The Hitcher : Grace is pathetic
Re: Grace is pathetic
Well, evidently you and I would have pulled the trigger early on (probably even earlier than that). But you have to know that now everyone is as quick to kill as it may seem. I'm pretty sure I would have done it, quicklybut I'm not 100% sure on how I could react in a situation like that, I've never been in it.
Most people would have a hard time just shooting and I think a big thing to me would have been "Huh, the cops already think we've done these killings, they probably won't believe us with another dead body showing up, that I really did kill."

Re: Grace is pathetic
You make a valid point because you do not know how a person is going to react when the adrenaline starts to pump and course through your veins. That extra adrenaline you just might pull the trigger and kill Ryder and then face up to the situation after seeking counseling from a doctor for a while. Plus, you have to consider you might be under Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for a while with waking up in the middle of the night with cold chills of having the same nightmare over and over again. A lot to consider and then due to the stress you may look older than what you actually are.

Re: Grace is pathetic
The cops in the real life wouldn't believe for a second that she was responsible for the killings but considering that the cops in the film had less intellect than the ones in The Simpsons, that is a valid enough point.

Re: Grace is pathetic
You must not love your boyfriend than. You wouldn't be "taking a life" more so saving a life! Your BFs!
Re: Grace is pathetic
the stupid girl should of just shot herself in the face and the boyfriend and the killer go have some beers and call it a night. I think the movie be better like that.
"what are you a gay fish?"

lmao, funny but true
Re: Grace is pathetic
That would be a nice ending.
Re: Grace is pathetic
Yes it is harder to take a life, but at the end of the film she just had enough of Ryders BS and ended it all for him by killing him off.

Re: Grace is pathetic
You can't fully blame her for her b/f's death, and if you were put in the situation, you are scared, in shock, your pulse and heart is pounding, people are not all perfect under the type of stress how this guy is ready to take them both out. Her adrenalin was pumping. She may have thought she would scare the guy into leaving.
Re: Grace is pathetic
I agree she's an idiot. I wanted to slap this b*tch so many times. You can justify her stupidity all you want, but I like what John Rambo said:
"When you're pushed, killing's as easy as breathing."
"When you're pushed, killing's as easy as breathing."
Re: Grace is pathetic
Her first priority was saving her boyfriend's life.. and she knew if she shot the guy that her boyfriend would die. When he released the break she went more into panic then was too overwhelmed with the emotion to think of killing him. Whether or not one can take a life i'm sure anyone would have shot him if shooting him would save a life but what goes through one's head when losing a loved one is different.. she obviously did get into the revenge/punishment mentality when going after him in the final scene.. even if too late. Many would have chickened out even then.. no matter what they say they "would" do.

Re: Grace is pathetic
If Grace had shot the killer in the truck, the COPS WOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY SHOT HER! They all think that she shot the police officer earlier, and they'd think the hitcher was another victim of hers. She'd shoot him, the cops would shoot her, and the boyfriend still would have died.
Re: Grace is pathetic
Did you forget that she had a chance to shoot him through the bathroom door?
Re: Grace is pathetic
I don't care. She's freaking bad ass at the end.
Re: Grace is pathetic
She kinda got on my nerves at the end taking the officers gun and walking up to the police carrier truck kinda blindless. John Ryder if alive (as he was ) definitely had the technical advantage in the truck the way she approached the vehicle. Then she gets the gun taken away and the officer is now helpless with out his gun and gets a bullet right between his head
Re: Grace is pathetic
I completely agree. There were lots of BS moments that irritated me in this movie, but what got to me the most is when she though she was all bad@ss and took the cops gun to try and kill Ryder. She left the cop completely helpless and he died because of it.
Re: Grace is pathetic
Horrible actress, horrible character, horrible film.
It's an ordinary high school day. Except that it's not.

Re: Grace is pathetic
Personally, I was screaming at them to stop the car and finish him right after they kicked him out, but they didn't have the advantage of knowing the plot of the movie, so I can forgive them I guess.
Re: Grace is pathetic
Do you mean to say she should have shot him when her boyfriend was still alive? Because as Ryder said, he would've released the breaks had Grace shot him, and Jim would have died anyway. Then of course there's the cops, who would assume she had killed all those other cops and that family. I honestly think it was important that she didn't kill him just yet though. He wanted her to be like him and take some sort of pleasure out of killing. Since most people aren't wired that way, she couldn't do it, despite the fact that he was, obviously a bad person. Then of course later on there's a turning point, and she's more than capable of killing him, but not for the same reasons as he killed others (his own enjoyment), but out of vengeance.
Re: Grace is pathetic
Not everyone can just shoot somebody. Some people have never even touched a gun in their lives. Grace looked to be one of those people. She handled that gun like a child.
Also, Ryder's foot would have slipped off the pedals and the truck would have moved and killed Jim.
Think you can outrun the world? (Barbossa)

Re: Grace is pathetic
I was saying the same thing she has no excuse. Survival of the fittest "Flight or Fight" she's a runner not a shooter that's probably why. But being that that's your BF that should have been incentive enough for her to shoot him she obviously didn't love him enough b/c anyone I know family/BF/GF would have shot him. She had no excuse because if his foot came off the clutch she has feet and could have put her feet on their. The police by that time knew they weren't the killers especially since that one cop saw Jim tied to the back of the trucks. She irked my nerves this whole movie maybe cause I'm such a fighter and would rather see a woman portrayed as such in this situation than a damsel in distress b/c there's no rescue service you have to save yourself
Re: Grace is pathetic
i was thinking grace could have at least shot his hand a few times during the bathroom struggle
Re: Grace is pathetic
Agreed. And Sophia isn't that smart herself. "Grace is a strong female character" or whatever. Why, because she picks up a gun 5 times and only shoots him once during those times?

Re: Grace is pathetic
If any of you had watched the deleted/alternate scenes you would know that when Ryder broke into her hotel room while she was asleephe unloaded the handgun and put it back. There was a version of the hotel room scene on the dvd and she actually did pull the trigger to shoot himbut he had taken the bullets out of the gun before she woke up.
Re: Grace is pathetic
Wow, I wonder why they decided to remove that scene from the final movie, that definitely answered some questions for me..

Re: Grace is pathetic
That doesn't make her any less bad a character.
And I would've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids! -Count Olaf

Re: Grace is pathetic
We all say that! That we would have done this or that..but unless you've been in that situation we don't know how we'd react. I never would have given him a ride in the first place! But then that would have been a boring movie
I think no matter what happens your adrenaline to stay alive and survival instincts are to get help. They helped a man who was dying and really no one would have thought to get in that car and drive to the cops when your stranded out on the open with a psychotic man chasing you?? The rest of the events happened because they realized the cops couldnt help them and they just had to run. So maybe you can't say that right?
I know it's a movie..but just going you guys something to think about.
I think that she should have started shooting his car when they were being chased by the cops and he came up shooting them all out. I was upset that she had access to two guns and just hid. Like come on lady..shoot him or his tires.

Re: Grace is pathetic
I am surprised nobody noticed this thing & posted the proper reply here. :-
So since John revved up the truck engine & the boyfriend was already fully stretched up, shooting John would have resulted in his foot coming off the clutch & the first gear of a vehicle have enough power / muscle to move the vehicle ahead without accelerating it.. so it would have moved ahead with a jerk & then stopped, which would anyways would have hurt the boyfriend by ripping his hands or legs off.
Hence this was the primary reason why Grace was hesitant in shooting him there.
She didn't pulled the trigger in the truck at the motel , cauz it was clearly stated by John Ryder that "These clutches are touchy things, one little slip and"
"You shoot me, my foot comes off the clutch"

Re: Grace is pathetic
She could have killed him yes but John was working the clutches of the truck and shooting him would have killed her boyfriend for sure as he would have slumped and his feet could have come off the clutches. That being said you know what pissed me off in that scene. The fact that a dozen cops aim their guns at Grace and tell her to drop it, after seeing Jim tied up. Not one cop thinks hey let's try and get this guy untied before you know, he gets ripped in half. Like honestly, to me that part was stupid. But then again it's a horror movie and if people didn't do stupid things there'd be no movie at all
Re: Grace is pathetic
I agree, all the cops in this movie were effing dumb, except for maybe that one that helped them
Re: Grace is pathetic
Too hot to be pathetic I'd settle for stupid, though.
Re: Grace is pathetic
All the crap horror movies are like this. Unrealistic killings of all male characters and the unrealistic survival of one female character in the end. Pro-tip: rate it 0 and stop encouraging lazy overdone and blatantly misandric movies.
Grace is pathetic
her boyfriend's death (as well as everyone who dies afterward) could have been avoided. she waits until everyone is killed before deciding to kill himyippee!
that was truly pathetic (as was the movie).
