Wolf Creek : why couldnt the police find mick's place

why couldnt the police find mick's place

surely from the air or even the ground they should of come across it. it didn't seem to take too long for mick to drive the kids there, so why could no one find it. this is true in real life also, coz this was based on truth and i dont think they ever found that killer either

I can handle dead people, u kill a dog, i go crazy

Re: why couldnt the police find mick's place

Have to agree with this 100%.

It's not like he's hiding in a cave or something.

He has multiple vehicles and a compound in the middle of the outback. Simple fly over would be pretty easy to see it.

Re: why couldnt the police find mick's place

The Australia Outback is a big place. They were in the middle of nowhere and then got towed to who knows where. I also doubt Ben would have been able to give them directions.

Re: why couldnt the police find mick's place

It's not like he walked thousands of kilometers from the location.

The people who rescued him would have been able to tell the police how long they have been driving and from where.

Re: why couldnt the police find mick's place

Do you have any idea the size of the outback lad? People disappear there quite often, it's essentially the centre of the country.

uRe: why couldnt the police find mick's place

The only way the police would have located it more easily is if they had interviewed the couple who rescued Ben. Presumably they dropped Ben off at the nearest hospital then didn't hang around, but we don't know. Ben didn't have a clue where the mining camp was. How could he know, plus the fact that the outback is a massive area. Didn't Mick say while they were sitting around the campfire that there were 'hundreds of places like this all over'?

Re: uRe: why couldnt the police find mick's place

I don't believe the police couldn't find where Ben came from.

The couple who found him would have been able to say where they found him...even roughly. They would have dropped him off at the first town they came to and given a police statement. The police would have been able to determine where they picked him up from 1. How long they (the couple) had him and 2. the average speed they were driving and remember it was an old van. Even if they were driving as fast as it could go to find help there was only so fast they could go.

He was in a terrible state and couldn't have made it on foot that far. But there was nothing wrong with his eyesight and he surely could remember some landmark?

I agree about the ariel search.

Plus wouldn't there be maps, even old ones with the location of the mines? Wouldn't locals know about the mines or even the description of the guy Mick himself? Ben saw his face.

Edited to add: If the police could have found where the couple picked him up then why couldn't they use sniffer dogs to trace his steps? The police dogs would also hear the barking of the other dogs.

Re: why couldnt the police find mick's place

Do a tour of outback Australia on Googe Maps and you will see what they mean. Missing people in the Outback have died waiting to be rescued even when the police/planes knew the area they were in. Outback Australia is like no other place on Earth, and until you have been there, the difficulty of finding anyone or anything even when you know the area, is impossible to describe.

Re: why couldnt the police find mick's place

...because the Australian desert is almost the size of Greenland. When you disappear in the Australian desert, you really do disappear and are generally never heard from again.

Re: why couldnt the police find mick's place…

Actually, it's NOT based on truth! It's the composite of three separate serial-killers. Two or all three of them are in prison. Don't believe the BS this film says.

I don't know what's a sig. line? Can't think of one! Can you tell me what one is?

Re: why couldnt the police find mick's place

The cars' license plates. No need for Ben to know where he was - simply memorize or write down the plate even on his arm. The Aussie DMV will be able to find Mick's address. Mick will most likely leave the mine camp since he will assume Ben will lead them to it - he would need to get some things from his old address, so the cops could simply stake it out. If Mick was living at the mine camp, that would be his address, and thru DNA they find they'll at least know Mick's name, which may help tracking him.
Also, unless Mick goes back to his wrecked truck in the crater & removes the plates and scratches out the VIN #, the cops could find out his identity that way-and at least put up warning posters with his pic. The crater is a big tourist area, so some1 will eventually find his wrecked truck unless he tows it away fast somehow.

Re: why couldnt the police find mick's place

That is why there are lots of alien sightings there and people are always disappearing. It is vast and barren.
