Epic and Disaster : Your Favourite 1990s Disaster Movies

Your Favourite 1990s Disaster Movies

Please note your list can include non-disaster movies if these films include some elements of disaster (however comedy films like Mars Attacks can't be included):

Titanic (1997)
ID4 (1996) (a sci-fi movie with elements of disaster)
Volcano (1997)
Dante's Peak (1997)
Air Force One (1997) (an action movie with elements of disaster)
Lost In Space (1998) (a sci-fi movie with elements of disaster)

One of the things that struck me about all six films is that they all have wonderful music scores. Perhaps 21st century film makers could learn from these films when employing a music composer.

I would add:
Armageddon
Deep Impact

Re: Your Favourite 1990s Disaster Movies

It will be interesting to see what kind of response this thread gets as it can actually be very hard to name your favourite disaster movies, be it be 1990s ones or 1970s ones, as the genre is generally a little goofy. Always good fun, but generally goofy, with corny one liners, corny characters, etc.

I am beginning to sound like a disaster movie basher, but that is totally not true. The genre is actually my second favourite movie genre (after science-fiction) but the appeal comes from the special effects, the sense of doom, and the ones made in the 1970s had great musical scores (sometimes by John Williams).

Also, I am in my 40s, so the genre has always been around for me, however they did stop making them in the 1980s for a while.

Anyway, back to your favourites...

Twister and ID4.

Re: Your Favourite 1990s Disaster Movies

Twister (1996)! It's got it all: Comedy, tragedy, the spectacle of incredible visuals! Plus, while most disaster movies are claustrophobically contained in one small location, Twister is spread out over several counties!

ID4 (1997) is quite good too! Epic confrontation between humans and hostile E.T.s! The White House explosion is an iconic image!

Titanic (1999): Epic reenactment of the doomed ocean liner. James Cameron's Oscar for Best Director was well-deserved.
