Conspiracy Theory : Jerry's Taxi License

Jerry's Taxi License

The name on the license in the cab is clearly labeled "Raffi Paloulian" and also dated 1998. Also, I'm not from a big City, but are taxi drivers aloud to take their cabs home? I thought they'd leave them at the main hub or what not.

Re: Jerry's Taxi License

A bit late to the party here - but I will answer all the same.

Some taxi drivers actually own their own cab, and drive for themselves, only hiring the service of an dispatch/hub - and can then take it back home after they have wrapped up their work for the day. It is not so common in NYC to see this solution as it is elsewhere (primarily in smaller cities and in Europe) but it exists there as well.

Re: Jerry's Taxi License

I used to drive a taxi , and we were never allowed to take our taxi home,, you had 2 choices, either park at the dispatch,, or you meet you're relief driver at a certain place and hand over the keys, I worked nights, so me and the other driver met at a 7-11 parking lot's everyday at 6 am.
are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite

Re: Jerry's Taxi License

Maybe it wasn't a valid taxi. Maybe he was just driving around working under the radar.

Re: Jerry's Taxi License

This is yet another reason why this movie blows. Yes, although some people own their own cabs, and thus can take them home after putting in a shift, this isn't done. Why? First of all, the cost to own a taxicab medallion - the thing that actually makes a cab a cab - is about a quarter of a million dollars. To buy it, people take out bank loans. To pay those bank loans back, the cab has to be in continuous operation, 24 hours a day.

You cannot make enough money in one shift of 8 hours to pay for a cab. The cab is on the road for three shifts, 24 hours, to pay for itself. No one ever just lets a cab sit idle.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.
