The Twilight Zone : Thoughts on best DVD set to buy

Thoughts on best DVD set to buy

Sorry to interrupt the marathon (but as this is one of my least favorites...Invaders) Husband has decided he must finally own a complete collection of Twilight Zone. Any thoughts on the best to get? Definitive Collection? the 5th Dimension? Another? Anyone own either of them? He wants the best quality picture possible and extras are a plus.

Thanks for any help!

Re: Thoughts on best DVD set to buy

I was wondering today myself. I bought the definitive collection today on amazon. I hope i made the right choice.

I got it at my local one six dollars cheaper. It is a prized collection.

Thanks for all of the input! Much food for thought.

Re: Thoughts on best DVD set to buy

I'd like to know why the 2016 version is roughly $45 while the older, 2006 version I have (purchased in 2010) is still almost $200 bucks?!

Anyone have both? Can anybody compare?

Re: Thoughts on best DVD set to buy

That's a great question. With a little research, it seems that the newer set has been running about $90 up until today when it dropped by half, but that is still a huge price difference. Tempted to jump on the bargain and "damn the torpedoes".
Husband is leaning toward The 5th Dimension set as it as the 80's series included.

Re: Thoughts on best DVD set to buy

As far as I know, the new set that was released a few months back has always been about $50. I can recall seeing it multiple times over the past few months as I went by the electronics section in Walmart where they had it displayed. I had kept meaning to pick it up eventually since it seemed like such a great value but always forgot as I wandered around the store. but fortunately it was given to me as a Christmas present last week and I can heartily recommend it! It's really fantastic and I've been binge watching them all ever since!

Re: Thoughts on best DVD set to buy

I've always thought The Twilight Zone one of the best tv series ever made but I put off buying this on dvd or blu ray because I wanted to make sure I got the best edition. The blu ray complete set was available for $50 so I picked it up. I thought I had seen almost all the episodes, too. I had been watching it since a kid, it was always on tv and there were marathons every year. But, of the first seven episodes, I had only seen one of them, where reader Burgess Meredith is the last man.

The picture quality in this set is incredible and worth the price for that alone. I also love the little touches, like Rod Serling talks about what's coming up on the next episode at the conclusion of the current one, there are short tv ads about other shows from that time, too. Commentaries on most episodes so far, a few have multiple ones, interviews with the actors, radio play versions and I'm sure there will be much more as I progress into the series.

Re: Thoughts on best DVD set to buy

Usually things are removed or cut out of TV shows when they go into syndication to make room for even more commercials.
For example, I have seen they remove the epilogs for All In The Family which I see on my discs of that show.

Is that the case for TZ?
Besides the plug for next week's show, have you noticed if the episodes on disc contain more than what we may see on TV?

Re: Thoughts on best DVD set to buy

I would say there are at least 2-3 minutes of show missing in each syndicated episode. One syndicated episode I recorded (The Hitchhiker) had just under 21 minutes of show, which included the opening and closing credits. The blu ray episode is just under 26 minutes.

OK thanx.

Perhaps I might check out a disc or two from my lib. to see what I could be missing.
