I enjoyed it too, I recommend anyone with a disabled child to see it.

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
Thank you! Exactly why I didn't see it in the theater, and instead waited for redbox. This movie would have been great if they hadn't felt the need to change the story in order to add the "CHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-YULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLD," as you put it.
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
I think that's what ruined it for me. It wasn't awful, but when children begin acting like adults and are smarter than the adults in the movie, that kind of ruins it.
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
I should have loved this movie. I love dolphins and I'm a sap for kids in movies and I love Harry C., Morgan Freedman and Ashley Judd. And yet, I kept going "just how lonnng is this movie?" We all know these people can act so why did it come off as really bad acting? I enjoyed the real life scenes at the end that were more documentary in style.
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
the true life story is great!
trying to make it sappy with the kid did not work for me.
I give it a 5

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
Because this is IMDB. No other reason. People who use IMDB suck.
I haven't seen this movie, but thought it looked cute for a family film, and it's getting great reviews. Obviously, it's just a case of the pretentious, cry-baby IMDB crowd who can't like anything.
And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
Because commenters on IMDb are, for the most part, male teenagers and young men who to assert their supposed grown-up status enjoy dissing films that are aimed at children and (even more ire-arousing) teenage girls. There is nothing at all wrong with this picture.
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. A great family movie that send a message about courage and determination. It also teaches kids to respect aquatic life. I've had close up encounters with dolphins both at Sea World in SD and at Siegfried and Roy's
in the Las Vegas Mirage. To touch and rub the bellies of those marvelous animals, to have them kiss you, to feed them little fish and follow your commands to flip over, wave and talk was a thrill.

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
LMAO
First you say: "It also teaches kids to respect aquatic life."
Then you say: "to have them kiss you, to feed them little fish and follow your commands to flip over, wave and talk was a thrill."
Is that the way you show respect to such great animals???

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
I wanted to say the same thing. People still don't get it.
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
They never will sad.
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
Uhm, yeah. The very best way a human being can respect aquatic life like a dolphin IS to let them kiss you, feed them fish, and follow your commands to flip over, wave, and talk. There is absolutely NO other way to respect aquatic life, you know. It's called mutual respect. Respect the dolphin, and the dolphin will respect you. I know. A tough concept for cold hearts like your own, right.

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
How old are you? 10, 12? for your little mind a movie can be good only when it has a bunch of graphic sex scenes or violence. Is that it?
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
There is also a political component. Morgan Freeman made a political statement that caused a tempest in a teapot (no pun intended) and the movie was immediately denounced in some circles.
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
People these days are just *beep* sick and psycho. Whoever hates this movie, YOU DON'T HAVE A *beep* HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
Come on, as a movie it had a great message for children. If you all hate this so much just go play GTA with your sons, daughters and leave good movies at peace.

I watched this film with my Grandchildren and we loved it. There is such a positive message and well worth watching with or without children.

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
I know I'm cold but I can't think of a movie that is more sappy or cliche filled than this one is. Vapid acting, editing has scenes that are meaningless, story line telegraphed miles away. respectable actors simply underused, miscast, going through the motions and simply collecting a paycheck. Everywhere it turns it tries to be so saccharine sweet it kills me that people, including I, wound up being sucked into this fluff piece.
I think there is more animosity towards this film is because of false advertising and false hopes. It must be a great story in real life, only to be butchered by the screenwriter, producer, director, etc. I can't blame the kids - they are merely filling in the lines and being on screen as anybody would like to be.
If you are ready for a sob story then see a good one done well. This is NOT it.
I've said enough but I'm mad because I feel betrayed by this sham of a "film". Wise up people. I'm watching the rest of the movie as I type. Oh, no. The war hero is now going to swim against his high school rival I wonder what's going to happen now? Yep, I thought so .
I will now slit my wrists

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
^^^ LOL, go ahead.
Now, no way was this the perfect movie, but for a family flick, it did what it did. Sometimes, for the kids, you have to reach for that middle ground. If you want to awe at the true life story, go wank off to the articles on the net, they are all there for you and are at a clicking distance away. The family entertainment genre gets a bad rap by those who seemingly believe themselves to have "grown out" of it into their cynical adult lives. And while there are worthwhile real stories out there, not all can translate well into movies without some creative tinkering, and sometimes, fluff just works best. Whether you liked this movie or not, you're well in your right to your opinion, but I don't think it was as bad as some haters make it out to be. There are certainly worse movies out there, and oddly enough, while I had a few ideas of some cliches I thought were going to be presented in the movie, they never did. Hell, if they REALLY wanted to go through the cliches, Sawyer's mom would've fallen in love with Hazel's dad, and they would've had a scene where the school bullies followed Sawyer to the aquarium, beat him up then vandalized Winter's tank.

laevisoracle said>> Sawyer's mom would've fallen in love with Hazel's dad, and they would've had a scene where the school bullies followed Sawyer to the aquarium, beat him up then vandalized Winter's tank. <<
I agree with your post and I also thought that the Mom and the Doctor would hook up somewhere in the film. Also, while I didn't think the bullies would vandalize Winter's tank I thought they would confront Sawyer and maybe harm or kill the pelican doorkeeper.
At least they left that out. The wounded Army guy was really not necessary for the film and while it may have tied in the VA prothetic guy it just took away too much from the titled injured hero (Winter). The film was very successful at the box office and beat all expectations so the public has spoken on whether they liked the film or not. While box office receipts are not always the best indication of a "great" film they do reflect the largest indication of a "good" film.
If the OP (who is entitled to his opinion) didn't like the fictionalization of a real life occurence he could have figured out that dislike by reading reviews of the film before watching it. Almost all films based on real life have a lot of scenes that didn't actually happen but the writers or director thought that it was needed to make the film a box office success they. It does cry out for a documentary on the real rehabilitation of the Dolphin called "Winter" but maybe there isn't enough actual film footage to make a "Discovery" type doc.
I'm a senior citizen who has watched thousands of movies and while I wouldn't rate this one in the top 100 I would definitely place it in the top 200.
It was entertaining and though the ending could be easily guessed it still held my interest on "how" they rehabilitated this dolphin. Kudos to the folks who do this kind of work for little pay or volunteer at no pay. It's just too bad that most if not all of them have to have "shows" of so-called trained wild animals in order to raise the funds to keep the rehab facilities opened. I just rolled my eyes when I took my children to the Miami Seaquarium and the audience was clapping and hooting for the "tricks" these animals do for their enjoyment.
I highly doubt the animals know why the audience is clapping and I've been told that the clapping is really for the trainers but enslaving such highly intelligent animals who do "tricks for treats" is rather pitiful if you think about it.

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
Lets face it. If this was just about a bunch of people in lab coats. It would be a lot sorter. Besides its probably to always better go with a documentary if you want the real story. Movies always change the story for drama.
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
Jerry-137, you're in luck if you're looking for a documentary on Winter and her real-life rescue and rehab story. The folks at the aquarium have available a special DVD documentary about Winter and you can get it at www.seewinter.com and it's also available there at the aquarium as well as at the aquarium's sister facility, Winter's Dolphin Tale Adventure.
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
I have to honestly say that I definitely enjoyed this movie FAAAAR more than I expected to. I knew it had gotten good reviews from critics and fans (against all odds) and had done good at the box office (also against all odds) but it was the type of movie that just made me sigh and roll my eyes thinking: here we go againanother cheesy movie like this.
Now I did not love this film but I was thoroughly shocked at how much I liked it. Also, during the film I was distracted several times and not able to fully concentrate the whole movie, but I still liked itthat is a rarity for me.

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
All of you people criticizing the people who don't like this as not being intelligent, that shows how intelligent you are. Unless you consider this a masterpiece, which I know you don't, you can't judge others for critiquing the movie. How can you say it's a bunch of teenagers who just want sex and violence when they are TELLING you exactly why they didn't like it? They didn't say it was too nice or just not exciting enough, they said it was SAPPY and predictable. Fortunately, the story was good enough to overshadow the Hollywood treatment.
With that said, that didn't ruin the movie for me, but I can understand how it would for others. Plus, it was well shot in some scenes, especially underwater.
That's my corn out there! You guys are guests in my corn!

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
At first I thought it was going to be a Disney-type, kids movie. but with so many of our young soldiers returning injured (but not broken) I think it ended up a movie for just about anyone.
As for why so much hate? Tough question, during tough times..lets face it, you can find something to dislike, something to hate in any movie, any book or tv program. If you want to. All too often the hate is as much a commentary on the writer, as it is the subject.
I'm a vet and spent time as an M.D. training in a V.A. hospital. All of our returning warriors, healthy or notneed your support.

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
Maybe because it's all been done before: The boy and the dog, the boy and the horse, the boy and the whale, the boy and the wolf, the boy and the alien etc.
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
For a kids movie, I enjoyed it. The only thing that really bothered me was all the damn CGI. Is this what kids movies have become?
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
I liked it better than I expected. Maybe I'm a sap. But it was a family movie, for kids. I will probably see the next one when it gets to TV. I didn't mind the kids at all. I really liked Morgan Freeman, and will watch Ashley in anything! And I loved the scenes with the dolphin, getting that 'close'. I got to touch one in an aquarium. WOW!
What bothered me, aside from that helicopter scene (that kids probably loved), was how it reminded me of '50 first dates'. Not so much the good parts with Drew and Adam, but the revolting parts with Rob Schneider! Something about the people and the dolphins doing flips in the water. I'm surprised no one with a hazy eye showed up

Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
For every movie ever released, there are a group of people who don't like it. Instead of drowning them out, we make their voices loudest. I really enjoyed the movie. It was a movie about overcoming obstacles and turned out to be a feel good movie.
Re: Why so much hate on this movie?
Just because a movie doesn't have a bunch of graphic sex scenes or violence
I think you just said it best there. Sadly, for some people unless a movie has those two main elements along with coarse language, blood, gore or nudity it is a bad movie.
I liked this movie too.
