Your gonna sell Sixteen Candles?
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Anybody who is dumb enough to buy into and beleive everything they watch in a movie dont have the right to their own opinions anyways.
Selling all his movies just because you dont like his views? great way to resort to childish behavior.

Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
how cheaply you selling them - i'm interested lol
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
the idea for this movie came from a book called 'The Shock Doctrine' (written by Naomi Klein). You can actually go online and see an interview between Cusack and Her.
The book is very intersting and I only found out about it because my professor is requiring us to read it.
And the fact that you are getting rid of all of his movies because of his personal viewpoints is just retarted.
I guess that means you sold all of the movies that Mel Gibson did.
unless you hate jews too.
Then you'd go out and buy all of his movies.
you can hate the artist but love the art.

Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
The idea for the movie actually came from the article she wrote, "Baghdad year zero: Pillaging Iraq in pursuit of a neocon utopia". The Shock Doctrine came out after the movie had already been filmed.
Here's a link to the article in case you're interested.

lol
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Klein is an amazingly intelligent writer, but sadly this movie is a complete stinker that misses the mark in almost every way, including as an anti-war screed.
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
I won't be going to his movies anymore and will be selling his old movies
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? You have single-handedly ruined his career. BASTARD. You heartless bastard.

that was friggin brilliant, one of the funniest posts i've read on here.well done
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Why do righties label everything that comes out as propaganda, when it's based on factual information (fiction or non-fiction) that they'd rather not have to know about or acknowledge? Granted, this is over the top satire, but the facts that it's based on are what they are: Facts. Political corruption and conflict of interest, corporations, greed

"It's not the ups and downs that make life difficult, it's the jerks." Charles Chaplin
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
So this movie is based on factual information? I don't think so, dear. It's a movie by a guy who is uneducated and plays make-believe for a living. If you gobble up everything that uneducated Hollywood actors tell you or feed you, then I suggest you hone your critical thinking skills. I go to all kinds of movies that don't validate my point of view all of the time; if they're good, they're good. Do you get that John Cusack is a Hollywood millionaire capitalist who gets his movies made and his salary paid by one of those big, greedy corporations, yet, (apparently) isn't smart enough to understand that he's a hypocrite? Did he ever make a movie protesting the Bosnian war? Or Clinton's bombing of Iraq in December of 1998? How about a fim about the 80+ people burned alive in Waco, TX - American citizens on American soil - attacked under false pretenses by the Clinton administration? Never saw a big Hollywood movie about that, much less 14 or 15 Hollywood movies. So the fact that liberals give a rip about war or death or destruction is total BS. They don't care a rip what Democrats do or whom they kill; and that makes the "propaganda" remark put forth by the original poster here more valid.
Not to mention that Hollywood always presents their point of view in the most simplistic and intellectually insulting way.I probably will not go see this one because it doesn't look like a good film.

Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Thanks for the laugh, oh flatulent one.
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
I find it funny how people will boycott this film, but not say..Black Hawk Down or Saving Private Ryan. They have a pretty damn big anti-war message. But since it has nothing to do with the middle east, why call it propaganda right?
Anyways, movies entertain. And unless you have easily offended viewpoints, you shouldn't care what stance they take, if you're confident enough in your own beliefs. And if you do have easily offended viewpoints, toughen up. I thought all you conservatives were supposed to be hardasses anyways and the liberals the passive, pansy hippies?
(Note: That last line was a joke, so don't all you reds and blues jump on me for it.)

Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
I suppose the point here is that the dissenters don't appreciate that the satire is over the top, like most satire is. From a business plan perspective, war is good for business. This movie is just taking it one huge step further and saying that corporate interests are constantly working to keep wars active in order to open up new markets and maintain wartime opportunities. But that's not really the case, right? War happens in the nation's best interest, and the profits culled from war are simply companies taking advantage of opportunities stemming from that war. After all, someone will have to profit from the destruction and subsequent reconstruction of the enemies of the American way of life, so there's no need to blame the companies like Halliburton who do.
After all, politics and business are just a separated as church and politics.

Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Satircal yes, but behind every joke lies a bit of truth. That's what is getting up the noses of McCain/Bush supporters. Most americans have no clue what is going on and think Black Hawk Down, We Were Soldiers and The Patriot are factual.
When the other side of the story is getting news pages, front headlines, media coverage, film exposure the war hungry people who depend on the continual process of war get upset. The whole strawman argument, we need war for peace, for democracy, for freedom, pre-emptive non existant WMDs is a bunch of baloney and you know it. Money makes the world go round and makes your oil filled heart burn a little longer, ask Bush/Cheney et al.

Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Wait Tsunami, you think Black Hawk Down was a pro-war film? I don't know, I find it as anti war as War Inc and I get the same message from the two - War is never prosperous for those on the front lines. BHD doesn't touch on the politics however, which I enjoy.
I should note too: You won't ever find a more realistic war film than Black Hawk Down outside of documentaries that is currently out there.

Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Just a thought: I think some might look at Black Hawk Down as pro-war in anin their mind, positive war story because it shows heroism on a battlefield. Some people see that part and the anti-war part is lost on them. I think the war in Iraq was a horrid decision, but that doesn't take away from heroic acts from men and women everyday in the Middle East. I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. Take care all.

Indeed. This movie was never meant to be taken as a serious representation of what's going on. It's absolutely making fun of the situation in Iraq.
I'm not an actor. I just play one on TV.

ITS I-R-A-Q.and YESwe're doing a great job in IRAQ..idiot.
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
But this isn't even a hollywood picture. I mean, it's thoroughly anti-commerical thanks to its extensive use of surrealism and meta-fiction. The ending is a parody of action movies that is so well done, people didn't realize that it was a joke.

Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Don't expect the mouth-breathing OP to actually read the article the film was based on. It contains too many multisyllabic words.
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
It's called satire. Look it up.
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Keep it up, OP. Your effort would certainly contribute to the rise of the Holy Empire of America. Actually, never mind, it is already there.
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
MORE Hollywood propaganda!!!!!1!!
there's MORE!?!
and you flippantly say 'Just'. in the subject title, no less! if you're the front line in this battle, i fear, its over. all is lost.
ps i'll take your copy of Better Off Dead if you still have it. :P

Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
another cry baby republican. It's a bad movie that's all.
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Hey, OP. If you're really serious with your remarks, why not burn some of those subversive books and magazines while you're at it?
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
The difference between this movie and a Michael Moore movie is that this was an INTENTIONAL satire.
I agree, though, the information in this movie is totally loaded. I have a buddie who works for Tamerlane in real life, and he said it's nothing like the way they portray it. They totally blew the situation in Turokistan way out of proportion.

I LOL'd.
It's fictional satire people.
Not all that well executed in my estimation, but it must have done something right if it got the OP and others in such a tizzy.

Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Someone should also inform poor, confused kevintbriner that John Cusak didn't write the screenplay.
Re: Just more Hollywood propaganda
Hollywood has been used as a propaganda machine from the very start. You're just whining because this film is strongly anti-Republican and anti-war, which is incredibly hypocritical and plain stupid. If you really object to the propaganda nature of Hollywood films, stop watching Hollywood films altogether.
By the way, the message of this film is far more real than anything Michael Moore ever put on celluloid. The film is just poorly executed, making it more of a barely funny slapstick parody than a succesful satire.

Don't forget to sell your Metallica, unless you're pro-torture. Get rid of your Schwarzenegger-movies, unless you're a stoner. Sell your Mel Gibson-DVDs unless you're an antisemite and no more Rosemary's Baby for you, unless you're a rapist - right?

In english it is written with a 'q' but in many other languages like, for example, spanish it is written with a 'k'. Pretty common mistake specially if english is not his/her first language.
