The Big Bang Theory : I can't wait to watch the prequel..

I can't wait to watch the prequel..

I dont understand the negativity on this board. I mean what could be more interesting than seeing these guys in their younger years? I d9nt understand why they are restricting themselves to Sheldon. The sitcom should include younger versions of all the characters.

I can't see CBS letting go off this show, no matter what till season 15 simply because there are no rating gaints like this one.

Can you please tell me why you guys are ao negative about The prequel?

Re: I can't wait to watch the prequel..

You do realise that these guys/girls did not know eachother when they were young. Sheldon would be in Texas, Leonard in Jersey, Penny in Nebraska, Raj in India somewhere and Howard in Pasadena. All depending on at what age they will make the prequel ofcourse. So putting them all in the new series would be difficult and would envolve a lot of other characters. Not to mention a huge number of sets.

Re: I can't wait to watch the prequel..

The problem with the prequel is that the character(s) would not be allowed to progress. The idea of watching the creation of the broken, ignorant twits they were at the beginning of TBBT is not comedy, it's a tragedy.

Frankly, I cannot think of anything worse to watch than old Sheldon as a horrible kid. None of the other characters as kids seems very interesting either. What was interesting about them was that they were man-children, not actual children, and they played off of each other. These characters didn't even know each other as kids.

Prequels are something that should be avoided always.

What if his family was the crazy bit, and he starts out kind of normal?

Re: I can't wait to watch the prequel..

I am on record as saying I'm not the slightest bit interested in it and probably won't watch it and Sheldon is my favorite character so that's saying a lot. I just don't see how they can make Sheldon growing up bullied and with a drunken father and religious nut mother funny.

Mary is only funny to me now because Laurie plays her with such a deft touch and makes her smart and sympathetic at the same time.

And they have no intention that we've heard of of mentioning the others. Which wouldn't be any better. Slut Penny? Spoiled Raj? Not funny.

Re: I can't wait to watch the prequel..

My main problem with watching a young Raj would be that growing up in India simply wouldn't be very relatable if done right. Comedies need pop culture to draw from. I doubt it would work being set in India. Otherwise, I could find a lot of humour in an effeminate, nerdy boy prone to cross-dressing.

Re: I can't wait to watch the prequel..

They could show a younger Penny and how the way Wyatt interacted with her might have sent her out after male approval.

And you think that would make for good comedy? Seriously?

Re: I can't wait to watch the prequel..

I think with good writing, that and a whole lot of stuff can make for good comedy. They have such a funnel-in from the BBT audience, I hope they don't waste it.

But I did also think that the first 3-4 seasons of TAAHM was some of the funniest lowbrow humor ever made.

We don't have good writing anymore now. I don't have a lot of hope for it with this and I don't think they do have a big funnel-in. Not that many people here are saying they will watch it. I'm not sure about anyplace else. But as for the rest of the cast that's a moot point. Nothing has been mentioned about using any of them that I've seen. Have you heard differently?

Re: I can't wait to watch the prequel..

I disagree that it is that black and white. I think that with the large numbers they get that there can't help but be a huge carry-over, even from those that have become disappointed with the current series but still watch it, as well as those highly skeptical about spin-offs in general and this idea in particular. That's not even getting to those that still enjoy it week in and week out.

I don't know much of anything about it. What I do know is that if they have superlative writing I don't see how they could miss having success.

We'll see. I'll miss seeing your posts about it.

Re: I can't wait to watch the prequel..

I'm watching very little tv, but it's one I'll tune in for. Here's hoping they don't succumb too badly to arrogance.

Re: I can't wait to watch the prequel..

I think most people are gun-shy about spinoffs and shows related to previous shows. Frasier, The Jeffersons, and Laverne & Shirley were the rare exception and certainly not the rule in the pantheon of sitcoms. It's certainly been a long time since we've seen a successful sitcom spinoff, although dramas have fared better of late. Then again, dramas have fared better in general lately.

Re: I can't wait to watch the prequel..

We're negative about it because it's a ridiculous and poorly thought out concept for a television show.

Why would anyone want to see Sheldon be insufferable as a kid? The whole charm of the character is that he's an adult acting that way.
