1492: Conquest of Paradise : Why Couldn't They Find Someone Else to Play Columbus?

The guy can't do a convincing Italian, Spanish or even an American accent. Just his same old French one

I agree. Horrendous accent, and very distracting. It was hard to understand what the hell he was saying.

Agreed Daniel Day-Lewis would have murdered this role.

Exactly. Could be the worst casting job ever. Very distracting and hard to understand.

The whole film is massively flawed but yep, his casting was a poor decision. The guy's a fine actor no doubt, but Columbus with a strong French accent is just ridiculous. It would be like a movie set around the Moon landings of 69 starring Benicio del Toro as Neil Armstrong.

He should've gotten a Raspberry Award. Horrible choice. Horrible acting. And worst of all, that French accent. The most atrocious thing about this film was that it had French accents left and right. I didn't get this stupidity. Ridley Scott should've gotten American or British actors. Not sure why it was a French production.

It was made by a French movie company. The Spanish and Brits also had a had hand in this. But it was mostly French.

The credits were in French (at least in the version I watched, which was in English though).
