Classic Film : Three Guys Named Mike (1951)
Re: Three Guys Named Mike (1951)
Jane Wyman had a career long before Johnny Belinda usually as the leading lady's best but dumb friends (sometimes in blond wigs or coloured).
She actually made a few ligther parts in the early 1950s, far from her Falcon Crest and Rock Hudson co-starring vehicles persona. She even did a Hitchcock movie.
and sung on the Oscar winning song "in the cool cool cool of the evening".
Anyway I wonder who she finally choose in this movie!?!!?

Re: Three Guys Named Mike (1951)
I love Jane Wyman too but seriously "The Yearling" a "very bad film"??? Too each his own but most people consider this one of the 1940's greatest films and certainly one of the essential Jane Wyman performances. "Here Comes the Groom" is pretty good too!!! The only movie of Jane's I can recall not enjoying is "Crime By Night" but that's because it's a terrible little B movie not because of her performance.
Just watched her last night in "The Glass Menagerie", such a beautiful performance in a difficult role that many accomplished, trained actresses have stumbled in.

Hi, Maddy. I'm a huge fan of Jane Wyman - in her silly supporting roles and her Oscar nominated/winning dramas. Don't know quite why, but I really love her. Three Guys Named Mike is not my favorite of her romantic comedy films, but I did enjoy it because I enjoy her. I think in this case except for Van Johnson I just wasn't a fan of her other co-stars. But to each his own.
Here are some Wyman films in the same vein I think you might like, if you haven't already seen them.:
Here Comes the Groom with Bing Crosy
Magic Town with Jimmy Stewart
The Lady Takes a Sailor with Dennis Morgan
The Dough Girls with Ann Sheridan and Alexis Smith
Not great films, but very entertaining. And she always makes me smile.
The time of the singing of the birds has come.

Hi Spiderwort,
Thanks for the recommendations. I've only seen Magic Town, will keep an eye out for the others.
Go to bed Frank or this is going to get ugly .

I'm a major fan of Jane Wyman and I agree that Three Guys Named Mike is adorable. The work of the stewardesses in the era was fascinating.
Here's a list of 10 of my favourite Jane Wyman performances: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls000051226/
If you haven't seen some of the movies, you may be surprised at her versatility and her command of the roles.
"What seems to be trouble, Captain?"

Three Guys Named Mike (1951)
Marcy(Jane Wyman)is a newly qualified air stewardess. On her first flight she antagonises the Pilot, Mike Jamison(Howard Keel)and forgets to arrange for the food to be brought aboard the plane.(I wonder if this incident has ever actually happened in real life?)
Marcy is soon involved with Jamison and two other guys called Mike (Van Johnson and Barry Sullivan.)Which of the three men will win her heart?
This was never going to be an award winner, but is very enjoyable regardless. Romantic and funny and for me at least, contained a surprise regarding who she ended up with in the end.
I've never been a fan of Jane Wyman, but I quite like her in this.I kept thinking throughout though what Doris Day or Lucille Ball would have been like in the role.
Any other fans?
