Supernatural : Watched it years ago, didn't like it. Which season does it get really

Some like it and some don'tcan't tell what you'd like.
Re: Watched it years ago, didn't like it. Which season does it get reall
Depends on how much you watched and whether you enjoy the genre, I guess? I love every season for different reasons but I think consensus is that it starts to get really good when the story arc kicks in - Season 1 Episode 9 'Home' is when this happens. Not sure if you'll get into it though if it didn't grab you first time round. It had me at the Pilot

If you binge watch season 1 and don't like it after Skin, Home and Faith, then it may not be for you.
It really clicked with my son when Castiel first came on board but he also liked it from the beginning.

A decidedly odd place to start.
SPN is a character driven show. Most people watch because they have become emotionally invested in one or more characters. Cast the characters aside (and their back stories) and the show kind of crumbles. Sure, surethere is the odd good episode that maybe a non-invested viewer might likethough to be honest, I can't think of a one. Most are good because they bring about fascinating/heartbreaking character developments (S4's On the Head of a Pin) or tell a story that we've always wanted to see (S11's Baby)and most are good because of the shared history we have with the characters. If you just jump in the middle of the story, I'm not sure how much you'll understand or find interesting.
I began watching the show back in 2005watched the pilot as it aired. Watched the nextoh, maybe four episodes and gave up. The urban legend/modern day horror movie-of-the-week didn't resonate for me. No one's fault. It just wasn't my thing. I gave up and promptly forgot the show ever existed. Five years later I tried it again (and nearly failed again at the exact same point), but after getting nagged by my husband (he was a big fan and promised I'd like it if I gave it a try) I continued on. By the beginning of S2 I was double-fisting episodes. By S4 and S5, I was outright bingingwatching 10 episodes in a row. I could NOT get enough of this show.
I don't know if that will happen for you. It may not be your thing at all. And that's okaybut starting in the middle (or end) is no way to watch SPN. The story is constantly building. Important mythology and "rules" of the Universe are laid down in those first few seasons. If you don't watch them you'll never quite understand what all the fuss is about.
Power-through the first season. If you're not invested by the end of S2then stop, no harmno foul. But don't jump into the end of a story with characters you cannot possibly appreciate or understand. If you only read the last few chapters of The Lord of the Rings would you really get the emotional impact of Frodo sailing away to the Undying Lands? It's such a poignant momentnot because of the individual words that make up that part of the book, but because of everything the character has been throughand everything the reader has been through with the character.
Even those viewers who have stumbled into the show in later seasons and liked it usually wind up going back and watching from the beginning in order to truly appreciate the story.
Like I saidthe show may not be for you. Nothing wrong with that. We all have different tastesbut don't read chapter 45 and expect to care as much as those who've read to that point.
Re: Watched it years ago, didn't like it. Which season does it get reall
I didn't discover this series until 2012. I binged day and night, lived and breathed Supernatural until I was caught up. I've never ever been affected in such a way by any other show, movie or character. I'm just not the 'fan' type usually. But this series captured me and hooked me in right from the get-go. I honestly don't get the disdain for season 1 which, I think, is the best of the bunch.
And I don't understand viewers who only want to watch MOTWs or certain episodes. Maybe this works with other series, it certainly doesn't for Supernatural. Every episode be it good, bad or downright ugly always provides another layer, another insight.
Watching Supernatural is a journey. If you keep taking shortcuts you're never really going to experience the ride (which can be pretty wild at times).
Saving people, hunting things, the family business

Well, hasn't Jensen stated on more than one occasion that his favorite season is S1? I have no problem with people enjoying that season. I've nothing against it other than it just didn't grab me. I found it to be too "young"too modern-day "horror movie" like (S1's Bloody Mary, for instance, reminded me of The Ringa movie I didn't really like). I was over 40 years old when the show beganand I had just come off of watching Carnivale on HBOso maybe I was looking for something like that and SPN didn't quite fit the bill. And againno shame to SPN, of course, it is what it isit has its own tone, and that's fine. But those first handful of episodes like Hookman, Bloody Mary, Phantom Traveler, etcwasn't what I wanted at the time.
It also didn't help that after those first few "blah" episodes (for me), I started skipping episodes. I caught Hookman, Bugs and Wendigo but totally missed Skin and Homeepisodes that I probably would have really enjoyed (especially being the Dean-girl that I am). The last episode that I caught live (before S6) was "Scarecrow"which was a decent episode, and one that still genuinely creeps me out. But at the time it wasn't enough to make me watch the next episode (can't believe I quit right before Faithugh! LOL). Of course nowall those episodes are nostalgic and importanteven Bugs has some great character building in it. I like them nowbut back when I figured all the episodes would be like thatI lost interest.
But I'm with you. I've never ever been so drawn into a show before. Never. I've never been a part of any online fandom beforenever looked for spoilers or behind-the-scenes information for any show, but SPN really affected me. It's something truly special. Butyeah, most people I know in real life just shrug or scratch their heads at my obsession. They've maybe watched a couple of episodes over the yearsview it as a cheaply made genre show with pretty-boy actors. I see something completely different. Oh well. They don't have to like it. All the more for me then, I guess. :)

That's fine l don't need to be "emotionally invested " in the characters, l'm not a girlI just wanna make sure it's really good when l start watching. Several ppl have said ep 9 is where it starts.

That's a weird way to phrase it I don't think you can be emotionally invested in characters only if you're a girl. What's the point of watching any show, any movie if you don't care for the characters and their story?
Now, I got hooked starting with the pilot, and I love MOTW episodes, 1st season is great for those. But If you are not "emotionally invested" in the characters, don't care for their journey, then there is no point in watching the rest. Cuz starting from S2, it is hard core Sam & Dean story.
Re: Watched it years ago, didn't like it. Which season does it get really
I say season 1 is rubbish and just marathon it and be done with it. I loved it season 2. Even more season 4 on once we get new cast members. Season 1 wasn't sure what it wanted to be and "where is dad?" as a storyline was pure rubbish but they didn't know what else to do. I didn't give a rats ass about the dumb dad we barely see.
Re: Watched it years ago, didn't like it. Which season does it get reall
Season 1 was the best lol
To be honest the show had the best stand alone episodes in 1 and 2. 3 started to be more a continued flow of story that follow every week. 4 really had me hook because of how it started but then the ultimate payoff is disapointing as we know how it turned out. But season 1 to 5 remain easily the best season. Then the gamble era was probably the worst, especially 7 despite some good stand alone episodes the main story was rubish. After that there have been some ups, some downs, some ridiculous stuff too 10 was pretty bad in the end, 11 felt a bit better without being perfect. But so far 12 is REALLY bad in general so well
Alice is the worst character of all time, she need to die in the last movie. Chris/Jill are RE !!!

season 1 is rather meh compared to the rest of the series imo.
i'd say if you can watch it until the end of season 2 (specifically the last 2 episodes of s2) and still not like it then the show isn't for you.

Re: Watched it years ago, didn't like it. Which season does it get reall
Thanks. One would think the best seasons of a 10 or more seasons show would be around 5 or 6. And definitely not the 1st season.

Re: Watched it years ago, didn't like it. Which season does it get reall
It's good enough, not great, characters and stories are simple and repetitive, at least not the mess like Smallville where they prop superman up too much but not quite make him one
