Holes : when the warden showed up

everyone seemed to be looking at her in a funny way so my question is when i first saw it. Where they checking her out? i mean i would check out Sigourney Weaver the way she looked through the movie ;). Or were they confused that the warden was a chick? i never really got the part. Any ideas?

Possibly both, they probably hadn't seen a woman in a long time, so it'd be a shock either way.

Shock and awethe warden was a formidable presence; they were intimidated. But most of them probably knew she was a woman

I think they were just intimidated by her.

I think they were surprised she was a lady, cause it never really mentioned what gender the warden was before she made an appearance.
