I found it incredible that there was not a scene in this movie where someone is not drinking. In most scenes everyone is drinking. I don't think you can get your life on an even keel by getting hammered every night, and it casts a terrible stereotype on southerners (and no I'm not).

I think they were drinking Coors Light mostly weren't they? Reguardless I think that was sort of the point of the movie, among other things.

And I never really thought that a story about 1 woman and her friends and family drinking a lot was any sort of blanket statement about southerners (and yes, I am one).

Although, we do all go frog-gigging. :)

Yeah they do taste pretty good if cooked properly. I probably only eat them about once a year or so, but wouldn't turn them down if offered.

Clearly you missed the point that Lucille gets drunk to avoid having real contact with the guys she sleeps with her father was never a source of emotional strength for her and until she began to hear the Word, she just stuck around in bitter victimhood

Reading your touching portrayal of Lucille's inner turmoil almost brought a tear to my eye.
But now to address your over-simplification of the movie. By the end of our story, the movie doesn't really proclaim Lucy's embracing of religion. Last I saw she was banging on furniture and cussing out an over-patient pastor. It was also not implicitly stated that she was going to drink any less - to say nothing of driving around town sloshed.

I'll never know how anybody can get drunk on that watered down swill Coors Light anyway. Hell I drink that to sober up.

Just had to add my 2 cents that yeah, it was kind of ridiculous that everyone was drinking Coors Light constantly. I mean, for someone who drinks all the time and has a high tolerance, it's going to take a case of those things to get drunk!
