Oooo, oooo and don't forget Farquad getting eaten by the dragon!!!!!! Alas.
This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

Re: TOO MUCH COMIC VIOLENCE!!!
The first Shrek events go with the anti-disney territory. They're pretty interesting, they're not exactly following the usual slapstic comic violence pattern, they're twisted. S2 and onward lost the point, no reason to discuss much of anything in them.
Would also be interesting to see if similar shrekian anti-disney effect would be achieved by making some of the "disney classics" with the original hardcore splatter violence bits in them (cinderella's _beautiful_ stepsisters hacking off their big toe and heel to fit the shoe, and king's son catching them of faking due to the bursting blood). Then your topic would probably be just "too much violence"?

Re: TOO MUCH COMIC VIOLENCE!!!
I just re-watched it and i agree never have my kids watch such a movie
Re: TOO MUCH COMIC VIOLENCE!!!
Give me a break! It is a cartoon. My generation (I'm 52) grew up watching the road runner getting creamed every Saturday morning and for the most part we are fine. (Every generation will have people who are violent so you can't blame what we watched on TV)
I am far more concerned with the cartoons that are on every Saturday morning and all the violence they have.
I see nothing wrong with violence when it is just these crazy characters-I think the vast majority of kids are going to know it is all fairy tale characters and not get the idea that violence is ok. The cartoons that are now on TV on Saturdays are nothing BUT violence. At least on Shrek there is the message that it is ok to be different and not to judge a book by its cover.
GCPoetry- you cannot protect your kids from everything and the sooner you realize that the better off both you and your kids will be.

GCPoetry's kids aren't gonna find out the truth about the tooth fairy until they're like 40 years old.

Yep. I saw this movie when I was 11 years old and I was never the same. It singlehandedly turned me into a serial killer and animal torturer. I'm actually typing this in prison on a smuggled laptop.

Beware the evils of Shrek!

Hahahahahha, I DIED laughing when I read your post! XD
Re: TOO MUCH COMIC VIOLENCE!!!
Cartoon violence doesn't dusturb me unless the character dies (like the bird in Shrek). That I could do without.

I new it was to good to be true. I thought I finally found a movie where people had no reason to complain yet people amaze me.

Oh my yes, that was disturbing indeed. However I found the bird in Shrek more disturbing because we're supposed to think it's funny. The Dipped shoe's scene is played straight, and rightly so.

Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
Please remember that this is cartoon violence, it is just not the same. This movie was made to be "anti-Disney." I think it was Time magazine that did an article that even pointed out that Shrek's profile looks like Michael Eisner (Disney's president at the time.) Also the original Grimm's fairy tales are extremely dark. People die, get eaten by wolves, cut up, etc. I have a book of some of the tales that I had as a child. I read the original stories from Germany, France, and China in English of course. FYI nearly every country has their own form of the story of Cinderella.

Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
Too many people assume that every cartoon is ok for kids to watch. Some cartoons (NEWS FLASH!) are intended for adults. Not that the "violence" here is too great for most children. Any parent that lets their child watch "Happy Tree Friends" is an irresponsible or neglectful fool. Years ago some idiot sued MTV because her 5 year old was watching "Beavis and Butthead" and got the idea from Beavis that fires were fun and burned their house down. Never mind that the child was allowed to watch TV unsupervised at 11 p.m. on a school night. Never mind that the child had a history of anti-social behavior including SETTING FIRES! Never mind that the show always ran a disclaimer at the beginning that B&B were idiots and that their behavior should not be copied even by the mentally challenged. Noooooooo! It was the SHOW that caused the problem! Blaming the medium is about as smart as banning history books because power-mad dictators sometimes emulate the conquerors of the past. If only Mussolini hadn't read Gibbon's "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire"!
Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
As a "Happy Tree Friends"-fan myself, I object. First of all, kids today can handle sex and some violence easily, and secondly, "Happy Tree Friends" is not really a kids show. Okay, it says on the DVD-boxes that it's "twelve years", but that's probably the definitive minimum age.
Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
What a *beep* idiot. There is more violence in a 5 minute Bugs Bunny cartoon than the entire shrek movie. Only the most brainless PC douchebagged maroon would whine about such a thing.

Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
The films are "PG" rated, so if the rating (or movie) is not appropriate for your children, do not let them watch it. Isn't it that simple? View it yourself if you want (I think all parents should do this) to determine if the film is appropriate for them.

Are some of you people honestly serious?!
too much voilence!? youve got to be joking
harden the *beep* up please!
i completly agree with katesgram2000, kids sit around watching cartoons like Roas Runner and Tom and Jerry and things were the whole plot is basically 'one main character attack the other' whats the problem with that?
im pretty sure a bird crashing into a wall and frogs becoming balloons isnt about to turn into an R-rated massacre!
Fear Can Hold You Prisoner. Hope Can Set You Free.

no offence, but you're an idiot. :)
these movies are hilarious! i'm 20 years old and i love them to death.
how the heck is a boat sinking violence?! have you ever seen titanic? i watched that when i was like 9! and it even had nudity.
maybe you're just an uptight parent. :)
your kids could end up resenting you for that in the end.
just saying.

Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
lol i agree with everyone that called u an idiot.lmao and especially mrpie. that was an excellent point. cartoons aren't meant for all kids. thats like getting mad at the company who owns rights to family guy and south park. those kind of shows aren't targeted at toddlers, more so preteen, and up. and it's a pg rated movie, you should know by now that those kinds of movies are at a pretty mild level. quit being so damn uptight because parents like you are the main ones with the kids growing up outta control because you're sheltering them from every lil thing.
Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
I used to watch Tom & Jerry when I was a child. That cartoon is very sadistic and more violent than Shrek and yet it didnt affect me a bit. I wonder if the OP has seen Tom & Jerry? Then you wouldnt been so quick to judge the "violence" in Shrek.
And not to mention South Park, where Kenny used to die in every episode.
Agree with every one else. Not every cartoon are intended for children, japanese anime are a good example of that. Or Simpsons for that matter
Ratings are there for a reason.
Lighten up a bit,its not good to shelter your child from every little bit and piece.

Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
Personally, I've never met a person who thought Shrek was too violent. I guess I could have done without the puppy getting stage-dived onto and the bird crashing into the wall in Shrek 2. Thats about it. But that's your opinion
Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
OK, before I give my response, I must know one thing:
Are you serious, or is this an elaborate joke making fun of people who overreact to tiny, insignificant things in movies?

Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
Oh noooo, a boat sank. I'M SO OFFENDED HURRR. I can't stand people like you.
Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
Maybe for small kids, but not so much for adults. Even my 5 year old was not that scared.
Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
I don't think a boat sinking would disturb any sane child.
Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.
Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.
Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!! *Are you kidding?*
You have GOT to be kidding me.
Shrek has less violence in it than a lot of other G-RATED films that we WOULD consider appropriate for children.
Lets take a few well-known Disney films for example:
The Little Mermaid (1989)
-Ursula dies (she's STABBED)
-2 other characters get blown up
-The entire boatside/seaside fight scene could be considered violent
Beauty and the Beast (1991)
-The Beast at first has a violent personality
-Beast/Wolf fight scene, multiple wolves are killed/knocked out, and Beast is injured
-The Mob Song repeatedly chants "Kill The Beast!!!"
-The entire Beast/Gaston fight scene: Beast is stabbed (and bleeds copious amounts of blood), Gaston falls to his death, but then again he started that violent scene by shooting Beast with an arrow.
-Speaking of shooting, what about that duck that Gaston shoots at the beginning or all the "Antlers in all of his decorating"?
Aladdin (1992)
-There are multiple references to being beheaded or dismembered (i.e. having your hand cut off)
-Iago suggests tossing Jasmine and her father off a cliff
-Aladdin DOES get tossed off a cliff, into a body of water, where he very nearly drowns
-The entire end fight scene, though somewhat softened by Genie, could be considered violent
The Lion King (1994)
-The Hyena/Young Simba sequence can be considered violent, especially when Mufasa steps in.
-Simba's father, Mufasa, DIES, after being betrayed by his own brother.
-The entire end fight scene, and the strong hint at the end that Scar gets eaten alive.
These are just a few examples, and there are many, many more. The so-called "violence" in the Shrek films is very much reminiscent of Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner - Cartoony. If your gonna chew out Shrek about blowing up balloon-frogs, then maybe you should chew out Wile E. Coyote for all the things does (or tries to do).
Your always going to run into somebody different from you. Don't judge them, that's God's job.

Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
This was the dumbest and most boring movie I have ever seen.
Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
This OP of this thread reminds me of the efforts by some during the late '70s - early '80s to have the "violent" parts of cartoons removed (ie: Bugs,Road Runner,etc.). It only goes to prove that there are those that have to find something to complain about or fault with - you can't please everybody all the time.
Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
Yeah, i know but the violence is mild and is comical, it's not suppost to be taken seriously.
Re: TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!
You are right! I am going to turn into a serial killer just to prove your point that this cartoon is way to violent! I mean honestly, it is so horrible that it has given me the want to murder random people! Thanks a lot Mike Myers!
Chill out. I watched shrek when I was about 7 years old and I don't think I am more screwed up then regular people. I am surely not as screwed up as some people I know that.. So chill out man.
Hi I'm Al Gore.

After all violent movies out there where people get killed and mutilated you're concerned with a harmless little animated fairytale parody.

Anyway, Looney Tunes violence is nothing to compared to the lewdness of todays humor. We let our kids watch the old uncut Looney Tunes, Transformers G1, Transformers -new movies, Beast Wars, Ghostbusters, Clue, Private Eyes, they LOVE them. They LOVE Song of the South, Star Wars, Cailou (can't STAND that show), and plenty of other stuff.
We do NOT let them watch iCarly, anything Ren & Stimpy-ish, The Simpsons anything showing overly bad attitudes towards one another, or any TV show that seems to have constant "in yo face" attitude". Yes, I typed "Yo" not "Your".
My 7 year old girl has even grown to love Inu Yasha (the one anime I've let her watch, and some Ranma 1/2 also).
It's not the violence we try to shield them from, it's overt bad attitudes and cursing, and lewdness we try to keep from them mostly. (Yeah, she's seen most of Revenge of the Fallen - oops). We try to keep on the disgusting liberal Disney Channel for the most part. There are a few programs we don't care for her to watch, but she's going to see things we know, we wish she didn't watch she can't watch Cartoon Network past 7:30PM. Gosh I miss Adult Swim when it startedInu Yasha, Cowboy Bebop, Cartoon Planet, Space Ghost Coast to Coast anyway (now it's all junk).
Shrek? This movie is so tounge-in-cheek, you can't take it seriously. Some one mentioned some violence in newer Disney movies, heck what about OLDER Disney movies!? Penny being nearly tortured and drowned in The Rescuers. What happens to the "bad boys" in Pinocchio? And his dad being eaten by the whale? Or the idea of the huntsman actually giving the Step Mother Snow White's heart? (it was really a rabbit heart). I actually remember being very young and seeing Bambi in the theater. My Aunt took me and was concerned about what was going to happen when I saw Bambi's dad shot. That's didn't bug me I broke down when I saw the forest being burned up! She thought it was odd of me that I didn't cry when the deer was shot, but the forest burning really made me MAD. Hunting I don't have an issue with, destroying the forests or deforestation I have a BIG issue with. Continuing on there's Elliot the dragon who was nearly impaled by the Phoney Bone-like Elixer Man forgot his name (Pete's Dragon). I mean we each consider different things "wrong" or right. It's up to the individual to "allow" what they want their kids to watch.
I'm pushing 40, and watched Looney Tunes, Transformers G1, GI Joe, original Saturday Night Live, M.P. The Holy Grail, Blazing Saddles etc. etc. and all sorts of stuff they try not to show today, for whatever political correctness feminizing way of the world and I'm not going around causing destruction or being deceptive & insane. There were more things on the air when my father was younger he watched (like Westerns) and my grandfather and neither of them turning into agents of chaos or psychos!? They are/were the most level-headed (near Vulcan in logical I might add) loving people I know, and I'm proud to be their son and grandson. I mean really you think the bird exploding is violent? I really hope this was a joke thread. Go back to your Wonder Pets and pretend you're saving the world one fake animal at a time.

Nope. I watched Shrek and all the movies and I watched Shrek when I was little and I thought it was hilarious and no, I was purely innocent. Though I admit, I thought the bird blowing up was not violent but kinda nasty and weird but funny.
