Re: 2014 Emmys: Best Drama

Breaking Bad
Game of Thrones
Mad Men
Downtown Abbey
The Newsroom
Homeland

Nothing looks likely to break through. I think "The Newsroom" replaces "House of Cards" and that's it. The new crop of AMC, HBO, and Showtime dramas don't seem to have the critical buzz and hype to breakthrough. "The Americans" gets in in 2015 if it keeps up.

I need a new sig.

Re: 2014 Emmys: Best Drama

They're gonna nominate 6 dramas.

Breaking Bad is the only one 100% sure to be there, I reckon. It's also the major contender for the win right now, but we'll see once August comes if other series have more buzz.
Then it comes Mad Men which despite the sluggish season 6 is still very much appreciated among jurors. Season 7 is the first half of the final, so it should be good stuff.
Game of Thrones is also very probable to be there, it's a hit, jurors seems to like it and Season 4 has the source material to be as good if not even better, than Season 3.

That was the easy part, beyond those three it's tricky.

I don't watch Downton Abbey but I figure it's a pretty consistent show and unless voters' fatigue kicks in, I don't see why it can't be there again next year.
Homeland... I don't know, Season 3 has been pretty weak so far, but Emmy jurors have a record of nominating shows even though they're rapidly fading quality-wise (comes to mind dexter season 5 nominated despite the horrible season), so I guess it's back again. That is unless Season 3 does something catastrophically bad in these last few episodes.

For the final spot I really don't know, House of Cards has a pretty good chance of being super awesome once again this year, but it's hard to predict how a show holds up after only one season. Boardwalk Empire could come back, but it rarely happens in the drama category. The Good Wife is having a masterful season, but is in the same situation as Boardwalk, once a show it's not nominated anymore, it's tough to come back. Masters of Sex is good, but not crazy good like it was House of Cards last year, and this is the probably the toughest category to break into for a freshman show.

All in all, my guess is that they will nominate the same shows as last year, and also that the winner will be once again Breaking Bad.
