There was some foreshadowing in The Winds of Winter. There was Walder Frey saying to Jaime - "Here we are now, two kingslayers." Then Jaime's pov returns to King's Landing to sees the destruction from the wildfire, sees Cersei crowned and looking as mad as Mad King Aerys.
