
All things both great and small;
For the dear God who loveth us,
He made and loveth all.”
Re: 10 of the Best Poems about the Sea
I need to re-read it.

Please NZer make me remember the poems we discussed related to sea, and the schooner, something like that.
I love that poem.
