It's been suggested that the real reason why IMDb is closing it's boards is because they can't be monetized. That's a fair assessment but without a forum, what is the point of being a registered user? If IMDb cares about their site's health, there's one other thing you can do to capture their attention: show them how much you care about the message boards by deleting your account since there isn't much of a point of having one after February 19.

I see no lists and no reviews on your profile for me to panic to download. So

No, I discuss movies on individual movie boards with real people as necessary (after I watch them) and of course the general message boards. There is nothing here to hold me.

I feel the same. I have been discussing film here for 12 years. If all i want is to know who played what, i can go to wikipedia. The message boards were the only reason to stay here. I'll never be back.

Col Needham is getting destroyed over on the FAQ thread he opened. Someone found this quote of his from a few years ago:

I hope I can find the strength to do the same. I've treasured IMDb as a source of information on films, actors and television, but like you said, the draw is the ability to discuss these things with others. I will not ever use this site again.

If you can't place an actor you can always look them up on Wikipedia. I think all us movie buffs are good at connecting people with what they have been in, that's the only thing IMDb will be utilized for in the future (at least the only feature I would bother with). *beep* even my son can do that and he's 8. Sometimes I look for episode descriptions but that can be found anywhere. I don't know if I will delete my account, I have so many characters I can't get into or forgot about.they are drifting out there, what is one more

Most likely I will, too, but I won't make that decision until after the boards go down.

Maybe someone will have a change of heart at the last minute.

The only reason I stayed this long was because of the message boards. I could always ask a question or check on a movie/TV program and find answers to questions from other people too. The Food and Drink message board was a second home. Even the Watercooler, as slow as it was lately, kept me company when I needed it. I won't have any use for this place without the message boards.

This is true. I would only delete on principal (but I won't).

For what? Maybe thousands of new accounts were created, but it doesn't mean that they'll necessarily be used for helping out with the database.
