Singin' in the Rain : WHATEVER BECAME OF LINA?
Re: WHATEVER BECAME OF LINA?
I think Don would have been all right: he knows how to sing, he knows how to dance. And it's just the beginning of the musical era.
But yeah, we are supposed to believe this is the end of Lina as an actress. I can see her marrying a rich old man though and live comfortably enough.

Hm, another Anna Nicole Smith, eh?
And this was in the days before pre-nups.

Re: WHATEVER BECAME OF LINA?
I see a Marion Davies/William Randolph Hearst connection, although Marion didn't have that kind of voice, just a lazy eye.

Re: WHATEVER BECAME OF LINA?
Well, she got what she deserved at the end, because she was trying to control everyone and be a diva. She was laughed off the stage and I think she faded into obscurity.
Re: WHATEVER BECAME OF LINA?
At one point in the movie, doesnt she mention/or read from a contract that she owns a percentage of the studio which is why they cannot fire/replace her from the film and she continues to be dubbed. I think she parlayed her stocks wisely and eventually married a rich man and spent the rest of her life telling everyone how grand she was; a-la Norma Desmond.
Re: WHATEVER BECAME OF LINA?
Lina's contract said that she was in charge of her publicity, not that she owned any part of the studio.
But your post makes me wonder: did Lina and other stars get wiped out in the crash of 1929?

Re: WHATEVER BECAME OF LINA?
She came back twenty-five years later as the star of a situation comedy on television. She was married six times and had horrid children who cashed in after her death by writing books full of lies about her.
WHATEVER BECAME OF LINA?
However, Norma married rich and comfortable and retired from her film career.
Considering how vindictive and self-absorbed Lina was, I seriously doubt that any man in his right mind, whether rich or not, would marry her.
Somehow, I believe that Lina would have faded into obscurity, possibly becoming an alcoholic like Marie Prevost.
As a matter of fact, I also think the same fate would have befallen Don Lockwood once the early era of movie musicals ended. Unless Busby Berkley cast him in one of his Warner Brothers musical extravaganzaswhich I kinda doubt.
I also believe that Kathy Selden would have moved on from musicals to the screwball comedies of the '30's, and maybe into a few dramatic roles.
Of course, it would have meant the end of Don and Kathy's marriage, but
