Sex and the City : None Of the 4 Women Are FROM NYC…

Why do so many people that watch the show think this is how "NYC" women are when none of the women are natives? Speak to one of these women and the average NYC native and you will see the difference in attitude and way they carry themselves.

I hate how people move to NYC and automatically label themself a "New Yorker" as if they have the same relationship with the city or experiences someone that grew up there has... You have to earn that title with time and pay your dues, you aren't just a NYer because you moved there. Charlotte from an upper upbringing in (PA or Connecticut?) acted like a girl from there... she didnt act like someone from NYC. Your upbringing (your environment plays a role in your upbringing) plays a part in who you become, it doesn't just erase cause you moved.

Also, if you have an issue with minorities (Charlotte seems to) and stereotype all the time etc. why would you move to such a diverse city? Never once do you see any of the women hanging out with a non white person. The only time was when Samantha and Miranda dated a black man... otherwise it was white city... which is a lie

Is there something umm elitist (?) about not just living in NY but living there your whole life? I noticed that Carrie would correct someone from she's from US to NY or justify unsavoury behaviour by saying 'she's from NY', couldn't understand why Big wanted a break from NY, the self proclaimed expert on NY women (the scrunchie argument), generally a bit snobby about the whole thing. Or is your statement more to do with fidelity to NY behaviour or lack thereof? Only Carrie appeared to flaunt the NY pride thing iirc. Miranda was repulsed by Mr. NY and straight out said that she likes Connecticut and lots of different places, Samantha called it 'Same York' before she went to SF with Carrie on the train, she also went upstate. It could have been any major city to me as to how the girls behaved...

You may have a point with Charlotte stereotyping, but she did become a jew and marry one and have children to him and adopt a chinese baby. But i recall other black people in the show - The woman that gives Miranda the baby chair, Big is seen on a date with a black woman in season 1, a black woman takes Carrie out for a hotdog after her book affair, Sam makes friends with the trannies of which at least one is black iirc. What i'm not seeing is any asians!! (Carrie's runway show is the only one, well in a positive light). I think Charlotte moved straight onto 5th avenue upon moving... I'm trying to see racial diversity in the show and i think i can, just not very distinct.

Charlotte didn't have a problem with minorites. Charlotte is a classist, not a bigot.
