Now that we have colors in the subject, there isn't enough room…

…to include tags on longer pre-existing SUBJECTS. I've since quit using the ellipsis convention when I hit the brick wall.

The text limit should be on the output, not the input.

Doing that might open up the subject line to some other tags. The subject line should not lose focus when a supported tag button is pressed as it does currently with colors.

Re:  Now that we have colors in the subject, there isn't…

The length of subjects should probably be increased anyway.

Re:  Now that we have colors in the subject, there isn't…

Maybe the length should float to fill the available space. It's not the same everywhere and it could just be truncated thus…

Use of colored subjects is almost non-existent now. Potential users must have been facing the same frustrations that led me to stop using them.

Re:  Now that we have colors in the subject, there isn't…

The problem with increasing the length of topics is that it takes a long time for the database to make that update. I don't know how long the site would come to a crawl or even become inaccessible. I could maybe increase the length of topics as they are displayed on the boards without increasing the lengths of topics as they are displayed in the threads.

Your storage problem is with the length of the code, not the display. I'm skeptical that this is the correct solution. Storing a truncated version of the same code in a separate field doesn't seem workable. How do you deal with a closing tag that is truncated? I know they're not required, but how do you interpret "[/blu".
